Charlton lose at home

It's pretty depressing when you look at other teams in this league. Norwich and Leeds are the only two with any class and the rest is just dross. If it wasn't for the Pinnacle time wasting and then our terrible start we'd be right up there.

At least next season we should have a laugh if we don't quite manage it this season.

Every time I've seen Charlton this season, they have looked very ordinary.

Same. They have looked very average and mainly just hoof the ball from defence to forwards completely missing out their IMO 2 best players, Bailey and Shelvey. If they used those 2 more often and played to their strengths then they would be a very good side but until they do that, i feel they may struggle against the more "footballing" sides like Leyton Orient were tonight.

Largely irrelevant to us. Our real targets are Huddersfield & MK Dons, maybe Swindon. We can definitely still make the play-offs, but realistically it has to be 6th place. The critical thing is that we win our next 2 games and that we beat Huddersfield (and Swindon) at home and MK Dons away. I thought AP's target was 14 wins by the way, not 15. We have to take 3 points from our rivals when we play them, otherwise we have no chance of closing the gap.

I have said for months, our objective is very, very, very simple: win the next game.

If we do this between now and May we will have at least one trophy, probably three.

All the games are equally important imo. We can beat all the top 6 teams and then throw it away against the **** and we'd still not get there. Realistically I think we probably need 15 prob 16 to reach the play offs. Won't be easy especially with our hectic schedule.

No we don't. We're not going to get relegated, or anywhere near.

In fairness we are only 3 points off. I am not saying we will go down at all, personally I see us 7-9th but if we get carried away with the cup and have a bad 3-4 league games we will be right back in that fight.

We're not going to have a bad handfull of games though, it just won't happen. If we win our game in hand we're 11th I think.

The teams below us are really **** and so are most of the teams above us are as well. Just need to concentrate on beating everything infront of us - Pompey will however be a massive test they're alot better than most in this league.

Oh sorry ! The all knowing CBRFY again. We must all remember never to disagree with he that is always right !

Why the hell do we have to dig someone out for a simple statement. One look at the table will say it all.

Nearly everybody on here is laughing due to the fact that we have spent more money. Well i for one have serious doubts about Otsemobor being good enough for the team. Seaborne looks as though he needs time to bed in. If he is good enough I envisage him playing more next season than this.

We are 3 points above the drop zone. Apart from last season when I saw the worst team we have had for over 50 years playing for us. We all believed we were to good to be in such trouble. The post you have responded to at no time says we will go down. Just gives a little reminder that we are not yet safe.

I agree, it was CBFRY that had apop at me for bringing this point up. Read the thread again.

If we are going to make the playoffs we will need to make up 13 points on the teams like Huddersfield and MK Dons. As such the results for teams like Southend and Orient are completely irrelevant.

Also if we are to make the playoffs not only do we need to win 14 games but the top 6 need to drop points against the likes LO.

I agree with you but interestingly this is taken from the Brentford OS match preview:

"Southampton was for many years a club hailed as one for all lower league clubs to follow - one that could punch above its weight and be competitive at the top level."

"But The Saints have been a club in decline for a number of years and still have much to do if they are not to face the prospect of a third relegation in five years."

If we get within 10 points of Charlton this season, I will streak around Fratton Park at 3.15 on the first Saturday of the new season. Or at least run around the block of flats which will be there come August.

The game between charlton and orient is pretty much irrelevant to us. Due to the impact of the -10 and team building that was going on at the start of the seaon teams such as charlton built up a gap that was always going to be too big for us to catch by the time our form picked up.

Our form since the start of October has been very very good in both league and cups. The reality is though that no matter how good our team now is we can realistically only hope to finish 5th or 6th now. That is still possible this season no doubt about it but its essential we beat huddersfield, swindon and mk dons. These teams will drop points in other games and they can be caught.

The gap between ourselves and 6th spot at the end of September i believe was around 18 points so we are closing in on that gap and will continue to do so. The only teams we need to be focusing on are those teams likely to be a threat to us for 5th or 6th spot ie huddersfield, mk dons and swindon. It would be better for the likes of leyton orient, southend, gillingham, oldham etc to beat these teams even if it means we temporarily drop a place or 2 in the table.

I foresee us attempting to overturn that 10 point penalty if we fall short. After all, I think it was the previous owners who promised they wouldn't appeal, wasn't it? Wouldn't be surprised if Cortese and co were looking into it.

Edited for controversy. ;)
