Jelle van Damme

Looks like former Saints fullback and part-time racist Jelle van Damme is returning to England to ply his trade at Wolves.

While an ex-player moving is not massive news, it looks like our coffers will be boosted by up to 15% of the transfer fee, according to the Express & Star (http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/2010/05/26/van-dammes-wolves-move-held-up/).

It's not groundbreaking news, but at least it is Saints-related news.

Dressed like a German, he was an odd bloke. I remember the summer we signed him speaking to some Ajax fans out in Spain, they rated him and said he would be a half decent player in Prem.....never trusted the Dutch since.
Now you mention it, he did dress like a German. jvd.jpg Edited by Rogerfryisalegend

I spoke to some in Portugal during Euro 2004 and they said he was "big and a bit clumsy" and Maxwell was miles better than him which is why he was leaving.

Moral of this story is that footy fans actually attending major tournaments seem to know more about football than those spending their summer on holiday in neighbouring countries to those in which major tournaments aere taking place...

Maybe take our 10% to 15% out of a Surman transfer fee. ;)

EXACTLY. In a weird, twisted roundabout way, this is very good for us potentially. Wolves want him for 2.5 mill, we agree to drop our percentage to nothing, in exchange for a cheaper signing, or loan signing of a Wolves player. Could work...

To be fair, Maxwell is miles better than 95% of professional fullbacks.

Back on topic... just a punt, but I'd assume that the whole administration process will have put paid to any historical sell-on clauses etc... SLH not existing any more and all that.

wouldn't the contract have been with the football club, not SLH? ,so therefore the clause is still valid?

I remember watching at Staplewood, during a reserve match, and he was cursing and swearing at his teammates. Very angry young man, who clearly didn't want to be there.

Remember seeing him in a friendly at Swindon and realising he was a ****. Same game that Marian was crocked if I remember correctly.

Just to add a little 'fact' it was after said tournament so who knows they may well of attended.

Seems to me you're making a pointless point, just because someone goes to a tournament doesn't mean they are a safe source on someone who had played for their supported club, people argue here all the time over whether a player is good or not everyone has a different opinion of someone.

He had a really awesome season (makes me sick to say this as I hate Anderlecht) here with something like 3 goals and approx 5/6 assists. No bad stats for a full-back. He also regained his spot in the national side. I think he's a totally different player to the one we knew at Saints. Grown man type of thing.
