  1. In defence of The Snooze, not that I wish to defend them, I met Tony Husband recently and in conversation asked him why BBC South never go into more detail about BC , Portpin, Gaydamak etc. He explained ( I suppose inevitably)that the media was not in a position to report much of what they were made aware of, due to potential litigation.
  2. This is the failing, in my opinion. We are playing too much football in our own half, which is great for a confident team with better individuals than the opposition. We now need a season of playing percentage football, mainly in the opposition's half of the field, and getting the ball there quicker. Once we have Messi, Javi and Iniesta on board we can return to play the 'Southampton Way'.
  3. Big ole city over a huge square mileage - DFW (Dallas Fort Worth) or the Metroplex . Check out the (televised) rodeo in the indoor stadium at Mesquite, with a whole bunch of huge pick up driving, cowboy hat wearing youth. Six Flags over Texas at Arlington is fun with massive roller coasters . The main thing is be aware of the huge distances involved in travelling anywhere, and of course it's hot.
  4. The entrance / part of the main stand building may be listed, but not the concrete terracing etc to the other three sides Nick.
  5. Must be Delgado, hopefully not Tadanari Lee.
  6. I have had several good nights and shared trips to Guernsey in the company of MLT, and have never met NC. But I am quite happy to accept that NC is not a nice man. Until he F*cks over the club, which I somehow doubt he will, I am easy with this arrangement !
  7. Reported on BBC South Today tonight. Negotiations with the Trust reopened.... and so it goes on, with ever decreasing sums of money.
  8. Reading between the lines and Mikah Hall's blogs I would be amazed if either the football league or the administrators ever have the balls to tell Portpin that they are not fit and proper, as they would wake up with the Israeli equivalent of a horses head in their bed.
  9. or put your body goal side and stick the foot out...
  10. Cilla Black? a Krankie ? Tina Turner?
  11. NA is one of us, we've come on the journey together ( as one)
  12. Totally agree FF. It is a shame that we did not have the honeymoon of relatively easier fixtures like say Blackpool did. The fixture men never gave us that luxury, so we have our stall set out already ,rather than gradually slip down the table. I hope NA, Crosby etc are given a good time period to sort things out as our downfall last time around was the merry go round of managers we had in the seasons after the 2003 cup final. Without wishing to sound pessimistic, I have always admired West Brom, who accepted they were the 18th -20th ranked club and moved up and down for many years before finding their feet in the top 15 sides.
  13. Sunday Premiership football is a pain, giving the couch potatoes their daily dosage at the expense of the attending supporter. I have two season tickets but also run a team in the county youth league. Most youth leagues and many senior leagues play on a Sunday. When in the lower leagues it didn't really affect Saints games as one off games, for example the Man U cup game when we were in Div 1, meant the occasional game could be rearranged. With many Saints games now on Sundays this will not happen. One of the disadvantages of being back in the Premiership I suppose.
  14. A Norwich supporting mate said the biggest difference for their supporters last season was that to succeed in the premiership they were aiming for 40 points, ie. dropping 74 points. In their two previous two seasons, like us, they had a 90 point target, ie dropping 48 points. Welcome to the Premiership Saints supporters of a nervous / impatient disposition !! Or alternatively enjoy the ride as at worst we become the 18th best club in the country and become the new boing boing club.
  15. My inlaws live on South Georgia and have dropped in on St Helena on their way (via Ascension) back to the UK. When the volcano erupted on Tristan Da Cunha in the 1960s the natives were temporarily rehoused in Southampton.
  16. Dont forget between MLT and Lambo, David McGoldrick passed back to the keeper on a number of occasions when penalties were awarded to Saints during the Double Dutch days.
  17. I've done the round trip several times and would recommend clockwise. Best to get the Vegas to LA desert stint over with early on, stopping only for petrol, food, bladder needs. We have done the 900 odd miles in one long day but it's a drag. Northwards up Route one is great, clear scenery, although more recently there tend to be fires in the hills behind Santa Barbara. Stop at Venice Beach, Malibu pier, Santa Barbara and San Simeon (Hearst Castle). Monterey and Carmel are sea orientated and have a relaxed feel to them, we have stayed there as annual holidays on completely different holidays to a road trip. The aquarium is on the front, Steinbeck's Cannery Row, and canoeing with the sea otters is a good half day as is cycling the 17 Mile Drive, which apart from a steeper section around the hills is all pretty flat. The Monterey Plaza Hotel on the front generally has accommodation. Carmel is delightful and rustic. San Francisco is a good day although the weather can be the opposite of everywhere else. Over the Golden Gate bridge to the boat homes of Sausalito and the wine tasting area of the Napa Valley. Lake Tahoe is delightful. Yosemite I would maintain is still the best place I have ever been to anywhere in over 50 years of travelling the world . If you can book in advance stay for a week in somewhere like Curry Village. Any hike up to the Vernal and Nevada Falls or Half Dome is great as the paths quickly clear of day trippers. However you will need a wilderness permit for Half Dome. Do not be put off by the ludicrous times given to reach destinations as a reasonably fit European can generally half these. Then down to Death Valley and maybe a trip to the Grand Canyon , via the Hoover Dam, albeit quite a big detour. Enjoy !
  18. After years of struggling and the WGS successes moving us up, I'm afraid 'Arry's lack of interest has only just been rectified , after the wilderness he introduced us all to.
  19. When Highbury was turned into apartments anyone who purchased an apartment got two season tickets for several seasons in the top tier, in amongst all the Ticketmaster theatre ticket Japanese tourist brigade. Many of these tickets circulate around. Hope this helps.
  20. Has any one overhauled our catering lately, we were told it was at its best when we were relegated from this league?
  21. PES, NC is doing all we could wish for to get the Saints back to sustaining a place in the best league in the world. Don't worry about us, no problems here old chum !
  22. Wow, I suppose as Guly is likely to lose his place, Fox will become the target of the 'never happy' brigade on this forum. This somewhat depresses me as unlike the last two seasons when we generally won, we need to unite this season behind whoever wears the shirt. We need to win about 10 -11 games and draw 5-6 to survive. As we are told -Together we stand. COYR
  23. Spiderman won so much ball in the midfield today he was MoM before he scored. Class act. Still to understand how those Dutch jokers got him on board.
  24. Strange today. No need to bring off Lambert or Lallana. Not sure what our management were thinking. If Mayuka had to come on as a straight swap with Puncheon would have been fine and enough. How to throw away three points.
