  1. i am going to force myself to be optimistic, but let's say we beat Swansea Swansea has 33 points with 4 games left: City L Chelsea L Bournemouth D Stoke W finishes with 37 points Saints have 31 points with 4 games left: Leicester L Bournemouth W Everton W City D finishes with 38 points (or even lose to City and win on possible goal differential at 37 points) --- the other optimistic scenario is Huddlesfield loses their remaining 4 matches (City, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Everton) & ends with 35 points we end up Leicester L Swansea W Bournemouth W Everton D City L and Saints end up with 35 points and win on goal differential. again, these are purely optimistic, but not entirely implausible scenarios. of course this is also all predicated on Stoke continuing to lose.
  2. Let's not forget Lovren. For all the stick he gets, he is better than the 5 CBs we currently have.
  3. hey, look at me, look at me!!! really, everyone look at me!! bugger, even in this terrible run, it's all about you. You couldn't care less about this club.
  4. no kidding.. 1 goal in the last 5 league games. and this was supposed to be our easy run.
  5. Was just about to post this after reading through the thread. I personally miss Pelle more than anyone that has left in the last 5 years. The sheer joy he had when he would score, his apparent love for the team and his teammates. i think our struggles can be tied to him leaving more than any other player that has left. Yeah, he was likely on the downside of his career when he left, but there still two really good more years there.
  6. I was in the camp that sacking him mid season would be worse for the club than better. but after today, now I am in the camp that he must be sacked now. I mean, come on, we are stuck in first gear and I don't see MP guiding us out of it. Maybe no one can at this point, but we have to at least try. If we are going to go down, at least go down fighting.. not laying down.
  7. Austin 6 goals (599 minutes) Carrillo 0 goals (445 minutes) still incredible to think Austin is the leading goal scorer on the team. Redmond 0 goals (1646 minutes) Lemina 1 goal (1497 minutes) Boufal 2 goals (1192 minutes) Tadic 3 goals (2130 minutes)
  8. we played them to a 1-1 draw for 96 minutes away. anything is possible.
  9. to me its a combination of: 01) the club doesn't want to come off as a "knee jerk sack the manager" club. This is so that we remain an attractive destination for good managers in the future. 02) the club feels the turmoil of a mid season replacement would make matters worse. 03) the club doesn't want to be saddled with a mid season replacement manager next season. I do think regardless of relegation or staying up, MP is gone in June. I don't buy into the theory that the club feels he is the right man for the job. A 15th-17th place finish should not be a job saver.
  10. i will look to stay positive. Current 6 match form has given us 7 points, which is 1.16 points per match. 9 matches left x 1.16 = 10.44 28 points + 10.44 = 38 points. (with a good goal diff.) If we keep current form, odds are we stay up. So, all is well (wink).
  11. Would be very difficult to follow the club from the States. i suppose i could still view match stat sheets from the Championship matches and get lucky enough to see them one or twice on TV if they play a PL team in a Cup match.
  12. i swear to god.. if this is not our line-up next match my head is going to explode ----------------Gabbi------------- ------Tadic-----Boufal-----Sims-- ---------Højbjerg----Lemina----- Bertrand-Stephens-Hoedt-Cedric --------------McCarthy------------
  13. will never ever be upset with a win and advancing in the Cup. However, i think this manager is dead man walking. Les and the board are going to try to limp to the end of the season and pray we stay up. will make a manager change this summer.
  14. he didn't play in the City game where they gave up 3
  15. after this week's matches.. 538 has us at a 15% chance of relegation and predicts a 14th place finish with 39 points. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/premier-league/ Sportclubstats has us at a 11.7% chance of relegation http://www.sportsclubstats.com/England/Southampton.html
  16. Yeah, that should have been in the back of the net, but at least it didn't cost us points, unlike ManCity today Did you see Sterling's missed sitter?! Holy Moses.
  17. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/England/Southampton.html i've used this one in the past. 20.9% chance of relegation. but let's look positively and make plans for Europe. If we finish 14-0-0, we have a 1% chance of finishing in 4th.
  18. this.... and if that handball goal had been disallowed last weekend against Watford we would be feeling a whole lot better. would be in 14th place, 2 points off 10th place.
  19. i would recommend that we tie Hoedt's ankle to Kane's ankle with a rope. That should do the trick. but seriously, we need to stick to Kane like glue. So many of his goals are about his positioning. keep a hip on him, rough him up a little, don't let him roam free, make him uncomfortable. Hell, tell Hoedt not to even look at the ball once during the match; just keep your eyes on Kane.
  20. When we finish in 18th, 1 point off 17th, this one will hurt more.
  21. so McCarthy has one good game and some of you want to ship Forster off? i thought the whole point, when Forster was off form, was to have competition at the GK spot. Forster has quality, let the two have a healthy competition for the spot. Keep each other on their toes.
  22. I see our point total and how the 3 points we are from the relegation zone and logically you might say we are in a relegation scrap, but it's really hard to imagine it's possible. Swansea and Newcastle as surely going down right? I am thinking Stoke, West Brom, Bournmouth or Brighton likely take the third spot. this website, which i have relied on in the past is noting that 35 points based on current season form will get you 17th place. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/England/Southampton.html A win Saturday would take us to 21.. surely we could scrap 14 the rest of the way. Keep the Pelligrino (for now), sell VVD, pick up some 2 quality players in January. We should be fine. Re-evaluate Pelligrino in May.
  23. to my eyes, it seemed Pellegrino's strategy in the 2nd half was to defend and protect our 1 goal deficit. Success, I guess.
  24. and how wonderful that our best two players were involved in the allowed goal. Yoshi committing the foul in prime free kick range and Forster who couldn't be bothered to look up and defend the free kick. i still don't fear relegation Swansea, Newcastle, West Brom way more likely.
  25. So what do you think the reaction to Puel will be at St. Mary's Wednesday? polite clapping? collective yawn?
