10 away games without defeat

We have won Leagues, come 2nd and 3rd in the past. I'm sure it has been bettered at some point in the last 124 years.

But this is Saints dough right? Without looking a the stats I would presume this is a record; so I'll have 1 more beer before I turn in. xxx Cheers.

Ummm .... I was in the UK for the 1st 3 games and went to Huddersfield (could have been 8-1 to them :() and Stockport (should have been 6-1 to us ) . Since I've been back in Dubai they have been unbeaten away from home although scarily i watched the Brighton home game on computer which of course we lost

Be warned I get back in time for a trip to Leeds ... oh dear ;)

PS thanks for given me a very loud LOL ...

mmmm, not sure that we have ( MLG.)

True we had a good runs of form when we topped the Div.1 table .and those years when we won promotion(s) but he's talking AWAY form, and he maybe right .

No time to check now, but will come back on it if no-one else does first .

Actually that makes quite stunning reading...

Despite a sticky, awkward start we've registered 20 goals in the last 7 away games. Now that is absolutely amazing, for any league..

Growing up as a saints fan in the late 60's we were always hard to beat at home and easy to beat away from home. Ted Bates sorted that by signing Big John McGrath and we picked up away points to such an extent that we made it into Europe. We have been notoriously bad travellers over the years so it is great to see us winning and scoring loads away right now.

A reply from Gary Chalk, via David Bull, via Saintslist, about whether being unbeaten in 10 away from home is a record:

If you include FAC matches then 1949/50 was also 10 on the spin (9 Lge + 1 FAC). Season 1902-03 was 11 on the spin (10 Lge+ 1 FAC).

If you remove the FAC matches our total stands at 8 lge away games without

defeat.

The 1949-50 figure is 9

the 1896-7 figure is 10

the 1902-03 figure is 15 (5 Apr 1902 to 4 Apr 1903)

So a positive result at Leeds would equal a FL club record.

No pressure there then... lol!

Form the Saints List

According to Gary Chalk, our record unbeated away runs are as follows

ON THE SPIN" the answer to that is no. If you include FAC matches then 1949/ 50 was also 10 on the spin (9 Lge + 1 FAC). Season 1902-03 was 11 on the spin (10 Lge+ 1 FAC).

I also think we went 8 games in league without defeat on our 1977/78 promotion season , following the battle of Ewood Park game when Ossie (in his last ever game for us, and Steve Williams were both sent off thanks to John Bailey)

Those 8 games, if I'm right were as follows

Oldham D 1-1

Spurs D 0-0

Blackpool W1 -0

Charlton W 3-1

Brighton D 1-1

Mansfield W 2-1

Burnley D 3-3

Bolton D 0-0

You've missed out the 0-0 draw at Sunderland on the 4th march (one of the coldest days I ever saw Saints) which makes it 9.

I went to 3 of those ... Brighton, Burnley and Bolton and didn't go to the Cardiff game that ended the run so there is hope yet for our current run ;)

And I'm liking the Promotion Season connection very much !!!

Interestingly our home and away records this season are almost identical:

W D L F A Pts

Home: 4 4 2 17 12 16

Away: 4 4 2 18 13 16

During the game on Saturday our home and away records were identical, but we messed that up by scoring a 3rd and failing to keep a clean sheet.
