Forte. Needs more playing time, or just not good enough?
Saint_lambden replied to CWD's topic in The Saints
Wasn't there tonight but I think he needs someone to play off i.e Lambert/Guly like at Swindon. Very clumsy player though, kinda like Darren Bent without the goals. -
Freedman said Palace may start a few of their key players that they've rested in previous rounds, so their line-up should be fairly similar to ours.
-
Nige said on Saturday that De Ridder and Aaron Martin would start tomorrow too I think, and that Ben Reeves will be involved again.
-
I hope this isn't a reaction to one poor performance.
-
Should have scored with that header tbh but did well. Both teams defended solidly, the problem for us was in midfield - kept losing possession.
-
Not sure how much Maynard would cost with only 6 months to go but if City still want something around £4m/£5m then I wouldn't bother. Simeon Jackson would be a good buy IMO, although I'm not sure if he'd want to leave Norwich as he's on the brink of the team right now.

Please win Saints, please. Will never hear the end of it if they get the result. Can't wait. Lallana back in for Chaplow and I'm confident. Laughable comments on their forum about us, it's so bitter. They're a sh*t club with sh*t fans, always have been etc...

It's the referee's fault - nothing to do with their discipline!

Holloway gets his 'you're having a laugh' in his face even earlier then - great!

Saints V Watford.4- 0. Post match chat!!
Saint_lambden replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
Well looking over the highlights again, you can see why Watford were aggrieved with the first penalty as it doesn't seem to strike his hand. The 2nd one, right in front of me, seemed soft at the time but the highlights show that Mariappa is holding, although it's more 6 and two dozens with both players doing holding to some degree. Rickie goes down when the ball goes over him but you can see why the ref gave it. The passing move in the second half to set-up Chaplow was phenomenal, Barcelona-esque. -
I know he lives locally and that he still has a soft spot for us but he seems very desperate right now. I just don't see the point of getting him. He's too similar to Lambert, and I'd pick Rickie over him every time. We need a striker with pace, not somebody we're going to have to wait for ages to get back to any form of fitness, let alone contribution to the team. Some fans seem to just want a player back because they were good with us before, but we need to stop living in the past. James is way past his best, and he was never as good after he left us. Some great memories, particularly the Pompey ones, but an arrogant, unfit striker that could cause issues in damaging the squad harmony? No thanks.

Was superb when he came on. Deserved to get a goal and if either of his two chances had gone in, they'd have been early contenders for goals of the season.

Cardiff 2 - 1 Saints - Post Match Reaction
Saint_lambden replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
A real shame cause Cardiff sounded sh!t too. Consensus on Twitter seems to be Harding back in soon, Fox poor defensively. As long as we keep it up at home. Players tired? Back to Hammond-Cork midfield again. Didn't think we'd need a striker but we desperately need some pace up top and something different to cause defenders problems, especially when like in the past two games, we've been poor in possession. A lot of work to do on the training ground before Watford....another bogey team! -
Guly can't play in away games it seems.
-
Not the type of striker we're looking for IMO. We need someone with pace. Thanks for the memories Beatts, but no thanks.
-
Best goal scored: Lallana v Leeds. Best Champagne moment: Lallana's double nutmeg/skill v Birmingham. Best game so far: (Best contest) 3-2 v Forest. Best player at this stage: Lambert so far. Fantastic. Most Improved player: Hammond.

Aldershot away or anybody that's not boring at home. And when I say boring, I mean any of the Championship sides really.

Adkins currently has the best win ratio of any Saints manager EVER. Best start to the season for 103 years. We're pretty damn good etc etc.
-
What he's done in the past to some individuals is horrific but I have time for him on the pitch, great player and great commitment. A very, very good signing for QPR.

Some people don't half like to moan don't they! -
It's lazy journalism AGAIN from TalkSport. They've realised that Pardew used to manage us and that they need a striker. Cortese won't sell him and after signing a new deal recently, Premier League interest or not, I'm sure he wouldn't be desperate to leave. At least I hope so anyway.

1) Pompey 2) Reading 3) Brighton. Desperate to get wins from those, the rest we'll take care of.

Spoke to him at my college, where he does some coaching and advising, back in March I think, and he said he's a youth team coach and helps out Doddsy with the under 18's. Really nice bloke. I had nothing to do with the sports bit but I had a Saints jacket on so he was happy to talk. Said Cortese doesn't deserve the stick he gets either as he was very kind to Murts in offering him to stay on after his injuries. Despite loving it at Saints, he said Reading will always be his team which is fair enough.
