Sorted out the financial mess that Cortes left us in. Four consecutive top ten finishes. A cup final. European football. More success than her father achieved with the club. What a poor return for “zero investment.” If that doesn’t warrant a torrent of personal abuse I don’t know what does. Ok hypo, now start with the “yeah, buts.”

You have to wonder what someone’s weight has to do with anything. Also what Markus would make of the unpleasant abuse heaped onto his daughter. Criticism of the way someone runs the club is one thing, the personal abuse something else.

I beg to differ Duckie, but then you are stuck in a 70’s time warp where women are “chicks” and “birds” and cloggers could make a living in professional football. Fortunately the world has moved on and that is mostly no longer the case. By his own admission he was a clogger. 3 England B caps? They clearly had a look at him and thought “no thanks.” For the record, Vinnie Jones, another clogger, got 9 full Welsh caps. Would you have been happy to see Jim in a Saints shirt? However he performed for the likes of Brentford, Millwall and Rangers, my memories of him playing for us are not good ones.

He was voted Brentford’s fifth best ever player. Brentford. Fifth! He isn’t the worst ever player I have seen play for us but he would certainly make it into my worst ever Saints XI. I must have missed his better performances but do remember one game when he seemed to get through the whole 90 minutes without touching the ball. He came from an era when 3rd and 4th division players were mainly cloggers and hoofers. It would be hard to imagine him having a career in professional football if he was playing nowadays. I used to play against people like him every week on park pitches. He said himself that he couldn’t get anywhere near decent players unless he was just kicking them. As has been said, one of Branfoot’s finest!

You do know it’s not the 70’s any more don’t you?

One of the worst players I have seen in a Saints shirt.

This would be the same Batman that told us, week in, week out, how cr ap Pelle was? I think most people on here recognised at the time that he was a decent manager but also at the time, he did not have a plan B if his high press didn’t work. People learn and improve (apart from Batman it would appear) and that would seem to be the case with Pochettino. He still hasn’t won anything yet though

By far the best goalkeeper I have ever seen. I remember cursing when Pele headed the ball down in the corner and couldn’t believe it when the ball didn’t go it. But that wasn’t a one off. He made goalkeeping look easy which, of course, it isn’t. I saw him play for Stoke against Fulham. There was a shot from about 20 yards out that Banks moved to save but it hit a defender and changed direction. He was in midair but somehow twisted the other way and put the ball over the bar. My brother and I just looked at each other and said how on earth did he do that? A true sporting legend and by all accounts a decent human being too. RIP Gordon.

He has just returned from injury. Leganes are currently only 3 points off of 6th place.

How so? We need two decent keepers and FF isn't in the picture. Makes perfect sense to me. The only problem is that we haven't been able to offload FF.

Which is all very well if Birmingham were happy to sell, which clearly they were not.

So the idea that disgruntled senior players causing problems in the camp because they aren’t getting regular games so being shipped out to help restore morale doesn’t wash? Yet only a couple of days ago it was seen as the reason why things had changed and why we were unbeaten this year? One poor result and the world falls in and we are back to where we were. We weren’t the worst club in the world before Christmas, we weren’t last week and we aren’t now. But there is clearly a lot of work to be done in terms of the playing strength and that has only just started. What happens in the summer will obviously depend on which division we are in but we can depend on one thing at least, the whinging will continue here.

Wow, and these people call themselves supporters. I do wonder why some people waste so much of their lives slagging off something they say they “support.” If supporting Southampton FC makes you that unhappy and angry surely your lives would be better spent doing something else? Yes, the match yesterday sucked and was hugely frustration but it was just a game of football. I would have added that nobody died, but people did die, and two supposed football supporters made fun of that. If you want to get really angry at something, get angry at morons who think it is okay to behave like that - God knows football crowds are full of people like that. We are a bang average side and have been for a while. I have been supporting this club since 1966 and for the vast majority of that time we have been a bang average club. If you want constant success you really are in the wrong place.
-
How did we contrive to lose that? Cardiff are a very poor side but once again we have plenty of possession but don’t put enough pressure on their goal. We gave away 2 soft goals again, the second our not unfamiliar Keystone Cops defending from the moment Stephens gave the ball away. Ralph didn’t look a happy bunny for most of the match. Perhaps we should play all our home games away in future. We just seem pants at St Mary’s.

Not one Premiership club has signed him so it wasn’t just us that thought he wasn’t up to it. Nothing wrong with being a quality Championship level player, which is what he is.
-
Played well in the final against Arsenal all those years ago.
-
Here’s a thought. He hasn’t played because he had an operation and is still not 100% fit. Not as cool as wild speculation and it doesn’t fit in with what some people want to think, but hey, it might just be true?
-
Maybe so, but in an ideal world both would be on the bench as back up. Sadly it is not an ideal world.

That’s what above about this board - the posters who love to get their whinging in early.

Why not? Isn’t the point off academy players to bring new talent through to the first team? If they aren’t good enough then we still hope that they will fetch a decent fee so that we can reinvest. Would you have us just dump the academy and buy up “outsiders?” I wouldn’t say there is a fascination with academy players, but I think most normal people prefer to see home grown players succeed rather than picking off proven talent from elsewhere.

Apparently we have had a £12m bid turned down for St Etienne midfielder Ole Selnaes. He is set for China.
-
As per usual you mean?

Lemina has just had an operation.

That footballing genius Adrian Durham spent a large part of his programme the other day slagging off Benitez for playing a weakened team in the cup. His rationale was that he had a better chance of a cup run than beating City so put out a stronger team in the cup and a weaker one against City. D’oh! Yet another example of why those that can do and those who can’t whitter away from the sidelines.
