Dig Dig Posted 7 March, 2010 Share Posted 7 March, 2010 in today's Guardian football rumours. I'm confident that we will keep him but if he is getting interest from prem clubs it may be hard. Everyone has a price and all that, so how much do you think someone would have to bid fo us to let him go? I think around 3 million would do it. S-Clarke Posted 7 March, 2010 Share Posted 7 March, 2010 Why on earth would he (or anyone for that matter) want to go to Hull? and Hull are close to admin and will certainly go into it if they get relegated - so no idea where they'll get the money from. Don't worry about losing lambo, he isn't going anywhere.
Winchester_Saint Posted 7 March, 2010 Share Posted 7 March, 2010 Have no worries about him going to soon-to-be-relegated Hull, it is teams like Newcastle who will be a newly promoted Prem club next season who may do the bidding. Doubt we will let him go for £3million - not like we need the money and he seems happy. Unless he says he wants out, I doubt we will except any bids unless someone offers a ridiculous amount
beatlesaint Posted 7 March, 2010 Share Posted 7 March, 2010 He will still be playing for Southampton FC next season. The Newcastles of this world, if back in the Premiership will go for prem proven players or foreign players with a reputation gained from this coming World Cup. Teams in the CCC would not be able to afford him. He is 28, he is not a youngster worth taking a gamble on, he has never played higher than this division and he knew there was a very good chance we would take a second season to get oput of this League. If we fail to go up next season it just may be a different story.....but I doubt that too.

A player wants to play at the highest possible level, Lambert owes us nothing and if he gets offers that he sees as a step forward ,well then I guess he might just accept one of them. As we well know football player's contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on them when a player wants to leave but are rock solid ,cast iron ,24 guarantees when he's absolultely dire and nobody else wants him. For all his obvious talent I'm surprised that he has never played at a higher level. Perhaps he has never been pushed hard enough but I suspect that if he is playing well and happy then we won't go looking for a move. Just interested to know however, how much you think would be a decent offer for him if someone does come sniffing around?

St_Tel49 Posted 7 March, 2010 Share Posted 7 March, 2010 I doubt that we would turn down 2 million actually, maybe even less. I am perpetually surprised at how low our fans value our players only to see them go for a lot more. Jones was the classic example - quotes all over the message board of 500k perhaps 1 mill max. I am glad that you are not handling any negotiations.
St Landrew Posted 7 March, 2010 Share Posted 7 March, 2010 I doubt that we would turn down 2 million actually, maybe even less. Why..? We'd rather he stayed, and we certainly don't need the money. By all accounts, he's happy at Southampton, where he is very much appreciated. If, IF, we take money for him, it should be for ridiculous money to put clubs off. Put a price tag of £8M to £10M and suggest to any club that if they are rich enough to pay that much, then fine. The problem is, whatever striker one might replace Lambert with, is unlikely to be as effective, and be willing to play in League One, anyway. Baj Posted 7 March, 2010 Share Posted 7 March, 2010 If I was Lambert, and I knew I had serious interest from Prem club, I would hand in a transfer request. Saints foreva Posted 7 March, 2010 Share Posted 7 March, 2010 Not sure if I'm confident about keeping Lambert in the summer, a Leeds mate told me they would be looking at him if they go up and Beckford leaves. I expect him to be linked with a couple of teams in the summer, mainly Championship teams. Hope he stays, fantastic player who seems very happy here. But of course is that only because of the money he's getting?

Time is running out for Rickie, and he could be playing in the Premiership next season, or possibly with Saints, when he's in his 30's. I don't doubt that Saints could fend off enquiries, but if Lambert hands in a transfer request, then it's over.

He had opportinties to join CC teams over us and if he had done so he would have a much better chance of making it sooner than coming to us. Perhaps he is happy to be part of the project here, at best it would take 3 years for us to get to the prem so he can't have been expecting it sooner. They are quite happy to ply their trade from the bench at 20K a week and assure their financial future for ever. There are some pretty bad players in the EPL you know;couldn't get a game at Barcelona or Naples or Galatarasary or wherever but some EPL team will snap them up to make up the numbers. Look at that bloke who scored from 50 yards in the autumn, became a uber mega name within seconds. THe EPL will always have spare money for anyone who just might get a few goals Lambert fits into that category just now as does Beckford, remember Villa paid about 8 million for Fabien Delph, and to date they've seen nothing for their money. A lot will of course depend on the terms of his contract as to whether a transfer request is necessary. The contract may stipulate Saints are obliged to tell him if an offer is received from a higher division etc. Not that it means much, but a few of the players including Rickie were out in town last night, and when asked Rickie said "don't worry about it I'm not going anywhere I'm happy down here" No doubt Beattie,Bridge, even Kenwynne Jones probably made previous similar statements, but that can change with a phone call from their agent the next day. There is one huge difference between RL and most of the players you mention/types of players you refer to. RL is English. Most PL teams (whats this EPL thingy) only buy foreign players, because they don't think English players are any good. If a PL team had wanted to buy Beckford they would have done in January, they didn't, that speaks volumes. There have been a few (very few) players who have made the jump from 3rd division to 1st division recently, our own BO for example, as well as Zamora, but really not many. Any player with something between their ears will realise that bench warming is not all its cracked up to be. If I was a betting man I would have a small wager that RL will still be with us next season. I would not however bet against Lallana or Spiderman leaving, they are not AP's men (they weren't signed by him) and probably would not have the loyalty to the man that his signings would.
