Seemed that every time he got close to being picked for the first team he got a serious injury. IMO he would have been good enough to play at Championship level but probably never will now but if he can stay injury free, could end up playing L2.

Can't agree with that. Shilton was England's number one for the whole of his Saints career, plus most of his Derby career after he left us. He was the world's best at the time. Niemi was a great keeper but could never have been described as the world's best.
