That is because, unfortunatly, the majority of our fans are 'happy clappers' who wear face paint etc. Teams like Stoke have a support largely made up of young-ish men, whereas Saints has been marketed as a 'Family Club' for years and hence kills any potential decent support as there are far too many middle class people there who just 'don't get it'. You can spot them a mile off: They are the ones who take in a full weeks worth of shopping in a Tesco's bag and scoff their way through it during the 90 mins. I'm not against families at football by any stretch of the imagination, but some of them just arn't 'football people'.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 22 November, 2009 Share Posted 22 November, 2009 Stoke fans are passionate and give and demand 100% from the team. Read a few threads on here and you will notice our fans are more "im happy just to stay up" types that prefer to mime rather than sing there hearts out. p.s Spurs 9 Wigan 1 WTF!!! Seriously. Also, how does a particular colour of paint on someones face affect the noise level which comes from their mouth? Pray tell. Far to many of our 'songs' involve clapping, and looking around a lot of people seem to do that without singing. there is no "st marys roar" We don't really have the right type of fans to create good atmosphere. I've said it before, Spurs sing "oh when the spurs" much much better than we sing our version, leave out the clapping and slow it down.

'Oh when the Saints' is much better sung at normal speed than that slow, droany version which everyone speeds up at different times anyway which makes it sound pants with people singing all over the place, and 'Hello, hello' wouldn't make the top four which you seem to suggest, I don't think. How about 'Red and White' or 'We love Southampton, we do' or 'Southampton til I die'? They hardly make guest appearances - they are sung at every home game! Agree When we were in the Prem and at home, I thought the atmosphere was very good and very loud. Obviously it isn't the same now but to an extent the amount of singing is led by the team. If the team is playing pulsating stuff then there will be much more of an atmosphere. But against Brighton there was nothing for us to get up for in the Northam, so the amount of singing wasn't great. However, for example, this season against Bristol Rovers at home I think the singing was fantastic. If we continue to play well, and move up the leagues, then the singing will keep on improving. Sour Mash Posted 23 November, 2009 Share Posted 23 November, 2009 While our support is better than a lot of teams, there is still massive room for improvement. Anyone who remembers blocks 3, 4 and 5 in the Archers Road before we moved or the Northam for the first few seasons at SMS will know that the Northam is currently a pale imitation of the atmosphere, noise and wit previously enjoyed. The rest of the ground is dead, completely lifeless. Combine that with the fact that a fair few other teams sing "our" song a lot better than us.
