yellow&blue Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 (edited) Gotta say that considering Neal Trotman had only joined us two days ago, he had a good game today. He won a lot of the aerial balls and he played exactly like a no nonsense defender should do and was just what we needed considering our last couple of games. I still find it strange that we only have him on loan, and worry that if he does well on games then whether Preston would be prepared to sell him? Preston rate him v highly and only wanted him to come here to get games - they want him in their first team. I cannot see them selling unless we're talking 1/2m

He's probably on loan because: a) PNE don't want to sell b) He doesn't want to move to L1 permanently c) We don't want to sign him because there are doubts he is good enough d) All of the above Anyway, we've had players like Davies and Ifil who have performed well and their clubs sold them shortly after. oxfordshire_saint Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 He was a beast in the air but my god, he is awful on the deck! If Pardew can teach the lad to make simple passes and not dive in clumsily in the tackle, he'll be a real star in this team. A few times today he tried to play it long but showed that he clearly doesn't have it in his locker! His physical presence is what we need though, so dominant in the air. I agree, reminded me of Bamby on ice with his control and composure on the deck. Although could well be due to nerves and I'm sure he will grow into his role with confidence. Though just what we need really with his ability in the air.

LeBenali Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 A lot of people around me were criticizing him, but i thought he was excellent in the air, and although his distribution wasn't great, thats what we have players like Morgan etc for infront of him. We've been screaming out for a dominant CB for ages, and at last we have one (allbeit temporarily).
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 23 August, 2009 Share Posted 23 August, 2009 He said in an interview earlier this week that he wasn't a player with subtle touches; he could head a ball and hoof it when necessary. He was right as well. If the ball is in the danger zone he gets rid; no fancy stuff just a good honest brick-outhouse player.
st alex Posted 23 August, 2009 Share Posted 23 August, 2009 reminded me of darren powell, was very good in the air, but looked dodgey at times, can see him conseeding the odd penalty through clumsy challenges, although do think he'll get a little better with a few more games under his belt, and his aeiral ability is what we needed. LostBoys Posted 23 August, 2009 Share Posted 23 August, 2009 I thought he was pretty good for a first game considering he had to watch his right side all the time as James gave no cover at all. He won almost all balls in the air which is what you need in L1.

Wes Tender Posted 23 August, 2009 Share Posted 23 August, 2009 I thought that he made a goodish debut. I was generally impressed with his positioning for set pieces, his aerial domination and how quickly he seemed to fit in alongside Perry. They looked solid together. Laughs at a fan from such a crap club as Brentford never having seen a worse player. Stretching belief somewhat. Was this the only game he's ever been to? He's obviously never seen Wotton play. Racist. ...but seriously, how can you possibly say that? He didn't get beaten in the air once and whilst his distribution wasn't great thats not something i care about particularly. If he can just lump it then thats fine. I remember him making several tackles under pressure where he had the composure to shield the ball back to Davis or at least play a composed clearance, whereas Thomas would no doubt have panicked. I just wish he could have scored that bloody header though!

He is Good, and he is Young .... and not many of those would want to ( in his case) drop down to Div 1 Catch 22 though ...... IF we were riding high come January, and in with a shout of the Play Offs ...... then it may be a different scenario ...... as of course it would have been had we started on a level playing firld with the rest of Div 1 Teams ..... Thedelldays Posted 23 August, 2009 Share Posted 23 August, 2009 good debut how he missed the chance to score only he will know... RonManager Posted 23 August, 2009 Share Posted 23 August, 2009 If ever there was a case of 'splashing the cash' and making Preston an offer they can't refuse this might be it. For a debut , that was one of the best I've seen in a long long time.

Often a loan is to get experience, other times it's one foot out-of-the-door. IF...Preston have a good first half season, and find they don't need him , it maybe easier for him to move. IF.. he fits in well, becomes popular and likes the club (who wouldn't) the prospect of moving back to Preston Reserves may not seem so attractive...and maybe he'd consider staying ..especially if we are doing better. IF.. that is the case ..then a small fee to prise him away from Preston ..wouldn't be a problem - would it Mr. Cortese ? (** Jack Cork and Alan Bennett might have stayed had we been able to bid for them as they liked SMS - then we might still have been in CCC.) NickG Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 listening to his interview thought it sounded very much as though he is in preston's plans and wants to play for them but needs first team games to prove himself. West End Saint Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 I thought he had a great game just the sort of centre back we are looking for big dominant a bit of pace and can also play a bit would be great if we got him permantley also like the fact that AP is trying to get players in with a bit of hieght and physical precence we are going to need it in this league Lambert and Hammond are tall & well built still think we need 1 or 2 to come in and would like to see whoever is going get gone so we can work on some team ethic and get some spirit in the side
Mmm Donuts Posted 24 August, 2009 Share Posted 24 August, 2009 Agree with most on here, thought he had a good game especially in the air and pushing Cort off the ball. He needs to be shown how to pass the ball long range or give it to a midfielder. James can pass a ball but why did he get nutmegged a couple of times?
