Guardian blog article on last night and the wider implications
JRM replied to Minty's topic in The Saints
wrong. it was the straw that broke the camels back, it is bad enough when you know you are being fleeced to watch the club you love, but when the ticket prices are going up to re-pay a loan taken out by an American millionaire to buy the Manchester United brand many new that was the final straw. these are not your United fans who live in a cul-de-sac in Surrey and follow them for the glory, they are mainly Mancunians who were born into the United supporting families. just as with Saints, a big increase in ticket prices next year could be the final straw, on the one hand you have fans saying don't worry, we are being backed by financial clout, then you realise it is you putting more of your hard earned cash over the counter helping to pay for Adkins pay off and Cortese's £1.2M a year and think hang on, what the f*ck am i doing. anyone remember the old lady handing over £500 when we were about to go into admin? with Bradley Wright-Phillips still picking up £8k per week? that was nearly the end for me, when you realise football is rotten to the core with greed. -
i think that is the attitude of most fans i know, problem is, slowly but surely, it does grind you down.

Guardian blog article on last night and the wider implications
JRM replied to Minty's topic in The Saints
For the benefit of people like Frank and Dibden - who states travel as the biggest factor for not going, have you got a network railcard?) the loyal fans who were there week in week out in relegation championship season and league one are slowing saying enough is enough, the exploitation of the fans financially has been an on-going thing over many years, coupled with the attempt to santise modern day football grounds many have just had enough. i give you a case study to go away and research- FC United of Manchester. Despite all the trophies and success they just weren't enjoying supporting a "global brand" anymore, one that had completely lost touch with its roots and had shown complete dis-regard to the fans who had been here all along. the message from the club was loud and clear, your loyalty means nothing to us, pay up or stop coming, we have a queue of tourists waiting to buy some tickets to experience the "theatre of dreams" and so they did, they stopped going, but many are now enjoying their football so much more at affordable prices, real football and real fans. No more worship to the great god of Sky Sports and the champions league. love the quote Turkish put up earlier from the great Bobby Robson. he got it. -
it is a dictatorship and an attempt to censor views that wouldn't look out of place in North Korea. the best thing is it is another step towards the media understanding what an unstable nutcase cortese is , unable to listen to criticism and insecure enough to give out such orders. it's a shame the parents of the 12 year old hadn't stood up to the stewards and called their bluff , would have been interesting viewing for sky subscribers seeing a child marched out for saying thank you to Adkins. shame on cortese.

some lovely scripts written for the players there by a PR guru, in fact i think Fonte was reading off an auto-que. shows the club have been knocked by the fans reaction such as the 94% of 10,500 voters who disagreed with the decision and are going all out to get them onside.
-
it seems clear to me that fans want to make their voices heard and will sing Adkins name , 94% out of 10500 who voted on echo website disagreed with cortese decision , however most don't like the idea of the hankies as it just isn't a good thing to do. you'd look a bit of a plonker waiving a hanky towards directors box , far better to have a vocal approach. one Nigel adkins

Henry Winter's article is very good but makes one crucial mistake comparing Cortese to Abramovich , Cortese isn't a rich benefactor he is just going at spending other people's money , first the Liebherrs and now the large loan from the British Virgin Islands , that money will be paid back from our ticket money , all Cortese does it take a large salary OUT of the club and put his wife's extravagance on club account through expenses.
-
yeah ok then Mr Cortese, we'll see on monday, when he looks our from his warm seat and hears the fans singing Adkins name from the real man of southampton, Ted Bates, he'd love to knock that statue down if he could.
-
i'll be protesting before the game, ted bates statue, 7.45pm. during the game sing one Nigel Adkins non-stop. let that c*nt cortese know what we think of his decision.

