benjii Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/Membership/0,,10280,00.html Well, I was going to buy one this year (unlike the past few). Moving away so don't want an ST. A lot of small away sections, prospect of play-offs ( ) etc... membership was looking attractive. Maybe they're planning on dirt cheap STs and flogging loads of them. Gorgiesaint Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 That is interesting, like you I was intending to get a membership to help get tickets for away games (living in Edinburgh & working Saturdays means a season ticket is a non-runner - plastic me!!) Interesting also that Junior Saints membership is £15 for the year with entry to 5 games with a paying adult - thats a good encouragement to get some kids along & start up the next generation of Saints fans. I don't remember previous offers being that good although I will stand corrected if anyone can remember.
Amesbury Saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 perhaps they will bring out some interesting offers like a Saturday ST or week night matches ST.

Mole Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 It's a strange decision if this is the case. I'm disapointed as wanted a membership.
NickG Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 with ticket databases now its not really needed, is it? only paying for privilege of getting a ticket. surely any games such as play offs, where there is a demand, can go on sale to ST holders, attendees of 12 games in last 12 months, then 8 etc
latter day saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 is a pity they not doing them as it is a way for people who cant afford ST's to make a contribution to the club & feel like they are doing there own, small, bit to help the cause. I suppose it could work in the clubs favour though as the onus will be on attending home games to earn the right to tickets more, but for the many fans who live miles away and go to many away games (there's an army of faces i see) it's a bit of a let down. John D Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 I pretty disappointed too. As an exiled saint there is no point in getting a season ticket but I would happily pay for a membership to give me little bit of priority behind the season tickets and before the masses for the big games or small away allocations etc Matty Out!!! NickG Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 but surely if you go to some of these home or away games there can easily be ways for you to get prioity in future
benjii Posted 18 June, 2009 Author Share Posted 18 June, 2009 but surely if you go to some of these home or away games there can easily be ways for you to get prioity in future I don't agree with that sentiment. If you live far away and don't want to go to many games but want to ensure you have a fighting chance of getting a ticket for a certain few, you get a Membership. If all the super fans who have been to loads of games want to ensure you don't get in there instead of them, they get a membership too (and many of them probably would anyway). A membership is a form of allegiance that elevates you above the regularly attending non-member. On top of all that, it's easy money for the club. If they have some innovative new proposal then great, let's hear it before judging, of course. On the face of it, it seems odd though. I would have thought Membership was one of the easiest ways of generating cash. If you're going to maintain a customer database in any event then there appears no reason not to try and charge some of them to be higher up it! Badger Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 Is it possible that memberships have been suspended this season due to the fact we are approaching season ticket sales etc so late on that it would be a logistic nightmare to process it all now ? Don't agree with the decision as I too was going for a membership this season.
.comsaint Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 It's no big deal imo. Season ticket holders will save themselves ££££'s over the course of a season; and there will be plenty of seats available for everyone else in this division the coming season. So - who really needs a membership?
oxfordshire_saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 I haven't bothered with membership since we got relegated from the Prem, haven't really needed it. I suggest if anyone is looking at going to games sporadically that they book tickets over the phone, as then any transactions will be logged, rather than doing a walkup and paying with cash. May be useful to have the games you've attended on record incase we get to a playoff final and they use such a method to distribute tickets left after STH have taken theirs. SaintBobby Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 I don't think we really need membership anymore - at least not for this season. 1. Virtually no home games (if any) will sell out, so just buy on general sale if you want a ticket. 2. Away allocations are so incredibly restrictive for most games that ST holders will snap them all up ahead of members anyway, with the exception of Leeds, Norwich and Charlton (in which cases you will be able to buy on general sale). 3. Any special preferential treatment can be based on loyalty (measured by purchases of tickets on the database) or through the various Saints regional fans groups. SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 Personally, I'm pleased to see the end of paid membership. I originally became a member of the club back in the days when it was free of charge. When paid membership came in I was if I remember correctly a poor ex-student on a year-out unable to afford to get to many games (not that I can afford to get to many now!) and living too far away to get to many anyway. The cost of membership made it even more expensive and basically I was excluded from supporting Saints for several years because of it. It was only when I moved up north and joined a regional supporters group (in my case 'Northern Saints') that I once again found myself able to attend matches once more. Personally, this is where I would like to see the emphasis placed instead of on club membership. The regional supporters groups help develop a committed group of supporters, especially, but not exclusively, for away fixtures. Being part of one of these is a bit like being part of a little family. They also ensure fairness in terms of priority purchasing of tickets. For those that wonder how they will buy a ticket for a match now that membership is gone, I would urge you to join your nearest regional supporters group. If you are in the north, for example, why not come and join 'Northern Saints'?
offix Posted 19 June, 2009 Share Posted 19 June, 2009 with ticket databases now its not really needed, is it? only paying for privilege of getting a ticket. Correct. I think this is a great move. It takes away another unnecessary financial obstacle to buying tickets. We are not likely to sell out SMS for most matches, so there is no need for membership fees, and the club can always use the ticket database to determine ticket eligibility for away game tickets. I am an exile (Bury north of Manchester), but have never had any problem paying on the door at eg Leeds, Burnley, Wolves, Brum, Stoke. Are you talking about local away games only and is it different for these further away games in L1 (Huddersfield/Hartlepool)?
John D Posted 19 June, 2009 Share Posted 19 June, 2009 Providing they do some form of recognition for those supporters who attend games through a database then I guess it will be ok - I'll be going to enough to qualify for the JP final anyway! Still seems strange decision as I reckon they still could have made some money by keeping memberships going

SaintDonkey Posted 19 June, 2009 Share Posted 19 June, 2009 Main reasons for membership IMHO were being able to be sure of an away ticket sooner (and thuse planning ahead) and being able to use the online bookng. If they're losing membership then maybe they're finally opening up the online booking to everyone?
Scummer Posted 19 June, 2009 Share Posted 19 June, 2009 If they're losing membership then maybe they're finally opening up the online booking to everyone? It's ridiculous that they haven't done this in the past. Online booking was the main reason I renewed my membership each year, but like you I found I could still log in and book even when it had temporarily expired. Let's hope it remains like that - or that they open it up for everyone.
Sheff Saint Posted 19 June, 2009 Share Posted 19 June, 2009 Shame. I’m sure it’ll be replaced by something or they’ve got something lined up but living in Sheff I couldn’t get a ST anymore and I lked to continue my affinity by getting a membership. Also, despite some whining on here about ticket allocation, I always think it was spot on. I don’t think anyone that’s wanted a ticket has not got a ticket since the cup final. And even then I reckon anyone that had been to more than 3 or 4 games in the previous year got one. Hope they don’t introduce some silly system to replace it, but sure they won’t.
