Andy_Porter Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 Agreed with Lambert, easily the most effective player in the league and we don't really have any cover for him. Hopefully Pardew has someone lined up for January, Saganowski out with another 6ft+ striker in would be ideal. Hammond, Jaidi and Lallana would all be missed as well, but we at least have some sort of cover for those areas.
West End Saint Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 Lambert without a doubt his goals hold up link up play & the way he leads the line he is immense and if he was out for anymore than a couple of games it would cost us. He has been a fantastic signing fingers crossed we keep him fit I hope AP buys a target man in Jan to help share the work load & a right back to cover Murty
Foxstone Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 Lambert without any doubt at all! For all the reasons mentioned in the post above but also because he can take a feckin good free kick from anywhere within 30 yards of goal.

itchen_dan Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 Hammond has been magnificent for us this season and really has toughened up the midfield and he and Schneiderlin have formed a great pairing in there and they both know their own roles in the team. up and away Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 Hammond has been magnificent for us this season and really has toughened up the midfield and he and Schneiderlin have formed a great pairing in there and they both know their own roles in the team. It has to be Hammond, although trailing Lambert and Connolly individually, these two cannot function without a midfield supplying them or supporting the defence. There have been a few times where Hammond has been off the boil, notably when there has been two games in a week and the effect of this can be clearly seen. Without Hammond doing his job well, Lambert and Connolly really struggle to do their job. Morgan is important in the midfield, but the lions share of that goes down to Hammond. Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 Lambert for me as well, but i also think Morgan offers us alot more than we realise and we did miss him against Leeds. People never quite realised how much Xabi Alonso did for Liverpool until now either - similar players imo, especially when in a 4-5-1 formation. wightman35 Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 (edited) teamwork. Like the message at Staplewood implies, "teamwork." You are right in one way, but I'd agree with those who reckon that currently, Lambert is the key figure whose absence would be the most devastating. CitySaint Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 Schneiderlin in this division. Lost without him at Leeds, has the ability to hold on to the ball better than the rest of the squad.

TheSaint75 Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 I also think Schneiderlin gives us alot in midfield, he has more creativity than Hammond but Hammond does the simple stuff very well hence we are a better side with the pair. Matthew Le God Posted 24 December, 2009 Share Posted 24 December, 2009 (edited) Can't believe nobody has mentioned Harding, agreed on Lambert, but if Harding is injured we have a gapping hole at LB The question was "most important". Dan Harding can be replaced by Joseph Mills who has proven he can cope at this level helping S****horpe get promoted last season from League One. Lambert is clearly the most important player at the moment. Schneiderlin, Lallana, Hammond, Jaidi, Harding, Davis and Connolly are also important but Lambert is the main goal threat and hardest to replace. I said I agree with Lambert being the most important, purely for his goals and hold up play but we still have Conolly up front if he is injured which will still give us a potent striker, we would just need to change our tactics to suit. No a goalkeeper prevents us from losing unless like Shilton he scores a goal, if the strikers does not score we don't win regardless how well the goalkeeper plays. In a penalty shootout he still prevents us from losing the striker has to put the ball in the net for us to win

Turkish Posted 25 December, 2009 Share Posted 25 December, 2009 undoubtably Lambert, not just for his goals but our whole game plan revolves around him, when he plays well so do we. He's had two pretty poor games so far this season, Norwich ain the JPT and Brighton, the teams performance was poor in both too, speaks for itself. TheSaint75 Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Mills has proven himself in a promoted League One team - what does he have to do? Prove it playing for Saints will do - so far for me he hasn't. Does that make me wrong, as you don't agree? Personally I think he pretty much lost us the Brizzel Rovers game single handed due to not having a f'in clue where he was supposed to be positionally, I know he wasn't playing LB but clueless sprang to mind. david in sweden Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 (edited) what player would do the most damage to us if he was out with injury long term or was sold in jan.. IMO, Lambert...if the above happened then I think will kiss good bye to our playoff chances there and then There's two questions here... Q1 the headline asks who is our most important player just now? My answer to that is Bart. We know that KD is a class act, but Bart has only been on the losing side once in 7 starts, and everyone says that Leeds a goal was a bit special. Bart was a bit green at 18 but he's matured and needs more games behind him if he is going to be a likely successor to KD in a year or two when we move up to CCC. It would be nice to have two good keepers to choosed from in a higher division. Q2 - someone being sold ..or long term injury...? Probably- Jaidi ..or Lambert.. as they are both key figures in thier own part of the team. Lambert CAN'T be sold in january - even if he wanted to go, but why should he - 'cos FA rules don't allow anyone to play for 3 clubs in the same season. Jaidi is the solid central figure we've been lacking for the last few seasons. Interestingly I was pleasantly surprised to see Aaron Martin on the bench yesterday. He wouldn't have been a likely sub. IMO but IF Trotman goes we need a bright new name to fit in next to Jaidi, and he'd do best coming in to a relatively-strong defence and not as a stop-gap in a leaky one. St Landrew Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 Lmbert! Easy! But obviously not so easy for you..! They're ALL bloody important, but whether he scores or not, L[a]mbert is a player who, if left out for any reason, would leave a gap which no other player would be able to fill.
