  1. And every other club has all these expenses as well, plus agents fees, bonuses etc which is the usual line trotted out to defend our spending. Yet out of all the other clubs we are the only one who has reported a profit from transfers over the last 5 years. The profit from transfers alone would cover the cost of Staplewood, (which should have been £20m less but that's another story) Mike Ashley gets absolutely destroyed by Newcastle fans for not spending but over the last 5 years they have a £71m spend against out £46m profit from transfer. They also have a season in the championship to take into account in that period.
  2. Well done Les Reed, a marvellous signing
  3. I guess the call from Barcelona has finally come then https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3898005/southamptons-cedric-soares-lined-up-by-barcelona-for-shock-15million-transfer/
  4. The most refreshing thing about that is that up until I stopped watching at about 35 minutes in not a single person proceeded with their Name, location and how long they and been a fan, a season ticket holder or both for.
  5. When he signed it was said We'd been tracking him for 6 years. Which means this one is down to Paul Mitchell.

    Lets just remind ourselves how you felt things were going under Cortese https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?46964-For-future-transfer-activity-lets-avoid-Serie-A https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?41043-We-dont-belong-in-the-PL https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?30809-Why-we-start-the-season-so-badly https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?23072-Different-Ownership-and-Managment-same-old-summer https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?42449-Next-summer https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?23861-Brutally-honest-forget-its-me-posting-this-who-is-disappointed-in-our-transfers https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?45266-SFC-still-run-like-a-crappy-seaside-B-amp-B https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?44802-We-re-going-down https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?44576-What-an-interesting-summer-we-are-in-for https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?37211-We-dont-quot-do-quot-the-big-occasion

    Cortese

Cortese had a set of expensive cutlery which only he was allowed to use. One day a spoon went missing from it and he took a number of staff away from their jobs to search for it. Cue lots of bantz on here and twitter which included a mock up of Matt le tissier (it was around the time they fell out) holding a spoon in his hand with the words "Oi Nicola, I've got your spoon" which he (le Tiss) saw and thought was highly amusing. also other mock ups of "missing, have you seen this spoon, last seen in Cortese office" and various other similar things doing the rounds. IIRC correctly there was even a small article in the echo about the search for the missing spoon at St Marys at that time, obviously taking the p*ss. It was all very funny, at the time anyway.

As a visionary i'd say his vision was more akin to the philosophy of Franco and Mussolini. Yes we had our differences, I enjoyed spoongate and the #bantz with Le Tissier on twitter, I enjoyed the small article in the echo about Corteses private toilet after I told one of the journalist I know there about it all, it was all highly amusing. Yet this should prove to anyone that if you try and take Turkish on there is only one winner whoever you may be. The proof is there for all to see, after all this time only one of us is greeted at the Corriander Lounge with a smile and handshake and it isn't the tiny, Cuban heeled Itie.

