I don't want to say we were lucky last season, but for a squad of our ability we were playing at optimum performance levels. I think Ron has to take a lot of credit for that. There were only 4 or 5 games last season where we deserved nothing. Liverpool and Spurs were playing way below their own levels on a regular basis yet still finished above us. I just don't think it's realistic to expect a repeat of last season. I think we are a mid-table side. There's not a lot to choose between ourselves and Stoke, Swansea, Newcastle, Palace etc. We could finish 8th as easily as we could 14th. To be honest last season was as good as will get whilst we operate the way we do. That's not being critical of the club and the way it's run, it's the reality of the situation. I would much prefer we go on a run in Europa this season, forget the league in terms of aiming for top 6/7/8. We looked a bit rusty again today, but once VVD arives along with the return of Bertrand and Clasie, we will look a lot more solid. Still think we should make a move for Redmond. Until we decide to take a massive gamble and splash the cash like Man City (which is unlikely) to buy our way into the top 4 then this is how it's going to be. Their summer business has been ridiculous, they don't even seem concerned by transfer fees. I think some of us expect it. Just because the Liebherr estate is worth millions or billions, Kat is not obliged to pump it all into the club. It seems to be getting to a point where things go quiet so the media decide to pick on us. It will be interesting to see how Wanyama and Mane play should they be picked. Nothing to worry about. It's just Spurs stirring. We're moaning on here about bringing in quality, they've had a massive struggle bringing in players. Another poor performance. But once Bertrand and Clasie return plus hopefully VVD, this team will be looking a lot different. I don't think we have brought in as much quality as last year, but realistically we were never going to improve on last seasons overall performance. Think this could be a tricky tie. I see the bookies have them at 9/1 to win on thursday, which indicates they are League One quality at best. Think this could be a stern test for us; we're certainly not guaranteed to win over the two legs. Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk

We are Southampton, the team that finishes 7th and doesn't lose to teams like Everton 3-0 at home. Let's all have a meltdown. **** me. 2 games in and the season is over for some. These are the sort of games we struggle in. Admitedly the defence was all over the place but we will still bring in a couple of players. I'm all in favour for going all out in the Europa league and letting Stoke, Swansea and Palace finish above us. We will lose a fair few games this season, get over it. Spot on, I think some people just expect us to constantly upgrade on players like Morgan, when there are very few players of his quality are available, hence why bigger clubs are buying them. If we were able to buy better players we'd be in the top 4, but it isn't going to happen. It's quite clear what our strategy is when it comes to buying and selling players, and I can't see that changing anytime soon. What you have to remember is that we already had a better squad than the teams below us. So inevitably they will do more in the transfer market to try and compete with us. Sure, we still need another CB, but the reason we haven't signed a load european world beaters mighty like Stoke have is because we have't needed to make too many additions. Still, if they finish above us hopefully the top 4 will go chasing their players rather than ours. I really don't think he's going to cut it. He offers very little imo, too lightweight, no pace, power or aggresion and poor in front of goal. His delivery from set pieces is ok, but that's about it. I'm really not sure what his role is. He seems like a good kid, but I think he will end up at a bottom half premier league club or maybe the Championship. I think he gets a bit of extra media exposure because he's young, English and plays for Saints, which canlead to lazy articles and people thinking he's the next big thing. Sadly, he's not. Personally I don't think JWP will cut it at this level. He's ok as back up, but doesn't really offer much to the team. There's a reason he's never linked with a move to a bigger club like a lot of our other players. Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk

Laughable to say his legs had gone in his last season with us. I think some people forgot we weren't in League 1/Championship anymore and expected him to score 20 league goals. Double figures for goals and assists is very impressive in this league. If he gets the game time at WBA he will score 10+ goals this season. Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
