Why are so many so negative??

What I cannot understand is why is there so much negative comment and criticism about our club, the chairman, the lack of new players etc., etc. We are in the best financial position for many decades; have someone runing the club with sound business pedigere and with the backing of a billionaire; we have a manager that is respected throughout football circles; we have probabaly the best squad within this division and still so called supporters find nothing but doubt and negative comments to make about our club. Why?

FFS get behind the club, the manager, the team and enjoy what promises to be the most exciting and rewarding season since 02/03.

Ian, have you never heard the phrase "Whingeing Poms"?

The moaners and the nay sayers are actually HAPPY. It is a deep down part of the British psyche to be always negative.

The amount of negativity this close season is higher than usual BECAUSE we have such a great chance of success. It NEVER happens to us and people don't feel comfortable with that. Many are still in shock at winning a match at Wembley, it simply doesn't happen to us and it messes up our entire lives.

We'll go up safely enough with bad days and very bad days along the way. Only beating some team 7-0 and losing to some no hopers 0-1 thanks to a bad referee and we'll STILL be moaning.

See the negativity for what it actually is - a cartoonesque spoof on reality

And cheer up, if we weren't whingeing we'd be Yanks or Aussies or worse Yarpies

Wow, another fred lecturing us on how to think. Sweet.

The only cliche you missed out was "In AP we trust", but a commendable effort in patronising, nevertheless.

I am usually a bit 'happy clappy' about club matters but I can't help but be a bit cautious. It just doesn't feel right being most people's favourites to win the league.

At least as underdogs the feeling is greater when you do win.

I am extremely excited about the season.

But do no overrate our squad. Plymouth are turning up today with some decent Championship players and the potential for a very good manager (depending on which Peter Reid they brought in for this season...)

We are a bit weak in midfield and we should take nothing for granted.

But seeking perfection is no crime, even if I do try to be grateful for what we have, not what we don't. Aspiration and ambition never killed a mockingbird.

Probably because its Saints...

Look, we've had years and years of being run by arses, of never really competing with the otehr teams in whatever League we've been in... now we're the big dogs and most of us have probably struggled to cope with that change.. hell, I still expect us to lose more games than we win....

Things will change, it just takes time.

There are a few poster on here with personality problems, some more posters on here who have ego problems and others who are just plain thick. I said it years ago that posters follow the leader as they lack the confidence or ability to form an opinion of their own and latch onto one of these, either for or against an opinion already expressed by some one else. Usually the last sort of person on here - the thickos - have problems spelling long words (Sun readers presumably) and problems with grammar. I was tempted to stick some spelling mistakes to see who would pick me up on it to prove a point but I won't.

The portrayal on the opening post puzzling of unhappy fans is an accurate one. This is going to be a great season for us I'm sure.

We are presumably all Saints fans at the end of the day......it doesn't always look like it on here.

We live in hope ........... and die in despair .

I just don't accept for one moment that it is at all 'negative' to question what you see going on should the occasion arise . It's those who choose to never challenge 'the powers that be' or the official version of events that worry me more frankly , indeed this forum could do with a few more questioning voices at times . If I've criticized the club over this Illingworth business then that is because I'm pro free speech - not anti Cortese .

My philosophy of supporting this great club is akin to the relationship between a loving parent and their child almost - and like any good parent I must speak the truth when I see my 'child' going off the rails so to speak - however unpopular that message may be .

I sincerely dont think he's telling us to think dude. Just his thoughts of why he can't understand people are so negative which I can see as well.

There is nothing wrong in questioning things, it is when things turn abusive that the problems start. I am not a great fan of Cortese but so long as he does a decent job, thats all you can ask. I don't get the stick that Pardew has taken from some quarters as I think he has done well so far, but you are always going to get people who will take a pop at the manager if he isn't perfect in every decision because they need a fall guy. The same stuff was going on when we were a Prem club (that seems so long ago now). It will continue to go on even if we top the league this season (as Steve Bruce found out at Brum). Such is life.

JDLN got it right, after so many years of being run down by no-mark 'businessmen' (starting with Askham and ending with Lowelife) the expectation of Saints fans is that a fall is just around the corner. If the team that turns up today is the team that finished last season there is not an awful lot to worry about. It's obvious that we badly need cover, particularly in midfield, which needs to be addressed within the next couple of weeks - or sooner depending on what happens this afternoon. If NC is true to his word of aiming for the Premiership pronto there has to be continual investment, but the last thing we need is a load of decent but limited third division players on long contracts in the Championship.

It's hard being Mini Real Madrid...

just what we needed. Another mongy 'why the negativity get behind the club ffs' thread

i wonder how many times the 'we nearly lost our club for good last season' comes out.

At least the 'we didn't even have a proper pre-season' tripe doesn't apply this year

this season...pre season is not that important..WTF????

Thats a really good analogy. I think youve hit the nail on the head there.

Got no problem with him not understanding it. But starting thread smack of lack of acceptance, not understanding.

Anyway, hes not even the worst person on this thread. That prize belongs to Twentytwentyvision.

We have such a good Manager, that he STILL cannot adapt tactics to suit the occasion

Pardew does not know how to play against an eight(or more) man defence minded team

There are Twenty Two more home matches where the opposition will play more or less like Plymouth

Pardew's so called tactics are virtually non existant

We do NOT have the best Squad within the division

Negative comments ?? Yes when they are warrented.

Get behind the Team ?? Yes of course, but not Blind Faith.

I honestly do not think Leibherr/Cortese will put up with many more defeats, especially at home

I'm negative because I don't think we're as good a team as everybody likes to think. I don't believe we'll be promoted this season.

Its unfair to say that with utter confidence until the window shuts. But I am inclined to agree, because I dont think any players will be arriving before then.

I saw enough last season to say that the team we have is good enough to compete with anything in this division so i believe we are good enough to win this division / obtain promotion. I don't believe the hype that we are bang-on division favourites. I also don't disagree with comment that some additional signings would be good BUT to dismiss this current team is a bit silly.
