He's the best striker at the club when fit, no doubt. But he'll probably be back in the treatment room soon.

The referee can't get involved with telling a team to give the ball back to their opponents from a drop ball. He's not allowed to say 'you kick it back to them' cos it's not up to him. However, I think it backfired on Oldham cos it got the crowd fired up, the team fired up and on the way to victory (at a time when if i remember correctly, we were at 1-1). I do agree though that it was a terrible performance. Can't comment on the penalty cos I didn't get a good enough view but he seemed determined for Oldham to get an equaliser at the end!!

i think one bloke in a cap towards the back was shouting abuse at the team and a bloke 2 rows in front took offence and told him to shut it. they had a few verbals and then 5 mins later it kicked off. i dunno what happened the second time to start it off again but thats what i saw. pathetic if you ask me.

Hampshire End of Season report a personal view
georgeismyname replied to Weston Saint's topic in General Sports
Okay, the side i would select next season would be: Adams Carberry Lumb McKenzie Vince Ervine Pothas + Cork * Ali Tahir Jones/Tomlinson Dawson, Benham, Mascarenhas, Balcombe, Griffiths, Briggs and probably a few others in reserve. If we stay injury-free, I'm sure we'll have a successful season with a trophy or two thrown into the bargain! -
bit off topic but did anyone manage to record the tribute video for St. Markus that they played at the Orient game? or know where it is online? i'd like to see it again

Kelvin - 7 - Only one save to make but did well to hold onto it. Played one fantastic pass to Harding from a goal kick to nearly set up a goal. Harding - 7 - Usual solid, effective self. Mostly dealt with their big right winger in the air, easing him under it most of the time. Should've done better with his early chance. Seaborne - 8 -Lost out in the air a couple of times but some great passes along the deck from defence. Have been very impressed with him in the last few games after an indifferent start when he joined last season. Fonte - 8 - Very good as usual. Like how he is confident to dribble the ball out through the middle and to wait for the right pass. Butterfield - 8 - Ditto Fonte and Harding - solid as usual. Fantastic cross for Rickie's goal. Lallana - 8 - Created some great stuff with his trickery to get crosses in. Well taken goal. Hammond - 9 - Real captain's performance. Always seemed to be available and wanting the ball and passed pretty well when he did get it. Chaplow - 7 - Didn't really notice him too much to be honest. Passing seemed good when he did get it though. Missed a sitter near the end. Schneiderlin back next week please. Puncheon - 7 - One of his best games for us in a long time. Starting to look like the player he was when he first joined us last season. Hope it continues. Guly - 9.5 MOTM - Fantastic. Some of his flicks and passing and running was sublime. Comfortable on the ball, quick, determined to win the ball back, ran himself into the ground. Like Lallana is a creative spark to help us unlock stubborn defences. Fantastic, hope he can keep this up and then we can sign him in January. Lambert - 9 - Best game in a long time. Well-taken goal, looked 100% better than last week with some fantastic control, holding up and link-up play. Overall - 9 - A joy to watch. Long may it continue!!

What was with the tracksuit top/suit combo?

-------------------------------------------Davis---------------------------------------------- Butterfield---------------------Fonte--------------------Martin-------------------------Harding Guly--------------------------Hammond----------------Schneiderlin---------------------Lallana -------------------------------Lambert----------------Barnard-------------------------------- Subs: Bialkowski, Seaborne, Jaidi, Puncheon, Chamberlain, Dickson, Holmes, Apparently Lallana is fit to play 60 mins so would start with him. Still trust Fonte & Martin over Seaborne and Jaidi. Need some pace at the back. See what Guly can do from the start as well COYR!!

+1. would love to go after the experience of yesterday + to keep to my every away game record haha. however, if you try to buy tickets on our OS, it says its sold out. then again, we SHOULD get an additional 700 if that is the case. surely they'd give us them now? they better bloody do cos i'll be gutted if i cant get a ticket.

got back at about ten last night. great day out, well worth the £100 odd quid and many hours on the coach good performance all-round really. defence looked solid. especially impressed with Seaborne over the last couple of games. seems to be finding his feet in a saints shirt. not so impressed with Jaidi (unlike some other posters) and am worried everytime he gets the ball. looked dangerous going forward. solid midfield. great work to win the ball back when lost from all who played. good style of play, on the floor, playing it around with a little more pace than before. great ball-retention after having taken the lead (makes a change!). thought barney and kelvin were the two outstanding players. barney for his energy with and without the ball and of course his goal. kelvin for his 2 or 3 fantastic saves. the last one (last touch of the game) was probably the best save i've ever seen and i would say it was world-class without a doubt. lallana's surprise comeback also a huge positive, as well as the fact that we kept a clean sheet without Fonte. Finally - OUTSTANDING support from all that made the trip. made it a fantastic day out with the atmosphere we made, especially at the end. put the booing wednesday fans (who i thought were a disgrace) to shame. Also seems that Adkins has got the team really fired up judging by the amount of body-on-the-line blocks and tackles and the reaction at the end. was fantastic to see how much it meant to the players (especially Deano) with their reaction when the final whistle blew and they turned towards the fans (as well as the reaction with Adkins when he came onto the pitch). seems a real togetherness again. things are looking up :D

totally agree with most of the stuff said here about the players. they have no fight, no passion, no will to win. some of them seem like they don't even want to be there. that should definitely not be the case given that they're supposed professionals who are paid fortunes every week. i wouldn't be so angry if they were crap players but they're not. when they give 100% and they're on form, they're amongst the best in the league. put a shirt on any one of us fans and we'd be out there giving everything we've got for our club unlike most of them at the moment. they should ALL be giving 100%, 100% of the time that they're on that pitch wearing OUR SHIRT. and its not just the trying. it seems they're afraid. they seem afraid to tackle, afraid to run with the ball and most importantly - AFRAID TO SHOOT!! instead, they just hoof it down the channels, hoping that someone will somehow do something with it further up the field. if we're gonna have any chance of promotion, we need a new manager in sharpish to give them a kick up the arse, motivate them, make them want to play for the shirt, the club and the fans. rant over COYR

I think we should rename the Stadium: "The Markus Liebherr St. Mary's Stadium" and also have a statue of the great man next to Ted's
-
I spoke to Morgan and Rickie on Monday at the Eastleigh game. Morgan said he'd be back in training the next day (Tuesday) and Rickie said he'd 'hopefully' be ok for Saturday.

as only one of the younger fans - mine are: -being on holiday and getting the text through that we were relegated from the prem in 2005 -Alan Ball's day against southend -when we lost on pens in the play-off semi -walking on the SMS pitch for the first time when celebrating staying up in a division we didn't want to be in in the first place in 2008 -realising the mess we were in halfway through the 2008/09 season -the massive support for the players and staff who came to applaud us at forest away in 2008/09 -the 'we will never die!' poster at forest away -walking out of the City Ground, Notts Forest after seeing my beloved club play for the final time (i thought) and a forest fan on the upper tier saying 'come straight back up' as we were applauded out by the forest fans -losing to the skates this season and looking my mate in the eye as we met outside -watching the massive Saints banner being flown at Wembley as 53,000 fans made a sea of red & white and a hell of a lot of noise and Kings & Queens by 30 Second to Mars being played -the whole 53,000 standing up and singing 'All Southampton' just after we went 4-0 up -watching Kelvin and Deano lifting the first Saints trophy in my lifetime
