  1. http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/sep/19/golden-goal-matt-le-tissier-southampton-newcastle Fantastic in depth analysis about why he did what he did at each stage, plus a change to see the video of the goal itself. Reading it takes me back to being freezing cold under the East stand, being totally dejected as Paul Moody warmed up on the opposite touchline.
  2. Comfortable all afternoon. Great strike by Morgan and total football all round. finishing the game with 3 centre halves and 4 central midfielders. All the Muppets booing Pelle at the WBA game, you know nothing about football.
  3. Thanks for putting this up, I had forgotten to donate. Is it easy for any of you twitter users to get this trending ??
  4. I've given up with the England team. Roy's statement that fans need to get used to the squad being full of bench warmers for the big 6 is madness. Will AL and Ricky become better players by sitting in the stands watching Ballotelli and Couthino every week? There needs to be a minimum percentage of game time that players have to reach before they are selected, for the Full team and for the U21's as well. The U21's is full of Spurs and United players that do well to get of the bench in a league cup match. Some Journo's have been saying that the Squad should evolve from the U21's but many of these players are not first team players for there clubs by the time they turn 22. You could put out an England team excluding the big 6 players that would give last nights team a run for their money. Of the top of my head Forster Clyne Davies Bertrand Cork Huddlestone Shelvey Dyer JRod Routelidge Give that a go next time Roy.
  5. I think Hull have done well out of us. If he gets a run in the side Gaston could contribute as many goals for Hull ( including assists) as Long does for us. But at least Long will get better stats in the more crucial "running around a lot" category.
  6. Great performance all round. Can't remember a 2 half like that away from home. Everyone put in a shift but Morgan was superb.
  7. Cork , Davis and JWP don't have the ability to switch play like Morgan. All of them are good at moving it 10 to 20 yards but the time it takes to make 2 20 yards passes gives defences much more time to regroup. Sunderland away in the cup was a good illustration of how the tempo drops when Morgan isn't playing. Added to that Morgan has scored at least as many goals as all three of them put together over the past two seasons. And Morgan is a much better tackler. George Thorne at WBA( Derby on loan last year) is a much better Morgan replacement than anyone we have on our books at the moment.
  8. We need a right footed Tadic. JWP/Davis and Cork are not wide men.
  9. He does sort of have a point though. Replace Steve Davis with Gareth Bale and you would add another 15 goals to thee side, plus more assists. Walcott for Osvaldo and Ox on the bench. Boruc Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw Schniederlin Wanyama Bale Llallana Rodriguez Lambert Subs Davies, Chambers, Cork, Ox , Walcott, Davis Plus JWP, Yoshida Ramirez Would have been good enough to finish above Spurs and Manu last year, perhaps even higher.
  10. Now Bertrand has signed, it looks like left back is covered, so maybe we are looking at a CB/RB instead ? The only one I can think of is Micah Richards. Any others that you can think of ?
  11. Mark Hughes and David Speedie up front.
  12. That's just 4 old twitter rumours wrapped up together.
  13. There is a big advantage for Jay signing a new contract now, he may never recover from his injury, some don't. If he signs now, at least he sets up his pension. If he does make a full recovery, then a bigger club will come back for him anyway.
  14. I think Liverpool were linked with him last summer as well, so if he goes there I prefer to think of it as Liverpool paying us £12M ( £20M minus the £8M we paid) for taking him on loan for the season.
  15. After watching the French game, can I add Valbeunna to the list. Fantastic crosser of the ball.
  16. Great idea, as the Europa league is such a money bit, replace it with a straight knock out competition, for all top division teams not in the Champions League. Not to the TV companies liking maybe, but lots of fun for the supporters. As for the big name clubs, Bayern versus Arsenal gets less exciting if it happens every season. I wont miss it when it goes onto BT Sport at the end of the Season.
  17. The latest rumours have Grenier and Morgan signing for the Arse. As Morgan only got in the French squad because of Greniers injury, would it makes sense to compete for a place with him at club level too? All the latest quotes echo what he has said before, that he would like to play for a CL team, but will not force a move. Lets hope he keeps to this.
  18. Good luck Ads when you try a one-two with Sturridge next year. I think he is in fir a bit if a shock.
  19. England will never improve until the management and the media learn that there is more to the game than running at 100 mph, preferably with the ball. Wingers who are fast, but with no end product are preferred to more skilful, slower alternatives ( Lennon, Sterling, Townsend v Le Tissier, Llallana ) . Crucially England always go for a central midfield that gets up and down the park, rather than include a proper defensive midfielder, unlike any other country at the world cup. Saints are very lucky to have 3 good defensive midfielders in Cork, Morgan and Big Vic, but they still get criticised in many quarters for passing sideways. I would much prefer a proper DM such as Cork or Barry in the side than playing Gerrard there, just because he is Captain and so has to play. Comparing Gerrard to Pirlo is nonsense, as Italy play Pirlo in front of their DM's not as the main shield for their defence.
  20. Don't think we have peaked and I don't believe the gap into the next level is as huge as some might think. Had we won both games against Spurs, Yesterdays game would have seen the winner end up in 6th place and with European place. Even if some players leave, we still have very good foundations to build on.
  21. Great first half, Davis should have put us 2 up from Ad's cross. Can't say too much about the 2nd half as the stream went. Shaw and AL of to Brazil I think. Now watch the press sell the team off !
  22. Chapeau Bearsy!
  23. As heard first on Guardian Football Weekly " Giggs is good at playing away, relatively speaking"
  24. Kevin Bond curled one into the top corner past John Burridge in a 4.1 win over Arsenal. Most people just remember the Shearer hat-trick on his full debut .
  25. If Utd sign Lallana Moyes wants sacking. They already have Mata, Fellani and Rooney playing in the same space, and now they want Ads to run in there as well! Ads is the last player Utd need. There was another press story last week about him going to Arsenal. Both clubs need Cork, Morgan or Vic a lot more than they need Lallana.
