ladysaint Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 I mean with regards to the 125 celebrations, I know they are offering special packages at £125.00 each but will there be anything else for the fans in the stand, i.e. a parade of past players, entertainment after the game or at half time, free beer and pie etc., etc.

I remember at the 100th birthday at The Dell back in 1985 we had a special matchday programme and plenty of events before the game and at half time. The silence however is deafening. niceandfriendly Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 I'd be really disappointed if there isn't something before the game, but I thought we'd have heard about it by now if there was something planned...?
aintforever Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 I'm all for ignoring 125th anniversaries, I mean really, what makes 125 an important number if we're honest?! 100 yes definitely, maybe 150. BUT BUT BUT That excuse goes out the window when you release an anniversary shirt and put 125th anniversary on the website and go on about it pre-season. Yet since then...nothing. No big event to open the season, no big friendlies, no ted bates match. It all seems really half arsed. Actually it just seems weird. It doesn't maximise profit so it's not just about money, it doesn't get fans onside, it just doesn't make much sense. Why is 100 so important? Just because it has two zeros after the first number - big deal. It means **** all, f we didn't count in multiples of 10 it would be no different to any other number. I couldn't give a **** if nothing is done to celebrate it.

Anyway I don't expect anything with ex players. Not a chance.

It's just a landmark people use to celebrate things. Get over it.

Window Cleaner Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 What does 125 really mean ?? F*ck all to me It means we needed an excuse for a bit of jingoistic tub thumping,a new shirt, probably some "special" merchandise as well. Never seen such an innocous milestone built up to such an extent. When you've a fairly recent manifestation 10 years means something, then 25 but after all this time 125 is nothing special
Tamesaint Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 Did'nt we get stuffed at home by Everton on our 100th aniversary game? Yes . we lost 3-2 I think. I remmber Danny Wallace scored with his head - pretty unusual for a 5foot nothing player. I went with a mate who supports Everton. He was quite pleased to be a party pooper. Window Cleaner Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 So then I have read that some young footballers and their parent are being invited to the game on Saturday with free tickets to boot. There is also some sort of hospitality package costing ...wait for it.... yep 125£ for 2 people (plus VAT of course).Still good to see those freebies going out to very young players for the occasion, think they get a free tea and a walk round the pitch or something as well. beatlesaint Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 100 is much more noteworthy (if equally arbitrary). 125 - meh. It may well be BUT since the club have made such a song and dance about it with special one season only club crest and the "Celebrating 125 years" tag line everywhere you look the logical assumption would have been that something would be done to mark the actual birth date of the club !! Bourno Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 I have tweeted the saints official twitter account without response. They have made a fuss this season of having a special badge and special kit, yet the only publicised celebration is for those who are prepared to spend £125 + VAT for 3rd divisdion match. Would be a nice surprise if we found 125 anniversary scarves on our seats on saturday as a keep sake - but I won't be holding my breath.

It means **** all, f we didn't count in multiples of 10 it would be no different to any other number. We live in a base ten society therefore we do xount in multiples of 10. if we didn't have then every single number would have a new name and we'd have to think up new symbols to represent every digit that goes after 9, we couldn't have 10, 11, etc. Therefore any multiple of 10 is important.
