  1. That's a fair point to a degree, however, as a club with no debt we were throwing money around we could afford to pay back. Our business model wasn't unsustainable. Investing that money has also taken us up the leagues. What have Stoke, Sunderland, Villa, West Ham and Skatesmouth got for their spunk? What could they ever hope to achieve? There is no way for Premier League small fry to succeed beyond treading water. Adkins managed to get Colchester out of League 1, and keep them in the Championship for a season, but there's no way he could take Saints (a relative minnow in the league we're in as Colchester were in theirs) to the Premiership's summit. It just can't be done.
  2. Man City? Rooney angling for a transfer? Even fStoke, QPR, Villa, Sunderland and f'ing Pompey are or have been throwing money around like there's no tomorrow since we were last Premier League. Maybe it's just rose-tinted spectacles but yes I think things have got a lot worse. Before it was just Chelsea that had gone down the soulless money-spunk route (if memory serves). All the people clamouring for more better and bigger signings remind me of Skates by the way. The market's ridiculously over-inflated at the moment. Some of the amounts changing hands for very average players with Premier League experience are obscene and obviously more than a sustainable budget can handle. Getting someone in who can improve the squad can be difficult in that climate - especially if the club runs a "we'd rather buy British" policy.
  3. I can honestly sympathise with a lot of those sentiments. The Premiership (pants name) seems to have got even worse than when we were last in it and the only way to more or less hobble along as club is to have someone flush half their fortune down the toilet to make the team vaguely competitive. It's obscene (IMHO) and soulless. What's the point in succeeding if that just means the big boys will poach your manager and your best players next season?
  4. "My life is too full to..." I'd say you and Hypo both need to get a life. Turn off the computer, move away from the keyboard. Go out for a walk, call a mate, get a life FFS.
  5. I think that's a good bet. We clearly have a trigger happy chairman who knows his own mind - to put it mildly. A couple of **** results and he'll loose his rag and NA will be on his way - very sad.
  6. What about Sunderland f.f.s. Ninth? you're 'avin a laugh.
  7. Cos we're doing our nuts - there's nothing to talk about.
  8. Plus he's ****e and surely we're not that stupid.
  9. This... well put.
  10. For some reasons..or another know won has been "courageous" enought to start a thread slagging of SRL. Maybe it is because he is being quality and Puncheon flatters to deceive?
  11. He's just being realistic I guess. It's a shame though that, having found an excellent manager, the club are likely to lose him or sack him at some point in the not to distant future.
  12. That wasn't how I read it.
  13. What Guided Missile did could hardly be described as attempting civilised discussions or banter. I think their just fed up with the knuckle draggers from here posting on their site.
  14. I certainly hope so. When a new website is launched everyone hates it because they're not used to navigating it and find it difficult, then, a couple of months later they think it's great. That's the theory. Personally, I didn't like the old OS and I don't like the new one either.
  15. I don't think he'll be getting any games in the middle of the park now - and the more advanced position he was playing on the right of midfield (as fickle memory serves) at the fag end of last season didn't suit him. The higher up the park you get the less space there is and our moves just always seemed to break down around him. He can carry the ball forward I grant you and he's got a decent shot. As to passing teams to death. I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of tactics Adkins has planned for next season. He's been talking about tweaking them and becoming more defensively solid - I'm guessing we'll be playing even more tappy-tappy and less hit and hope but we'll see I guess.
  16. More likely he's on a fair wack now and is unwilling to take a wage cut. His first touch is not good enough - he just doesn't work in a team that attempts to play possession football. I'd be surprised if he gets much game time.
  17. This
  18. Are you nuts? I would.
  19. You've just really upset someone. Well done.
  20. He reminded me of Pele's and Maradonna's debuts. There is no question he is the greatest footballer this planet will ever see.
  21. Why not just say it like it is. It would be stupid. Winding people up on the Internet is one thing but...
  22. Hi Sandwich Saint. I spend a lot of time in Preston where my father lives - just down the road from Sandwich.
  23. Same here. And another thing Fonte worries me - we need a new centre back.
  24. Reading threads full of twonks clamoring for expensive new signings got me thinking. What's the worst transfer ever? I reckon this one has to come pretty close. A quite amazing waste of wonga. In 2009 West Ham signed forward Savio Magala Nsereko for a fee of around 7.5 million plus add ons and sold him on sharpish (and at a loss). He has yet to score a goal for any of the 6 teams he has played for since and is currently on loan at Sporting Club Vaslui of Romania. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savio_Nsereko Can anyone better that?
