  1. As a club we are remarkably lucky to have had Le Tissier and Beattie formerly and now Rickie Lambert as our main penalty takers. I am, I believe correct to say that between them they have only ever missed one penalty between them for Saints.[Matts being saved by Mark Crossley]. With the first two players and now Rickie,[dare I say it],it is almost certainly going to be a definate goal every time a penalty is awarded. I doubt that there are many clubs over the past 20 or so years who have a better record. [ I do remember the Watford home game in 2007,when both Mcgoldrick and Wotton both missed from the spot in the first twenty minutes, and I dare say we have missed a few more],but how lucky have we been with these 3 guys and their all round goal scoring as well.
  2. Firstly the last half hour was as well as we have played all season, even if they had only 10 men. [swearing at a referee is not exactly setting an example, especially if you are the assistant manager]. Regarding the penalties and penalty shouts,I am too far away to be able to comment on the shouts at The Northam End. Second half and sat to the right of the goal from behind. The first penalty foul was outside the box,the second penalty was a blatant trip, the Dean Hammond foul could have gone either way and finally Rickie was stopped even getting off the ground, and that was an absolute stonewall penalty. Anyway Saints well done for putting Brighton in their place, with a terrific seecond half performance and as for the totally ungracious Poyet saying he did not care about the last half hour[because of the penalty and sending off] and sticking up for Tarrico, that really says every thing you need to know about the man as a manager.
  3. I was there,as I saw it both sides were intent on not losing. You can understand Brighton fans being disappointed though for getting that close to promotion.
  4. Good luck with promotion to the championship,if Jordan Rhodes keeps fit and Lee Novak scores his share with your defence you should be okay.[ I went to the old Leeds Road, with a mate who was a Town fan],for the first 2 games of the 1970/71 season]. You had Frank Worthington and a few more decent players that season, but were still unfortunately relegated.
  5. This forum gets more like a kindergarten every day. We are all entitled to our opinions, but why some are expressed in such a childish way,god only knows. Personally on the whole I think NC is doing a great job.[i have a mate who is better qualified to know, who disagrees with me totally]. Finally, thank you Saint Garrett, for your original post.
  6. Lee Tomlin is their best player, young and he scores goals. Now he is worth a punt. [was he at West Ham as a youngster].
  7. Does the standard he is now playing say it all really.
  8. Johnny Howson was very complimentary, but why some of you on here, want to bring Poyet into this post god only knows, yet again.
  9. For me,we are playing the best football since the 1979/1980 season, when I believe we scored something like 50 home league goals in the season.
  10. Eric Martin is worth far more than an honourable mention,he was a magnificent goalkeeper, lets not forget the defence he played behind for many of his performances were far from the best in the clubs history. One thing that can be said is that the likes of Webb,Kirkup,Mcgrath,Walker,Hollywood and Gabriel were a great bunch of characters. FWIW I think that Niemi is the best I have seen,Shilton was well past his best when we signed him.[When I saw him at The Dell in 1969 for Leicester as an 18 year old,now that is when he was really something special.
  11. We are a better footballing side, but they will be so up for this game, and lets not forget Poyets first game in charge when they won here. Anything but a gimme, unless we are one hundred percent on our game.
  12. Sounds like we had to win the game twice. However to score 4 away from home and lead the table by 5 points going into the international break is absolutely magnificent.
  13. Hollaway is a character.and they are very sadly in short supply in the current game. The game against Blackpool in 5 weeks time could be an absolute cracker,as a manager,he always sends his team out to attack.
  14. He does things most players in the championship can onlydream of doing, and as Chris said in his article,he did very little at Reading and then laid on an absolutely brilliant pass for De Ridders goal. A big,big fan myself.
  15. The club is in the best stste it has been in for years, and there are still total idiots on here, who do nothing but pick faults in the club,NC,even NA and some of the players. Worst of all, some even pick nasty and personal arguments with their fellow Saints fans, this is absolutely unbelievable.
  16. We won,at the end of the season these 3 points could be very important.[i did not particularly enjoy the game, but in general the football we have seen at St Marys this season, has been magnificent].
  17. NA and the team will take one game at a time,no more no less. The way we are playing at the moment we need fear any team, however every game is a potential banana skin, starting with tonight,so there is no point looking too far ahead.
  18. As second top championship scorers behind us,they have to be taken very seriously. However saying that defensively they can be suspect,so this could be an absolute cracker.
  19. Can, I just explain that I was not advocating that we sign Jason Steele to replace Kelvin. I think he could be the one for the longer term and to replace Bart, who has unfortunately never been the same since his injury a few years back. It is unlikely Boro will let him go,because they rate him very highly.
  20. Would these two,not be worth a serious punt in January? Emnes is lightening quick, extremely skilful, and by his record this season, definately knows where the goal is . As for Steele, what a prospect,3 of the saves he made in the second half were absolutely breath taking.[The save from Rickies sensational volley at the end was out of the very top drawer].
  21. With the players all having the mindset they do and NA not under estimating any of the opposition,I do not think the club as a whole will under estimate any of the teams in this league. All games are potential banana skins, but the way we are playing we need not fear anyone[ in this league.]
  22. Another terrific win against a side who had before today conceded only 3 goals away from home. [Rickies magnificent volley, and Jason Steeles equally magnificent save were as good as it gets.] Like everyone to a man on the forum has already said,Richard Chaplow, was absolutely everywhere and was the man of the match by a country mile. I also think on his first half showing, that Guly should play up front with Rickie,he definately has the skill and touch to play there.
  23. Kenny, any chance that you can get a ticket for Alan, Andy
  24. If we win saturday, this result will be forgotten, but as Duncan alluded to,the 2,000 who travelled up ,may see this slightly differently.
  25. Davis,by a whisker from Chaplow.
