  1. Not quite sure how a manager that lost 4-0 to Crystal Palace is the answer to all our problems to be honest. We can do better.
  2. Nothing quite like winning the league and then losing your player of the season on a free...
  3. We're the two lowest-scoring teams in the league right? It's either going to be 0-0 or 5-4.
  4. Didn't think we were terrible, we had a couple of decent chances in the first half, some good defending too, nice to see us hoofing it away when we need to as that always makes me sh*t myself when we dawdle around with it at the back. Listening to the commentators jack themselves off over Sanchez's goal ("ballet and balance") was annoying, especially as Forster really should be saving that. I'd drop Davis next game, he had another poor one, and start Boufal over Forster because I honestly don't know why we bother playing with a keeper recently.
  5. Glad to see Fraser's been working on his dodgy-penalty saving yesterday, suspect it might come in handy with Arsenal desperate for a win but with little attacking threat at the moment (fluke and standard Welbeck header against a weakened Man United notwithstanding). 0-1 injury time penalty to the Arse by any chance?
  6. Blackburn relegated, surely Sam G will be back with us next season? Sent from my ZTE A2017U using Tapatalk
  7. I agree. Personally I'm a fan of Puel and would personally give him more time, but if we are um-ing and ah-ing about his future, he needs to either be given concrete backing or needs to be chopped ASAP to give a new manager time to (hopefully) end the season on a high and to give our current important players a reason to stay.
  8. I'd say they've done a fair job, Yoshi in particular has been genuinely very good by anyone's standards, not just third-choice CB standard. Stephens has done better than many expect, not amazing but he's done a job. It doesn't look as though Cacares will be here next season so it makes sense to give Stephens as much experience as possible because it's very unlikely that he'll be playing that many games next season (assuming our board has learned its lesson from the CB situation this year)
  9. I don't think any of us were expecting any point from this game, I'm pleased we scored two goals - any other game and Bertrand's goal would have been excellent, full-back to full-back. We're lacking a leader in defence (VvD or goalie - let's face it, Fraser's never going to be a vocal leader) and we're playing too many similar players - Davis/JWP, Tadic/Boufal - only one of those pairs should be in the line up. I'm normally a big fan of Davis but he's been poor recently, too cautious when he plays deeper as he's more concerned about keeping possession than starting attacks. I thought Boufal looked decent, showing glimpses of what he can do but needs more discipline when defending around our box, I'd start him over Tadic next game. They're going to win the league, we've got nothing to play for, we were never going to get anything out of that. Bring on Hull, hopefully Barry can bump up his goals-to-games ratio a bit more.
  10. Going to be a tough decision for me - I voted Tory last time as Labour was a joke, the Lib Dems had entirely betrayed the student population with the uni fees debacle, and the Greens is a wasted vote. Similar situation this time around apart from the Tories are ruining things faster than before, Labour are even more of a joke, and the Lib Dems have not been relevant enough to annoy anybody in any effectual way. I'll probably vote Lib Dem though it would leave a sour taste in my mouth after Clegg.
  11. Top half finish, 50+ goals scored, quarter/semi final of a cup, finish above Everton, actually beat at least one of the top six. Simple!
  12. So... anybody want to talk about the game against Manchester City on Saturday?
  13. Sigurdsson will go to a team bigger than us, as great as he would be here. Pickford will also be in demand, though his choices may be more limited if he wants to be a guaranteed starter every week. Depends on what our plans are for Fraser. I don't think there's anyone I'd take from Middlesbrough apart from Valdez, but again that depends on Fraser. Sent from my ZTE A2017U using Tapatalk
  14. The Leicester game is yet another argument in favour of video replays during the game. If the video is reviewed and given as a free-kick (correctly) then there's no penalty and Leicester possibly come out of the game with a better result. If the penalty is clear and therefore given after a review then we avoid the whole controversy and was-it-wasn't-it argument. With a video replay last night there's no way a competent referee would give that as a penalty.
  15. Long and Redmond have to start along with Gabbi if fit. City are so stubborn playing out of the back but they don't really have the players able to do it. Their keeper and full backs in particular are very panicky when pressed. Aguero has been poor this season (by his standards) but David Silva has been immense. PEH and Clasie to continue in DM for me, I wouldn't risk Reed as he gives away too many fouls especially against a lightweight attacking side with Silva, De Bruyne, Aguero, Sterling all more than happy to hit the deck at the lightest touch. Can't see either team keeping a clean sheet (unless Fraser goes full Shop Window form). Do we know who the referee is? Can see somebody like Mike Dean giving a dodgy penalty when Sterling goes down like he does 3-4 times a game.
  16. They pay the club money, the club put their logo on the things and go in their advert. They don't owe the fans anything and what they've done with the subsidies is above and beyond what other sponsors do for their clubs. Where's the con? Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk
  17. Looking forward to this one, hard to call either way. I'll be flying during the match so hopefully I'll have a happy result to look forward to when I land. JWP to score again! 1-1 prediction.
  18. He was playing really really well for United before that double-leg break, one of their best players and fans were pleased to finally have a reliable LB. Then the injury happened, and we all know he didn't have a great diet in the first place but he was suddenly unable to burn thousands of calories a day in training. He put on weight, lost fitness, and then the Portuguese nob came in who isn't exactly known for his positive man-management and has left him out in the cold, as he so often does. Luke needs to get out of there to a more nurturing club. If United have any sense they'd send him on loan to West Brom or Bournemouth or Leicester. I can see Spurs coming in with a low bid in summer (though Rose is in the way). Poch got the most out of him and I'm sure Luke would be keen to be under him again.
  19. Impressed with our performance second half, there was a period where it looked for sure like a classic Southampton play-better-more-chances-still-lose kind of game when Palace had about four corners in a row, but surprisingly good attacks (the ones that didn't involve Shane). Good three points, much needed win, bring on WBA. With Romeu suspended now for two games (WBA and City) will we see Stephens step up into DM and Caceres finally get a start? Hopefully Davis will be fine to play, and if Gabbi is back too then we might start making some serious progress... though who needs Gabbiadini when you have Ward-Prowse, Goal Machine?
  20. Is Gabbi back in time for this? I've heard reports either way. I guess we play JRod up top if not and hope Dusan has his shooting boots with him this time.
  21. Completely changed the outcome of yesterday's France-Spain game - France were disallowed one and Spain awarded one both by the video referee, and afterwards the France manager came out and said it was great to have the correct decisions awarded even though he was on the 'losing' side of both these decisions. Can't come soon enough in my opinion - and the opinion on this seems fairly obviously divided along the young(er) vs old(er) lines.
  22. 6 points ahead of the play-off places now, surely not even Portsmouth could screw this up? Sent from my SGP712 using Tapatalk
  23. If this take over does happen, FFP will limit how much of an impact the new money will make, right? FFP is based on incomes of a club, so attendance and sponsorships. The best way to increase the income would be to increase the size of the ground (unlikely, there's no more space for FP to grow and I don't expect this guy would want to spend a good chunk of his free cash on land and a stadium in Portsmouth for what had been described as a 'hobby' for him) or increase ticket prices, which won't please the locals. Because of FFP this guy won't suddenly be buying up Sunderland players when they get relegated... Or am I wrong in how FFP works? Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk
  24. Not great, not the end of the world, hope Gabby is okay. Loved our chant of 'He's One Of Your Own' for Andre Marriner, who had a terrible game. Move on to Bournemouth, where we will of course be without Bertrand.
  25. Looks like he's now davidinfrance on the BBC HYS sections. No bold and underline formatting options there though so he'll come crawling back to us!
