Yes - he was linked as a left back. Don't think we'd need him for this but the article says also plays as a CB.

Had not heard of him until he was mentioned on here a day or so ago. The initial write up sounded promising but he doesn't look too clever in the opening of this clip. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/scotland/38394301

Yes, but not even we do this mid-season, or at least haven't to date.

If Nice are currently top of their league why would they start to dismantle their team at this stage of the season ? Unless they are in financial turmoil, or the player throws a strop and sulks to leave of course.

Some perhaps think it was a stitch up, see Lets B Avenues's post after mine. I'd forgotten the significance of the BHA last match at The Dell in connection with the rivalry. A very friendly affair between the fans. The Archers Road end gave them a chorus of "you're just a town full of faggots..", which was taken in good spirit, before both sets of fans joined in for a "if you all hate Pompey.." chant, which I think BHA started. After the match both sets of fans mingled on the pitch together without any hint of bother.

I expect Everton will be lurking with their Arab money, and Koeman will want to be seen to spend it. That would be more palatable, and if he went to Benfica then I wouldn't begrudge him the move. Just very strange that a grown bloke who seemed to have his feet on the ground, and seemed content with things at SFC can have his head easily turned by his international success and a new agent.

Did you think it was a carve up then ?

As Colinjb says the Brighton fans( or at least some of them) are more embittered towards Saints than the other way round. As well as the recent rivalry dating back to L1, for fans with a longer memory some of it dates back to 1978 when we were both going for promotion to the old First Division. Last game of the season Saints played Spurs at The Dell, and drew 0-0 for both to go up. Had we beaten Spurs, Brighton would have taken the third place (no play offs in those days). Some Brighton fans believed it was a stitch up, and that we purposely played out the draw. Personally I think thats b0ll0cks,having been at the game I recall us hitting the post so I don't see it as a team not looking to win it.

And next week I'll even be willing on Nivea to knock a few past the dugout pioneers... Lose the next couple and 'the bluenoses' - another fine example of scouse wit at it's best - will not be happy with Ronald MacDonald

That was last season's Jose Fonte before Euro 2016 and a new agent got inside his head.

Added to which, if you believe all that you read, it isn't Puel's job to focus on recruitment as this rests with Les and his team of soccer boffins monitoring the black box. I'm sure Puel has an input, but the prime mover in the bringing 'em in is Reed.

A copy of which is in my attic.

Long's traditional ratio, although he has stretched it to a few more this year.

In the summer we were linked in a couple of articles with Gabbiadini at Napoli. Nothing came of it, and most likely it was either idle speculation or agent hyping interest. I think Everton were offering 20m, but he preferred to stay. Saw an article a week or so ago, the likely price has fallen to 14m, but largely because he's had a bit of a barren spell for Napoli. So there's a possibility that even if a player is affordable the likelihood is he's low on confidence, and out of form. (Perhaps similar to the Berahino issue).

Do you think it might be better received by supporters of Liverpool, Utd, or another club then ?

Dreadful, seems like a self inflicted humiliation. My Way - Frank Sinatra. I was expecting Long to begin with the original lyrics, which would have been more fitting after the last two performances: " And now, the end is near And so I face the final curtain.." Perhaps a fans group - remember the MLT effort v Leeds at the Dell - should do a remake for Long & Co, for them to run out to:

Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread

If VVD had taken the chances that came his way in Israel and Milan we'd have been through before tonight. -
A player who has mostly been associated with relegation during his career. There's probably a good reason for that, and we shouldn't have signed him. Just hope his form with relegation doesn't continue.
-
Hopefully bells are also banned. They leave most Saints fans feeling quite sick in fact.

Home to Middlesboro in December. Brings back horrible memories of 'arry's first agme in charge. 2-0 in the 89th minute and still only managed a draw.
-
Yes - very disappointing how a player who has been such a relaible part of our rise appears to be behaving like a stroppy diva after his elevation on the international satge, and a change of agent. Certainly worth more than £5m. Personally I'd like to see us make him see out the season at least. & CERTAINLY NOT SELL HIM TO KOEMAN.

Good player no doubt, but two concerns here: Work permit ? Experience to date of Saints mixing South American imports appears a risky strategy and hasn't yet really worked. But good clips though, and good to see the red sash shirts his club are wearing.

The article linked would suggest it pre-dates Lowe. -
The GK is a regular, and that was our strongest back four today. Generally the rotation provides a reasonably consistent product in my view, reasonable defence (today an exception perhaps) but poor attacking threat. The MF probably sees the most changes in personnel and performance.
