Skacel, Euell, BWP = left on free transfers (no sale..)

Surman and DMG were sold during administration to help pay the staff.

Since the takeover we have sold no one and signed 1 + Kelvins contract... with more to follow

Yep, we're still a selling club. ML out!

Lol. So someone posts that we are a selling club and then lists a load of players (the mule excepted.) that were sold BEFORE the takeover and that isn't retarded?

Ha. Yes its predominantly retarded. The only big miss for me there is Surman. Could he not have hung on a couple of weeks? I would not **** off to Wolves if I knew we were about to be taken over.

Wolves gave him the chance to play in the Premiership two leagues above us. Also Wolves offered him Premiership wages and he has his young family to think of. No matter what Mr Liebherr does he will not offer players Premiership wages when we are currently in League One. I don't blame Surman for going at all and would have done the same.

Think you got your history back-to-front, mate or perhaps had a lobotomy at the time of the takeover. You also need to be clear what you mean by "a selling club" - selling to balance the books? selling because the offer is too good to refuse? selling because the player is cack? or selling because the player wants to play in a higher division.

Only in the first scenario can you accuse the club of lacking of ambition or leadership but those desperation-driven sales -DMG and Surman- took place pre-takeover; at any rate, even with all the money in the world it might have been difficult to keep them - Surman will be playing two divisions above us this season. A nonsense thread.

Yep well there's the difference. If I was him I would have stayed. This proves I love Saints more than Surman. (BTW if it were an established prem side after me I may have to rethink.)

I think you'd take a different view if it was your career. Remember the future of Saints was still in limbo at the time and this move means he plays and tests himself at Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea rather than Exeter, Yeovil and Carlisle.

Anyone that thinks players should choose the later is deluding themselves and need to remove the rose tinted glasses.

Although I agree we need to bring players in, signings shouldn't be done to "appease the fans", they should be done to improve the team.

Plus, of course, he can savour the delights of living in Wolverhampton. Who wouldn't forego Hampshire for that?

What is retarded, is the impolite, rude and aggressive responses to a poster making what he thought was a valid point.

If you don't agree with it just point out why, or if it evokes any emotion, ignore it.

There are too many on here reverting to immature name calling when there is absolutely no necessity.

The administrators are part of the problem by ignoring it.

I don't believe some of the posters on this forum. Up until the takeover, the players were a hopeless bunch of ***ts who didn't even deserve to be paid. Now the club is being berated because those same players have left the club. Priceless!! The likes of Skacel BWP and Euell were always going to leave. They hung about just in-case there wasn't any interest elsewhere, the same now with John. Surman, who by the way was getting pelters on here, would have stayed but had to be sacrificed to allow the wages to be paid pre takeover, but now will be playing PL football next season, despite not being good enough (according to this lot) for the Championship.

Would Wolves have hung on for a couple of weeks ? would staff have waited a couple of weeks for they're wages ? was he even aware of who was about to take us over ?

On the surface it would seem a no brainer for him but I bet he thought for some time about it, 'it' being his career, his family and what his fee will mean to this club(at that time) imo he did the right thing by them all and I for one hope he succeeds.

Fair point that you love Saints, but if you are a young-ish player with potential, then for the sake of your career you would take the move to the premiership without a doubt in my opinion.

Like a few have already mentioned, pretty much every club is a selling club and if the players don't want to be here then there is no point having them hanging around. Its part of football and we all have to deal with it.

for one... Skacel, Wright Phillips and Euell weren't sold, they were one free transfers, therefore they were not sold and were let go of there contract...

I was absolutely gutted to lose BWP, Euell and Skacel as they personified the 'spirit of Southampton' and were so committed to the club in every way !

Now I am led to believe that we have become a 'selling club' because of this, I am even more horrified !

Surely the new owners should have insisted that we break the bank to keep them even before taking over ??

Whatever can they do next to break our hearts ????

Credit where credit is due......The club has fought tooth and nail to hang onto Top man Anthony Pulis.....Lot of pressure from top clubs to steal him away from the Mighty Saints.:smt027

So true, perhaps they are not totally heartless after all !

I look forward to reading the programme notes about Anthony's adventures on the treatment table throughout the season !

You miss the point it's not about players leaving it's the lack of replacements urgently needed.....
