Dr Who? Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 As I am now a regular visitor to SMS again this season, I have become increasingly frustrated by the parking for home games. I have tried several places. Retail Park - not suppose to park here for more than an hour. Not sure why you cannot for evening games? Lesiure world - again not suppose to park here, but you can park for longer, but is a distance NCP car park out the back of Mayflower, but took over an hour to get out after the Rochdale game Station car park - still a bit of a trek and cannot always get a space. I do not mind paying for parking, this is not an issue, but does anyone know any good parking which is close ish to the ground and where you can shoot off either up to the M27 or up the A33? Cheers
rocknrollman no2 Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 Try the car park where the floating bridge used to go. Its a small walk to the stadium, but after the game,by the time you have gone back to your car,a lot of the traffic has gone. Then it a case of straght over the Itchen bridge and away. VectisSaint Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 Nowadays I tend to use the Car Park in Salisbury Street/Wyndham Place. Its a bit of a walk to SMS (across East Park, down by Solent Uni and across the bridge), but is convenient for coming down from Winchester and also for getting out after the game back onto The Avenue. Used to park down by the Anchor & Hope (which is no more) but it takes longer to get back to The Avenue from there than it does with the walk back to Salisbury Street. SuperMikey Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 There's a council-run one by the Northam Estate which is pretty decent, although there is a lot of traffic there after the games. Pop into the Joshua Tree for a (non-alcoholic) beverage after the game and wait for it to die down a bit.

Dr Who? Posted 17 October, 2010 Author Share Posted 17 October, 2010 This is the thing, I hate leaving games early and have to get back to Cambridge. If I leave straight after the game I should be back home between 12.30 and 01.00 midweek. Saturdays not so much of a rush to get out so some pop in the pub could be the way to go. Like I said rather pay for parking than to wait for traffic to clear. Also do not want the flack on here for leaving 5 minutes early, and after travelling that far to get to the game seems stupid to leave before it has finished!!! InvictaSaint Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 For 20 years now, as a Saints exile in Kent, I have parked on Cemetary Road, just off the Avenue, below the Cowherds. It's a 20-25 minute walk to the ground, but when you get back to your car there is very rarely much traffic to contend with as you leave town. Presumably if you live in Cambridge, you go M11 - M25 clockwise - M3. If so, this could be the place for you. Parking is free on Saturdays and there is always space. SuperMikey Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 Alternatively park at the Airport and get the bus to the ground from there?
Rebel Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 I park at the same place as I used to for the Dell - its free and its a fairly short walk to St Mary's - is also fairly quick to get to the M3 considering the football traffic. You could park at the Southampton Solent University - I think its free again at the moment (unless the Students Union get their act together). If you park near the entry or exit its very quick to get out and is very close to St Marys. Entry is off East Park Terrace.
John Boy Saint Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 Alternatively park at the Airport and get the bus to the ground from there? That would be a bit steep to pay to part there............................... although you could parachute out of a Flybe plane straight into St Marys if public transport does not appeal. The spot down by the floating Bridge under the Itchen bridge is a good shout and its is a bit cheaper too.
Whitey Grandad Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 I park near Bitterne railway station when I'm not going in on the number 1 bus. It's a 26 minute walk from there.
bpsaint Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 Ever since we've been at St Mary's I use the one near the rowing club on Northam Bridge. As you head towards the ground from Bitterne take the left just at the end of the bridge and come back on yourself. Costs a fiver and i've never been held up turning right on the bridge to head home, one road all the way to the M27 from there.

Under the Itchen bridge sounds a good shout. Might have to look out for this one. How do I get to that from the mini roundabout at the end od the Itchen bridge, and is it the stadium end or the other end?

Its the town end.Just turn right by the Chapel Arms roundabout (if heading towards the stadium),then follow the road under the bridge and i think its the second turning on your left. Sad Sam Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 Car park at the Woolston end of the Itchen Bridge is free for the first four hours. hamster Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 the parkway car park is free at weekends but I accept that although easy peasy geting in it can be a pain getting back due to numbers. Opposite the station is a carwash place who will wash your car for a fiver and let you leave your car there for as long as you want. It's a steal with the added benefit that you can double back and go straight up Hill Lane and The Avenue then straight onto the M3. Alternatively why not enquire about the park and ride at Burseldon tesco? free bus, just don't wear colours.
