He dropped Lallana, then Fonte, then he brought Lallana back in , and at one point he even dropped Lallana, Fonte and Lambert all for the same match! I appreciate that, but is it not a little inconsistent that from a football perspective, Terry is being tried on a "beyond reasonable doubt" basis while Suarez was tried on a "balance of probability" basis?

They're also wildly inconsistent. It does get at me those bloody scousers always moaning but in this instance I think they have a point. John Terry, subject to criminal charges, so the FA won't investigate. If Terry is found not guilty as it cannot be proved beyond reasonably doubt they will say that it has been dealt with by a higher power. Luis Suarez, not subject to criminal charges so the FA investigate and find him guilty on the balance of probability. Hmmmm.

I was trying to remember who made that "Strikers win you games, defenders win you championships" quote, thinking it was fairly apt for this thread and assuming it was somebody successful, Shankley perhaps, or Ferguson. Unfortunately upon searching it turns out it was John Gregory.

Glad to see a few others didn't think all the pens were "nailed on". If you had asked me during the match I would've said so of course, but having looked again in the cold light of day.... The way I sometimes try to reflect on reffing decisions after the match is think how would I feel if the teams were reversed... Lambert - I would be massively annoyed if a pen like that was given against Saints. Lallana foul - Would've accepted that one. Handball - Would be a bit ****ed off as have seen players get away with those, but also annoyed with our player for flapping his arms around in the box. Davis- Would have thought the opposition were whinging about nothing. That said, I shouted for all of them at the time and was raging that the Lambert one wasn't given... :-)

Adkins said post match that he was wary of us getting hit on the counter so we had to be a bit more conservative. Would imagine the full-back were simply doing as they were instructed so as not to leave us exposed.
