the transfer that never was...

.or so it seems.

After over 400 posts and almost 20,000 visits to the thread.

There never was a deal on for Stock. O'Driscoll sounds pretty pi**ed off that the story may be unsettling his team and the player may think the club is trying to sell him behind his back  and Pardew though asked - has never even hinted that he wanted, or has even bid for the player, or even wants to.

A report on one site said Saints had a offer of 800K rejected by Donnies. and the clubs couldn't agree on a valuation.

Either O'Driscoll and Pardew are the world's best poker players, or such items as this should never have seen the light of day. Now every former-player, or discarded Academy lad will be tipped to return to their "spiritual home " when in fact, most of them weren't even born in the county.

I don't normally lose my cool but this type of time-wasting theads that doesn't even amount to... a sniff of a rumour, really gets up my craw.

Some people must feel good to spread such groundless rubbish but I think it's just plain stupid.

Is there anywhere in the football world where people value the TRUTH ?

I obviously didn't here that ..what EXACTLY did he say ?

.or what words did the reporter put in his mouth?

Reporter didn't put any words in his mouth.

Pardew said he is interested in Stock and that Saints and Doncaster's valuations of Stock are still some way apart. I think Stock will be at Saints by the end of the window.

O'Driscoll has said that no-one has talked to him about Stock and that the press should talk to him or Pardew, not realising that Pardew had at that point already given an interview to the BBC. It would seem O'Driscoll is either lying or the talking has gone on above his head without his knowledge.

Are you going to retract the opening post now? ;)

I thought I heard AP say on Solent that "we could not match Doncasters valuation for Stock who is their captain and best player". Sounds as though he rates him to me !

That's exactly what I heard too, but was he merely commenting on the fact that Stock is their best / most valuable player and that we would not be willing to pay such a high price, or his way of avoiding the question about a bid?.

O'Driscoll is quoted on several sites as saying that they've had no offers / discussions - but does that also mean they've had no enquiries ? He is quoted on SSN and BBC Sheffield interview saying" he has had no dicussions or enquiries, and the whole thing is a ruse from the newspapers who want to sell copies "

either way, its a long way from our own local Echo's assertion that we bid £800K and Donnie refused it !

I guess you didn't find the Taking Stock headline on the OS funny either?

Actually I thought the headline was hunourous, and up to the normal standard of humour we get on the site, HOWEVER

I may be in the minority, but reading throught the other 435 posts on that thread, I think a few more people are pretty pi**ed, too

Personally, I don't care if we sign him or not. There must be other players who could do equally well / better. Just the whole mad circus seems ridiculous to me. Like everyone else I have to replace my F5 key more often and it's ...annoying !

Wouldn't it be nice to get some REAL facts sometime ?

Seems quite clear to me, Pardew and O'Driscoll have not been involved, but Cortese made an enquiry to the Donny Chief Exec (or whatever his title is) to make an enquiry about Stock. Donny CE told him he would cost £x, Cortese said thanks, but no thanks, told Pardew and that was that. This goes on all the time, its not unusual, its how negotiations start. No formal bid was made, neither manager was involved directly because it didn't get that far. The only question is who leaked the story, because clearly someone did. I would suggest Stock's agent would be a likely candidate.
