Fergie Posted 11 January, 2010 Share Posted 11 January, 2010 Maybe the club told them to take it off!? I have info that the deal is going through but don't wanna say more than that...so get excited guys. Only stumbling block at the moment is agreeing the fee with Doncaster and the possibility that he might fail his medical...as far as i'm told everything else has been sorted already! dockland Dave Posted 11 January, 2010 Share Posted 11 January, 2010 I have just been on the Doncaster Rovers BBC 606 site to see if there were any rumours concerning the BS transfer, and I have to say that squirmed with embarrassment of the arrogant attitude of some of the Saints posters. Can someone please explain to them that having the countries 4th richest owner does not equate to being the 4th richest club, ask Everton and Watford fans about their mega rich owners. Doncaster Rovers are a great little club, play football the way it is meant to, manage to balance their books and are a league above us on merit. Their fans must think are lot are an arrogant punch of idiots. For the majority of the 30 years I have supported the saints many fans of other teams I have met have professed a soft spot for us, whether it was because of Le Tiss, Keegan or the fact we defied all expectations and managed to hold onto our top flight position year after year. We are a Div 1 team on merit and its only 6 months since we almost went under. I would hate to think of other fans disliking us in the same way as I have disliked the arrogance of Man Utd, Spurs et al . Pilchards Posted 11 January, 2010 Share Posted 11 January, 2010 The reason why it's gone is because it's something that was said which could put the deal in doubt if any of the clubs involved heard about it. Sorry folks rant over, Totally agree I hate this new found arrogance we have to remember how lucky we are to be in this position and that we were the ones who had our talent poached from us from more 'arrogant' and richer clubs. I feel sorry for Doncaster fans losing one of there best players if it goes through to a team in the division below. How would we feel if Andrew Surman had gone to Huddersfield or something last season? Slightly annoyed to say the least. And we shouldn't be shouting from the rooftops that we have money either, we have to let the club get on with it in a proffesional manner and not make teams want to increase the price (aka) Man City everytime we bid for any player, it's better to go about quietly unnoticed lets remember we're mid-table in league one. I was also embarrassed by the comments of a knob posting on a Palace forum over the signing of Fonte."We'll be in the prem in 3 years...you'll be in administration blah , blah..". Having lived through Saints nearly disapearing I don't think administration of another club is something to gloat over (possibly with one exception of course, but even then there are limits !). The responding Palace fan then launched into a halfbaked 'f'in scummers ' type of post.I know Palace fans can seem like a jumped up bunch of spastics sometimes, basking in the fact they are or think they are a team from the capital, but even so I thought the Saints fan posting there was damaging the image of the club and its fans. Like you I remember how we were always a popular club for the way we were run -in pre Lowe days - and more importantly for being relatively successful by doing things the right way. I've just read on another forum that as well as the Stock thread being removed, certain posts from the Benali thread have also been deleted. I'm assuming this is on instruction from the club. The9 Posted 11 January, 2010 Share Posted 11 January, 2010 I'd be more inclined to believe the fans of this club running the website don't want to prevent any of these transfers from occurring due to this kind of leak, rather than any pressure. Maybe, but there is nothing wrong with keeping things quiet until they are confirmed. Especially if any 'leaks' could prevent something beneficial to the club from occuring. Cortese is a pro, maybe a control freak but certainly a pro. The football club is not a democracy, it's a dictatorship (albeit a seemingly benevolent one this time) and for us to quibble about such things when they saved us from oblivion and are investing vast sums so we can progress would be foolish. With this and the petulant behaviour to the Echo and Benali it looks like Nicky Cortese has more in common with a certain ruddy faced duck hunter than we thought! Be fair mate, he's probably trying hard to sign a player that can make a big difference to our promotion campaign and if anything appears on here (for all the world to see) that could endanger the deal, what is he supposed to do? Rumours on this page these days often get very speculative with talk of personal issues, family life, salary and so on. It's not hard to imagine that such public talk about personal lives could create problems on occasion. In any case, as far as we know the club may have asked the mods to remove some threads for a while and they said "Yes certainly". Where's the problem? As for The Echo - well most fans on here seem to think they had it coming. The Benali story we only have peripheral knowledge of. Cortese has done a great job at the club so far, let's not start running him down based on rumour and assumptions.

As an aside, this brings the very interesting question about whether or not fans message boards should be censoring posts they see fit to be not in the best interests of the club, whether for fear or scuppering a transfer or another reason. Personally I would argue that the whole point of this type of web site is to get a bit ahead of the game and discover transfer news, etc before it becomes widely knowledged. If this wasn't the case then we would all be happy to just log on the OS and find out about a new player when he is doing the obligatory shirt photo. I really don't think it is a good idea for an independent web site to feel it has to protect a piece of news getting out, especially if the reason it has got out is down to the stupidity of the person concerned! Just because something was out there, doesn't mean it is right for it to stay out there. Of course it being 'right' or 'wrong' is a judgement call but that's my opinion. IMO the mods have done exactly the right thing. Better safe than sorry and not let this site get involved. The ultimate responsibility of course lies with the person who took the screen shot and then decided to post it up, and they can of course post it anywhere that their conscience allows them to, but if it was me, I would consider it a betrayal of trust if I posted a private message up for all to see. Yeah but what you have to appreciate is that this forum is run by a ltd company now, and if any posts appear which could be deemed libellous then the company could find themselves with a lawsuit on their hands for allowing such content to be posted. As with any internet forum, it is down to the administrators' discretion as to what posts they allow and what posts they delete. There's nothing wrong with the fans speculating about transfers etc..., but if that talk could then become potentially damaging to the club, and land the owners of the site in a lot of hot water, then I believe they are perfectly correct to delete/censor whatever they wish. However, as it is on at least two major football forums, and is being widely discussed, is easily found on google, is not offensive or libelous - I do think the mods are being ott in stopping it being discussed on a saints forum.
