Walsall 1 - 0 Saints - Post Match Reaction
Barry the Badger replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
I consider myself to be one of the more optimistic on here, but tonight I am worried. Just starting to remind me of last season in that our form seems decent enough but every time we get an opportunity to make up ground on where we're trying to get we blow it. -
Oh I see. Pompous at all? So somebody who disagrees with you has limited footballing knowledge, including Nigel Adkins. Glad we cleared that one up. I can see the reasoning behind the argument that if you leave a couple up that's a couple less players they can send into our box, but when they're 2 down they will probably just send those players anyway. I'm not saying I think we should always bring everybody back but at that particular time in that particular game I think it was the right thing to do to defend the set piece as heavily as possible as we tried to completely shut up shop at 3-1 up.
-
I do take your point, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect better than this, and given that the commentary is placed after the match I also expect them to be able to tell our players apart.
-
Rubbish. Everybody has to start somewhere. Also, even if they couldn't find somebody good, somebody vaguely competent who can tell our players apart would be nice.
-
I think you may be underestimating how stringent copyright can be. I imagine the club will have a license to use that commentary for very specific things (ie Saintsplayer live feed), and will be allowed to use it for those purposes only.
-
It sounds like it's a commentary added afterwards, which makes me wonder why he can't check that he has the player names right before submitting it. Getting Guly and AOX muddled twice is pretty pathetic TBH.
-
But the home fans are also miles away at the Withdean and there is really very little home or away atmosphere, it's hard for them to get any going. Having been there a few times in the home end whilst at uni there, I really don't think playing there is an advantage.
-
I'm not really sure that it's an advantage. It's not like when we moved from the Dell.
-
I think you mean coming into the building.
-
As others have said. Expectations mean that at the moment things aren't very exciting, just nervous. I think that as we get closer to the end of the season the atmosphere will get better and better hopefully.
-
And what would you be saying if we had conceded from one of their corners because we left men upfield? Come on Adkins, why leave men upfield looking for another goal when we are two goals up.
-
Agree with this. Not one for trying to start songs myself but I will always join in once one starts to get going, which probably applies to the majority of people in the Northam I reckon.
-
Are you joking?

Those stats are a bit frightening. Off topic slightly but a woman at work this week told me she didn't like Matthew Le Tissier as she's religious and the fans call him 'god'. I had to explain that he doesn't actually think he is god, to the best of my knowledge. I hope she doesn't see this thread (unlikely I guess) or Adam Lallana may have one less fan.

I never really understand the theory that 17-18 yr old players get tired more easily than those in their 20s.
-
Disagree completely. I couldn't care less and find it amazing that anybody would get so excited about something so trivial.
-
That Watford game when both DMG and Wotton failed to score them was one of the most depressing games I've ever been to.

Eddie Mitchell Stirs The Pot Before Cherries Game
Barry the Badger replied to farawaysaint's topic in The Saints
Everybody keeps saying we don't care about them, but the atmosphere at the last home game against them plus the number of people who want tickets for this one shows otherwise. -
SAINTS fans - probably the hardest to please in the world
Barry the Badger replied to theyin's topic in The Saints
Perhaps I should clarify then. My expectations are that we would be comfortably top two by this point but for various reasons we are not. Still feeling positive we will do it but have to admit I put the playoff dates in my calendar last week, having previously ignored them. -

This season is a difficult one to judge. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I expected us to be comfortably top two, rather than scrabbling around with Bournemouth, Huddersfield etc. But at the same time on those 'since Adkins' league tables we are top two but the start of the season set us back a lot. So overall I am pleased with the current set up but dissapointed with our overall progress, which is a bit confusing. -
How many games can we afford to lose from now on?
Barry the Badger replied to CWD's topic in The Saints
Less than Huddersfield or Bournemouth. -
Just seemed to me that the programme makers probably approached the club for a quote and the club said "it's nothing to do with us, we celebrated it in November", and the BBC decided to use it anyway.
-
This comment alone shows how much attention you were paying to the game. Enough to make your mind up on N'Guessan but apparently not enough to notice that Lallana was on for 35 minutes before N'Guessan came off. I don't understand why people cannot see that there is a difference between a bad player, and a player who has a bad game. He had a bad game, that is all.
-
I thought his distribution to full backs yesterday was excellent but the moment of miscommunication with Fonte was a worry.
