Worst SFC team of the decade

Not using any players out of position (e.g. Hajto or Delap at RB):

GK: Forecast

RB: Makin

CB: Powell

CB: Davenport

LB: O'Halloran

RM: James

CM: Wright

CM: Pulis

LM: McCann

ST: Euell

ST: Pericard

It was very hard to leave out Lancashire, Molyneux, Wotton, Pekhart, Robertson, Gasmi and Bernard. Also I wanted to put Powell in at CB twice, but I think that's against the rules.

Well you fail then, Makin was a left back and James is a central midfielder.

Must be the worst out the worst. Well, I don't it can get even worse than this team. Not sure what can this team achieve in L2 or Blue Sqaure Premiership.

I'd disagree with a few of them. Smith was a decent 'keeper and saved our arses against Spuds and Arse in the Prem. Burley didn't rate him and brought Bart in, but that doesn't make Smith crap IMO. Hajto was dodgy, but out of possition all the time at RB. He showed he could be a half decent CB when he came back to SMS with Derby. Bennett had a howler of a debut, but really was thrown in at the deep end. After that he was pretty decent. 100 times better than Powell. Fuller didn't have the greatest spell of his career here, but was our top scorer in his only season. Wasn't that bad.

Melis is a decent player and its harsh to write off Thomson and Gobern after so few performances. As for White before his injury Chelsea and Arsenal were looking at him and he has played 3 times for the club so its a bit early do declare him rubbish.

GK: Stensgaard

LB: Todd

CB: Almeida

CB: Davenport

RB: Nillson (sp?)

LM: Kanchelskis

CM: Pulis

CM: Prutton

RM: Delap

CF: Rosler

CF: Robertson

Subs: Miller, Pekhart, Bernard, Gasmi, Molyneux, Powell, Pericard

TBF Todd only 'played' for us 10 times between 97-98 so he doesn't count. He is, however, the worst player I have ever seen in a Saints shirt.....comfortably (I include Ali Dia in that). What makes it worse is Jones spunked £850k on him. Ouch.

Not quite sure how you can include Fuller on this thread. I'd cut my right nut off to have him in our side now!

He was given a hard time by our fans, just because he used to play for Pompey, which in turn dented his confidence hugely - pretty pathetic really.

Just highlighted the current International team members for you there. Not even sure that Man Utd fans could name a decade's worst XI with three full internationals in it..

Ironically, you could actually put out a half decent side from the players in that photo.

Davis

Thomas - Killer - Davis - Perry

Dyer - Morgan - Surman - Skacel

Rasiak - DMG

It was undeniably the worst team of the decade though.

van Damme may be an international now and may have been then, but for Saints he was absolute ****, and I for one am very pleased that soppy old sod remembered him. I was beginning to despair that one of the worst players and nastiest pieces of work to ever don the red and white had almost been forgotten. As far as I can tell he is also no longer playing for Belgium - last appearance in 2008/09 season. Maybe even the Belgians have finally realised he is cack.

Think it was a bit harsh to name Best though Soppy, poor lad seems to be forever hated because of his penalty miss, when most people realise he should never have been put in that position by our senior pros.

I thought Makin claimed to play on either side of defence, but prefered LB because he was left footed. Whether you count that as 'out of possition' I don't know. If you don't like it, then stick Kenton in there.

James, I'd have said was more of a utility man midfielder, who can fill in at CM or RM. Again, if you don't like it, put Thomson in there.