5 years ago today since the great man left. His vision lives on though. How fitting that in the last match before the anniversary of his departure we win away at a former league champions (who copied our model) with a team containing 8 academy players, just like his vision of a premier league team with 50% home grown players for his baby. I'm sure Nicola was sitting in his Italian villa watching the match, Cuban heels up on the table, with a little smile on his face proud to see what he started come to fruition.
  10. When Raneri took over at Leicester they had just avoided the drop after a great run of results, they continued that momentum and it took them to the league title. unfortunately the momentum curve swang back the other way and went down and down, first through Ranieri, then Shakephere, so when Puel came in he had to halt the downward momentum and turn it back, which he started to do and now Leicester by taking them from a 12th placed finish in 2017 to 9th in 2018 and now 7th, so Claude has done a great job in turn the momentum curve back in Leicesters favour. Of course you can take the odd result in isolation and criticise him but by Hesingbergs own momentum curve matrix Puel has and is doing a great job #momentumcurve
  11. Yes Hes been too busy updating facebook every 30 seconds in the build, during the game and since it finished to post on here. (no exaggeration)
  12. His first job should be to get the Kruger to get a move on with the Five Pledges, it's been nearly a year they have been on his desk FFS.
  13. Well we rarely win at home and our defence has been a mess but now ralph is here we've got a team that likes to press Ralph said come on over come and play for me You're my favourite right back Valery Valery You're favourite right back valery
  14. He's certainly on the right lines getting a regular game. Looks like we are keeping our powder dry and waiting for a better deal though.
  15. I never thought it could get worse than hat K*nt and the mars bar on head incident, then last night this happened.
  16. Another dull defensive goalless performance, thought this all ended when Eric Black/Puel/Pellegrino/Les Reed left
  17. remains one of the best ever threads in mongboard history. 2.50am on New Years Day. Whatever happened to Liquidshokk?
  18. :-( that's really sad, that was a great shop back in the day. I bought my first pair of football boots from there, some Patrick ones, got several other pairs, some Asics, Arrow and Quaser which were decent brands back in the 80's and early 90s, plus of course some Puma Kings which were the brand to have in about 91-95. Also got a fair bit of sports gear from there. Legendary Southampton shop and part of our heritage as a city.
  19. I’ve heard this argument used before and whilst it’s a valid point it should also be remembered every other club has to pay these things as well, yet no other club has made such a huge income from transfers in the last 5 years. People that use loyalty bonuses and signing on fees to defend the club seem to forget that we aren’t the only club in the world who pay these things, so do everyone else. My concern is that we have an astronomical wage bill for players who shouldn’t be or aren’t anywhere near the first team. Forster, Stephens, Hoedt, Long, To name 4 are doing near on £250k a week In wages and have cost us more points than they’ve won this season. We are told we are a well run club and our corporate governance has never been better yet we’re probably paying £20m a year in wages to players who shouldn’t be anywhere near a premier league football club.
  20. This will probably make Nordic saints cut his wrists or at least reduce him to teams but the Morroccan Norwegian said saints had been tracking his for 6 years before he signed. Which means only one thing, he was discovered by Paul "Black box" Mitchell. Another disasterous signing of his to add to the list which includes amongst others Forren, Mayuka, Ramirez & Osvaldo.
  21. Great lad and one of those players everyone wants to do well. Met him a couple of times and he is a really decent bloke. Personally I don't think he was up to it as a premier league player which is a shame but that said I think we should have kept him in our first season back, he would have been a decent option to bring on for 15 minutes if we needed a goal and to be blunt he would have contributed an awful lot more than Mayuka did, whose only memorable moment was being brought down to win a penalty in the home game v Villa when we were already 3-1 up, other than that he might as well never have played for us.
  22. 13 assists I think it was. He was a competent championship player and perfect for our system in the championship which relied on full backs being able to put quality balls into the area. Frazer Richardson also got double figures for assists that season. Incredible that a key player in one of our most memorable seasons is labelled one of the worst defenders of all time. Then again one of them is someone who once accused me of being racist because I didn’t agree with him that Tanadari lee wouldn’t ever be a premier league star, I don’t think he’s ever recovered from that embarrassing moment.
  23. Okay so I’m not a lover of Vlog or all that nonsense but after the grief you go that week decided to watch this all the way through. What I will say is you do talk a bit of sense on your video and see the game is a fair and reasonable manner. I watched it on telly and agree with many of your comment so credit where it’s due. However I really don’t see why anyone would watch it. It all seems totally pointless to watch a lad in his kid twenties video himself giving commentary on a few incidents during the game. Really don’t see what the point of it all is and why people would sit through 10 minutes of that when they can see the goals on other social media outlets. As I say I think you have half a clue about what’s Going on on the pitch which is more than can be said for 80% of the others in the ground but what you’re doing is pointless however if it makes you happy then who are we to judge.
  24. I don’t get why people think we look knackered. You can see what he’s doing, get us to play a solid defensive shape, the problem is Targett and Valery are no good going forward to give us the width we need and Redmond and Ings are getting no change from a very physical and quick back 4 who aren’t being stretched by attacking full backs. We look solid but we don’t have the pace or width going forward for the reasons stated above.
  25. Yep, Reed had heard of Ralphs availability and wanted to speak to him and a couple of others before making the decision but the board felt they owed it to Hughes to give him the deal full time. That was the final straw in the breakdown between Reed and the board and a parting of ways was agreed. Clearly the board have now realised the error of their ways and done what Les wanted to do in the summer and brought Ralph in. Interesting to note many of Reeds signings over the past few seasons have started to deliver too. Still our loss is the FAs gain. Not that any on here would believe it after all the mongboard myth that's peddled out is that everything that went wrong was because of Reed and all that went right was despite of him.
