Survival my arse

we have spent more money than a fair few in this league will spend in the next 5 years...im sure we will spend more..

add that to the decent players we have already (kelvin, sagga)

we have had enough of our own pre-season before the stockport game (pardew stated this before you shout me down)

not good enough...simple as that

just aiming for survival is so typically saints...I thought we should be doing better and to be fair, against a team that are in a bigger mess than us...we should be winning..

great...said that last year..

We are clearly rebuilding the club. You wouldn't have posted this if Davis had saved their pen and we won so just shows what a knee jerk reaction it is.

Yes we havent started brilliantly but we will improve. Our pre season was so disrupted.

If we are still minus points in a month time come and repeat this but for the moment it is crap. Get out and do something tonight to cheer yourself up.

but davis did not save their penalty so it matters not...

why do I have to be patient...most other clubs when they have great facitlites, good manager and spend money that probably the 90% at least would utterly dream about..seriously, how much will stockport, swindon wycombe, brighton spend in the next 5 years..I will be amazed if all of them spend as much as us in that time than what we have this season..

many teams in this league simply only get loans and frees...

sorry if I dont take this 'patient' stance right now...

When I saw the thread title I had to have a looksee.....but I misread it. I thought it said "Surving my arse..." and I thought TDD was telling us all what to do to survive if he dropped his guts while in our general vicinity. I am very disappointed :(

Fair enough being impatient, but thinking rationally , how would you change anything that has occurred so far since AP took over?.........what is your suggestion for magically transforming a systematic losing team that has had a close season of doubt and worry into League 1 leaders?.........life isn't like that........it takes time..... and the more those who are "impatient" start to take that onboard, the less their blood pressure will be harmed!

Just out of interest at what point does ML and NC say "enough is enough, Pardew you're kak" and bring in someone else?

I think below 6 points from Septembers 5 games and it's P45 time for Pardew.

Remember Rome was not built in a day

We were left with a complete shell of our former club by that **** Lowe so lets take the chance to rebuild a far better club.

Give it time

Yeah, right, Pardew out. He took over a top-class squad, managed to off-load the worst performenrs and then come up with this load of $h!te. Pardew out!

Or, more realistically, he inherited a totally Crap squad, the best left and he has to start form there. having wathced a few games this season i reckoon we are streets ahead of a month ago.

So to all the moanng pardew-outers, **** the **** up and make some sort of comments based on (a) observation (b) common sense and (c0 some sort of realism

Lets blame Lowe shall we. -10 or not, 3 pts from 5 games is dump and relegation form.

We have no pace anywhere, this is surely a problem

We have good players, but not a good team

AP needs to put up or shut up, over half the team he bought in, and the rest are decent players. A bit of consistency in line-ups would be ideal and help out a lot.

I agree with the fact that we shouldn't be aiming for survival - we're better than that, and the signing of Lambert suggests the ambition of the board/management to be slightly better than that also.

Today is ****ing frustrating, make no doubt about it, i expected us to be much nearer, if not on 0 points by now - so this is a horrific start to an already horrific situation.

I'm still confident that once we get that 1 win...they will start rolling in. At least today we aren't in the position of saying ''Stockport outplayed us..'' etc - we sounded like a cut above them and in all honesty we should have scored that 2nd.

Frustrating yes - but even after this horrific start, we should still be aiming as a club and as fans, higher than ''survival''.

DD you think Saga is class.Well he is playing and has yet to score in a league that 'he would score for fun in' Is that Pardews fault?

I had only thought we'd go for safety and would at this time take it like a shot.

Charlton finished last season on a good run and have carried that form on. We have been decimated and i think we are improving.Things will turn when we do get a forward who can score in this league alongside Lambert.

Rasiak has gone and that will free up some funds, get Saga gone as well and we will be fine.

I keep seeing Thedelldays posting on here and honestly cannot remember a single cheerful, encouraging or positive comment that he has ever made! Constructive criticism would be acceptable, but constant moaning and whinging is just irritating! Mate, we are all majorly fed up both with today's result and how the season has started but try and take the positives out of things - AP is building his own team in an efficient financial manner (ie without going out and spending millions on player after player) and I believe that in our last two games against Brum and Stockport we have seen consistent improvement. Our first win is just around the corner and could well spell a long run of good form. Cmon man we all need to trust AP and the owner as I believe that, although mid-table is probably all we will achieve this season, they are going to build a very good squad here at Saints which should see promotion achieved next season. We just have to have a bit of patience as it's clear that the not-so-distant future is bright, and it's red and white!

I agree with this.

Its a totally different management set-up, most of the players have changed, and the back-room staff have changed, but its still the same old lack-of-ambition sh*t being served up.

WHY ???

it is typically saints to look forward and hope it will all come good, gray sturrock, wiggers, dutch clowns etc, and each time " in name we trust, or he'll get it right etc

B0llocks, we deserve more, AP should perform more. If i started a job and was achieving this little after this amount of time i would expect to have done much better

Not convinced at all, and strangely seem to agree a lot with TDD

I guarantee you that next season everyone within the club will be aiming for automatic promotion.

