Exeter Build Up

I went down last Tuesday to move my ST seat and get my Dad and ticket so we could get two together.

There wasn't any space in the Northam and I had to go all the way down to block 10 of the Itchen back row to get two together as the Itchen was almost full.

Reckon a lot of people will get bored of their families on christmas day and decide to walk up for this one and fill up the ground. Incredible in the space of a year we can go from only selling out to United in the cup to selling out a run of the mill home game like Exeter.

I know Bluestar are running buses, but what about First Group? Anyone know?

*EDIT

No, no they're not :( Nice 2 hour walk for me Boxing Day then from Botley Road, Sholing all the way to Bedfords in Bedford Place :(

you can get a cab if you wanted to.

anyone coming down from London, greyhound and national express are both running a decent service. I got a return for £2.50

Mappy says you can do it in 1hr 49 minutes.

I would have though that 4.5 miles could be covered in about 1hr 15 myself.

Sends you down Denzil Avenue as well, perhaps you might get a christmas freebee from some tasty tart or other.

So make that 3hrs 15 then.

I'll be going via Pompey Road, Woolston, over the Itchen Bridge, through St Marys up to Bedford Place.

It's not been mentioned so far but Flybe sponsor both clubs so it seems likely they'll be doing some special stuff on the day, Great Christmas Giveaway, although you still get to pay the airport taxes?

On the downside it is rather sad that so many "can't wait for Saturday"... !

Whatever happened to the excitement of Christmas?

What time you going? I could try to get you a lift. Say hello to the blonde barlady at bedfords if she is there. Called Tamsin.

Christmas is for kids, what else has it to recommend itself? ¨Pub closed in the evening, you have to put up with the ma in law all day and you get crap presents (if you get any at all) other than that it's an overblown commercial hype, Boxing day is about football

Really looking forward to the day. Have moved my ticket further up the Kingsland towards the Northam so I can sit with my two sons and daughters fiance. We'll be having a few drinks on the way through and then some on the way home too that's for sure. If we win - not banking on it TBH - it will make it a sweet day indeed. Score will most likely be 2-1 Saints, BUT I feel we are due to hand out a complete drubbing to some poor unsuspecting team - it might be Exeter.

I shall be working, I'm one of those "indispensable" sort of people who's rota includes high days and holidays.I like Christmas but it's different here, I've never really adapted to the 6 hour midnight blowout that they call "Reveillon" nor the utter crap that gets put on TV on Christmas Day because everyone is sleeping off all the excess food from the day before.

If I could return to England for Christmas it would be different though.Unfortunately duty calls.

Nothing exciting happens in France at Christmas, no sport, no nothing, just a lot of food and awful relatives.

I'd advise getting one that gets you to Southampton as early as possible, if the weather is as bad as it is today, as I am currently stuck in a huge traffic jam in London on a coach that is supposed to arrive in Southampton in 20 minutes.

Hopefully the benefit of the Brighton result will be that we never take a single game for granted this season. This is gonna be a very tough game, make no mistake.

We expect to win

We don't expect to concede and i'm not sure how we'll handle it.

We've got a big crowd who expect an easy win

We've just been defeated after a long winning run which could shake us up

Pressures on lads, nows the time you're gonna be tested.

For £2.50 who are you going with? Greyhound? National Express is quoting me £20.

greyhound mate, booked it a few weeks back with no trains running thought id give it a try, tubes seem to be running and dont want to miss this if we have 30k there.

Just booked my tickets online for this. I let the missus choose my seats because she's offered to escort me to St Marys, despite being a Canary. She chose the Chapel, block 20. Sigh. Still, It's somewhere new. I've now gone from Kingsland North, to Kingsland South, to Chapel. Itchin and Northam watch out. :-D

Tougher game than it looks on paper this one, but I still think we can win this. As mentioned before, the Brighton game will have taught the players not to take things for granted, besides which, if the Leeds game is to become irrelevant in the grand scheme of things this season, we can accept nothing less than a win.

Looking forward to this one, I'm hoping to be in the Megastore before and after the game spending some of my hard earned Christmas Present Cash.

Cortese seems to think a sell-out is possible...would be bloody amazing to see SMS full again. We ought to win it comfortably, then can move on to Colchester in good spirits to get back to winning ways on the road again. By the time 'uddersfield come to SMS we might have another couple of players on our books. Good times!

I am really looking to forward to this game as I am taking my 6 year old son who has decided to support his dads team! Also I have bought him his first Saints shirt for xmas which he will be wearing to the game, its got his name and a number on the back! Should be a great atmosphere if we have 25,000 + there.

Just got in' date=' at 23:30, on a coach that was meant to arrive at 19:45, so again if the weather is bad, I'd strongly advise aiming for the earliest coach possible.[/quote']

The forecast between now and Saturday is ok, and especially on the day of the game, so I am very confident we will be ok. Greyhound 10.45 from Victoria arrives Soton City Centre 12.45 so there is some spare time just incase, way back 18.10.

Can get a return on Greyhound still for £14 not bad considering. http://www.greyhounduk.com

Sunday service on the tubes so anyone is London should be able to get to Victoria ok.

Temperatures are forecast to improve considerably over the next few days - up to 8-10 degrees for Saturday so I can't see it being a problem.

Assuming the Colchester game goes ahead, do you think it's worth resting the likes of Connolly, Hammond etc. on Boxing Day? I'd prefer them fresh for the Colchester game which is a biggy against a play-off rival, only 48 hrs after Exeter. That said, wouldn't want to come unstuck against Exeter if we left some regulars out...

Colchester is potentially a huge game, but we can't underestimate Exeter too. This game will be a slog, with the cold weather and rough'n'tuff attitude of Exeter. We should keep key players like Lambert, Hammond etc in the team but maybe rest others such as Waigo and Harding.

In my opinion we should line up like:

------------Bart-------------

Thomas--Jaidi--Trotman--Mills

------Morgan---Hammond----

Antonio----------------Holmes

-----Lambert---Patterson-----

Subs: Davis, Perry, Wotton, Mellis, Saga

That team is more than capable of getting 3 points, and we'd still have players like James, Connolly, Lallana and Harding 100% fit, who are all potentially match winners on the day. We should place the emphasis on the Colchester game, but I think we should also regard the Exeter game as important, as any points dropped could be potentially disastrous for our play-off hopes.

We would lose.

Put simply - no. Far better to play as many regulars in the first team as often as possible IMO. Each and every game is another learning exercise and a chance for the lads to bond on the pitch in front of a home crowd. Even at this level they're supposed to be pro's with some stamina - also Colchester may even be off due to weather.

There is a much bigger threat IMO to the team from the crowd going silent if we go one down to a sloppy goal. All the stay-aways returning for the family Boxing day out will be thinking "ah, so nothing has changed then". The Northam crowd need to get behind the team the whole game and show the rest of the stadium how its done - conversely if the Northam is silent and biting their nails, the rest of the stadium follows suit.