the U21 game v Sweden in a couple of weeks is due to be played at Walsall wonder what their pitch is like. wouldn't surprise me if it was off due to a frozen pitch with the weather we've got forecast for the next few weeks .
-
how many of those people are parting with the full adult price though ? trying to get in with cheaper tickets is fair game. I think it is possible to still attend as a loyal fan but voice your displeasure as much as possible.
-
bring back terraces with safe standing , everyone would be happy then , I encourage you to write to your .mp requesting they support the motion bad write to the club asking them to back it. over 20 clubs have already come out in support of it , I think Villa may be one of them.
-
very very much looking forward to this one , will be my 78th ground out of the 92, top price as well , just shows it pick away games wisely the premier league is actually cheaper than the championship , £25 at Arsenal , £15 at west brom and I think it will be £20 at Newcastle as well. no rush to get tickets for this as we can have over 5000 , my guess is we won't take more than 2000 with man utd just a few days earlier . massive relegation 6 pointer.

there is some absolute rubbish on this thread , writing off Villa as an "awful team" who we should beat comfortably if we "play as we can". do people need reminding that Villa are currently above us in the league and the team you are laughing at have got further in the league and FA Cup than we have. They are clearly inconsistent and their bad days are very bad , but they have had excellent results away at Liverpool and Norwich and drew with Arsenal just like we did. Villa have an attacking threat with pace that will target our weaknesses of a shaky defence without fonte and whichever dodgy keeper we decide to play. I really hope our game v them will be like QPR but equally will not be surprised by a defeat. if villa confidence is down from last night's defeat what will ours be like after a 5-1 home thrashing ? looking forward to the game .

had a look on Newcastle's website and noticed it is only £20 for Reading fans in a couple of weeks , 1600 allocation and doesn't appear to be special one off price, so hopefully the same for us. if saints away coaches do a deal £30 or under I might just be tempted to head up there for this one.

remember we are playing in white on satuday as well. there are still quite a few elsewhere, below summary shows how many are available in each block still, a total of 3,579. Blocks both sides of the chapel corners are virtually empty. surpried block 3 is so empty, would have thought more of the Northam would have moved over there. 1 0 2 3 3 243 4 41 5 10 6 1 7 0 8 0 9 11 10 32 11 124 12 229 13 304 14 258 (out of 298) 15 346 16 59 17 206 18 171 19 254 20 139 21 63 22 142 23 130 24 97 25 183 26 151 27 32 28 31 29 18 30 15 31 1 32 28 33 28 34 39 35 76 36 74 37 35 38 5 39 0 40 0 41 0

they sold a few yesterday then but you need to add all the unsold corporate areas to that as well. I reckon we'll have about 28,000 -29,000 there with a decent walk up.
-
my mate got tickets for this yesterday lunchtime and was there are still quite a few left so no problems for non-season ticket holders who want to go. I reckon we'll have about 2500 there
-
just had a look online, there are thousands of unsold seats still, about 4700 in the saints section which is quite a lot considering block 42 and most of 41 have had to move. Chelsea sold out their 4500 quickly so won't be surprised if there are a few in the home end as well.
-
a few have already done that , manchester central travelodge was £19 for a twin room and cheap train deals were available. I reckon we'll just about sell out united to daytrippers and have 2000 at Wigan due to it being cheap tickets and we've never played there. lots of us aiming to get in the 92 club very much looking forward to that one. man united away will be terrible. defeat with no atmosphere probably like Liverpool was .
-
I won't be going to Man Utd . can't wait for Wigan away , it will be £20 on a Saturday with 5000 away end massive relegation battle. hope we take loads up there for that.

Newcastle (A) Game To Move To The Sunday. Maybe Liverpool Too.
JRM replied to View From The Top's topic in The Saints
good news that , will be tough for them playing in Ukraine just 3 days before us. hopefully they pick up a few knocks then have a 4 hour flight back , hope it is tight from 1st leg so they play their strongest team. still undecided about making journey up there on a Sunday , unfortunately having sunderland away on a Sunday as well two trips tough to do. -
if there are empty seats I might be tempted to move to neutral section myself mate , will bring back memories of Europa league 1st qualifying round v that faroe islands team ! I reckon we'll come close to filling our bit and have over 3k in total. can you see what availability is like in Neutral stand ?
-
europa league draw today so we'll find out who Newcastle are playing Thursday before our game. hopefully somewhere in Russia

have you noticed they never give any actual figures ? just spin it to sound good. you never know though there are probably thousands of japanese fans wearing it over in Tokyo they've been snapping it up since we launched our jap twitter account
