I've seen the impact of alcoholism and I feel nothing but sympathy for those around him. He needs help, but to be honest it would seem he has received as much as it is possible to give. As sadoldgit says...the situation is just very, very sad
-
You think they would like it?

The difference in the liverpool team was incredible when he came on, oddly without him actually doing a whole lot. Not sure if it was him coming on or just the time of the game, but it was like night and day to me. He'll get a fair few sub appearances.

Read that in an Irish accent. Still laughing.

A complete overhaul of the governing body and we might get somewhere. There are a number of reasons it will never happen though. Money; those with the power to change the hierarchy (those with money) benefit from the current system, so they're quite happy with football as it is. Press; Bad news sells. This is caused by the press and the public, so I don't think the blame can be placed squarely at the feet of a few journos. Due to this, if the FA attempt a sea change then they will lambasted for the inevitable short term failure or dip in form. Who cares how it will impact 5 years down the line, I want jam today!

Friedel and Schwarzer are the only ones I can think of. Certainly the exception rather than the rule though.
-
I doubt the intellectuals in the hi-vis will like it to be honest.

I know what it's like to have a personality clash with your manager and to suffer the lack of progression because of it. To be honest, I had to leave the company because of it. If Boruc is not going to be given a chance, I can understand completely why he wants out. I don't know what's happened between RK and AB, so I can't judge. I really want FF and AB to both be competing for the position rather than feeling he has no choice but to leave to get football. There are ways of going about leaving though.

My apologies then, text is severely lacking in emotive sense. Re double negative; It's a personal choice but the sentence as is just jars a little for me. I'm maybe just being pedantic though
-
Uninteresting and pedantic perhaps. I was providing constructive guidance so not without merit. Why would you read what others thought about the piece if you are so uninterested in their opinion? I would imagine that the OP posted this for feedback, not just for sycophantic ego boosts.

Seems OK, obviously a young writer so it seems raw. The flow isn't great, long meandering sentences, separated by commas, obviously just a question of style, this will come in time. I would avoid double negatives City in the 2012/2013 opening game? There's not need to lie

I get a vote in this, and it's a fervent no from me. Strange that the yes campaign are making a fuss about how the no campaign is trying to scare the voters while they themselves are saying only a yes vote will guarantee the continuation of the NHS. Ridiculous claim based on nothing but scare tactics. The Scottish government have total control over the NHS in Scotland and additional tax raising powers should they need to increase funding. Even if the rest of the UK reduces the NHS budget, the Scottish Government already has sufficient powers to compensate this. I wonder if their next "guarantee" will be to promise that there will never be wild tigers roaming the streets of Glasgow. The pound issue is also bizarre. If you want to keep the pound, surely recent history has proven you need a conjoined fiscal policy...doesn't sound like independence to me.
-
Nationalism and religion; the sooner we're rid of both the better....not just the UK. As humans we have an uncontrollable need for "the bad guy" or "the others" though, so it's not going to happen.
-
Could be a majority of the team at some point, not a starting 11 though. Shaw and Chambers will likely be starting in a few years. I don't see the others as starters. I'm trying to work out if it's just bitterness on my part or not, but I don't think lallana will do half as well at liverpool as he has up to this point...he'll probably still get in the england squad though. I'm a bit torn with JWP. I hope he gets to play for the national side if that's what he wants to do, but doing so will mean he is likely to be off. It would be an endorsement of the academy if it were to happen, but given the quality of the england team, not a ringing one.

This kind of railing against technological advancement just smacks of old men who are scared about how little they understand the modern world. It will happen. It will be ubiquitous. Get used to it.

Liverpool vs Saints - which ONE player did we miss the most
KingdomCome replied to StratfordSaint's topic in The Saints
We could have won if either our defence or attacking was stronger. Lovren or JayRod and we would have won it imho. Depends how you want to win to decide between them. I'd prefer a solid defence so I'd have to say Lovren. -

One poor shot doesn't make a bad player. You would hope for better, but he had more than one touch of the ball yesterday.

That would explain the reformation then (not the religious one).

I know how you feel, I don't have the same "down" after the loss. I'm not sure if it's that we played well or that I don't care as much. I would say it's the former. No matter how broken the game gets, it's like an addiction, you know it's bad, but it doesn't stop you going back for more.

"It could have been different" I think he's just voicing what a lot (if not all) Saints fans are feeling. It could have been different. It doesn't mean he is criticising the club or the board. I think if football was funded at a more reasonable level, Saints could have easily kept the players they had, signed a few more and pushed on to challenge for the league. With the über wages at the top though, it just isn't possible. Put it this way, I've recently left employment with a company I enjoyed working for, but they can;t afford to offer me the position I have been working for over the last few years. It doesn't mean they aren't a good company or that they are poorly managed or that they treat their employees badly. It just means what it means, they aren't able to operate in the same sphere as where I want to be working. I feel absolutely no malice towards anyone looking to move to earn more, it's a job after all.