Our club is f*cked, it will take more than a month to heal it.

AP-

Tactically, the jury is out

No idea of his best X1

Said we need experience and stability in the team, then signs nippers on loan. WTF

He's signed one "nipper" and one young centre back, who is much better than our other centre backs, along with some experienced players.

The level of spoilt, narrow-minded stupidity on here beggars belief sometimes.

PS - the only team who would have made the play-offs, had ten points been deducted last year were Leicester.

Did anyone really think we would do as well as them this season?

Are you not aware of the complete shambles the previous management left behind?

Did you not read Pardew's article on the scouting disarray?

Did you miss the disruption caused to pre-season?

Have you not noticed how teams celebrate a point at SMS as though they've just won the league?

Can you not see we have much better players than most other teams?

We will be fine but promotion is and was a retarded expectation.

Delldays, I can see your point but if you are hinting at yet another managerial change then you are deluded. Someone else to come in would want to bring their own staff and players and that means more time to 'gel' which in our position would be suicidal.

Pardew is the best man for the job, in our position he is the best we could of possibly hoped for. People are still mentioning Strachan and Keegan but forget it, it ainit going to happen.

A couple of quick points. Charlton finished below us last year and have now won their first 5 league games - is their squad much better than ours?

We started this season 10 points from safety, we're now 11 adrift of 5th bottom. Not exactly progress. I'm trying to keep the faith but if this last stat hasn't improved by the end of September then we are in deep trouble.

Charlton had a pre-season and have a momentum.

We weren't in a position to just kick into the season and start winning unfortunately.

Charlton kept their manager, almost the entire squad and have carried on the good momentum they had at the end of last season.

On form for the last 15 games last year, Charlton i believe finished 11th and we finsihed 22nd - i think that tells you all you need to know.

I know it's frustrating when we see teams up there winning and winning but i just wish we could show some patience, it's obvious that we're 'trying' to move in the right direction (in all areas of the club) but it isn't going to happen over night.

I fully expect us to bring in a couple of players by the deadline and once we get our first win and get to -4, things will start to look a little better. - not great...but better.

Leeds made the play-offs from -10, and FYI, i wasn't saying we should be top 6, but we should have more than 3pts to show from those 5 games

If we have 'much better players than most teams' why would we still be bottom 3 even without the -10?

The amount of people happy to settle on ere beggars belief sometimes

I actually can't believe the negativity on here tonight!! i just hope these whingers are nowhere near the club in three years time when we are a force again! you support a club in good times and bad, i feel that the good times are just round the corner. some supposed fans don't deserve a club to support! IMHO, in AP, NC, ML I definitely trust!!!

the whole 'in ..... i/we trust' thing gets me as well, er why do you trust them? Cos ML has money? Has NC done this kinda thing before? Has AP started in a fashion that fills you with confidence?

Saints fans seem happy to settle

sodding whingers!!

realism and patience - why can't you all see that the club has had many years of having the heart torn out of it from the inside, it's gonna take a while to get back on track

A succeful club is not just a good manager and football team

A certain Mr Ferguson was given time...............

Because Pardew has a good record.

Because what he says makes sense to me.

Because he has made a few signings and I am very happy with all of them bar one who the jury is out on.

Because we are improving.

Because the ****e from last year is slowly being wiped off.

Because the footballing infrastructure is being rebuilt.

Because we have better players than most teams but still have a bit of work to do in a couple of areas.

We'd have all loved to have got off to a better start, but it can't get away from the fact that the club was stripped to a shell over the summer (and the past year) and it's going to take time to put a structure back in place.

Look at the state of our scouting system for e.g. - Pard's has gone straight out and sorted it, i don't think another club in L1 has such an extensive scouting system as us. (exclusive to us too). It'll take a few weeks before we see how that is bearing fruit.

I can just see from where im sitting that the foundations are being laid, the guys running the show are efficient and pro-active. They want success as much as all of us but i hope they also realise that it's going to take longer than a couple of months to sort this shambles of a football club out.

We don't have time

We are 11pts from safety and yet to win a game

Yeah ok, lets hit the panic button and sack everyone, we've shed loads of games and comments and discussion like these are due later on in the year when the pressure is truley mounting and I'll be here banging the drum as you are but not now

Good to see that the usual suspects are once again showing thier true colours. It was always likely though, with the weight of -10 around our necks, a poor start was always going to make the 'less stable' start to waiver in thier support. I only hope that ML has more nerve than some of our fans appear to possess.

I really don't think that we are only aiming for safety at all - it's just that currently, we are not 'hitting' where we are aiming - and we need tweaking. Once AP and his staff get that tweaking sorted - I'm sure results will follow.

Correct me if I am wrong - at the beginning of this bright new era it was mooted that the current owner and management were working on a 5 year plan and not a 5 game plan?

Was relegation part of that plan you reckon?

Maybe it is just to easy to be negative at the moment
