Roger Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 (edited) Great day out. Seemed very strange standing but good in some ways. Stood at back then some youths who looked stoned came and stood behind us and sang various songs about having discos etc which was very chavvy but actually they turned out to be okay. Easy to park actually. Loads of empty seats in home end. We were very loud. To the idiot who said brighton had scored a winner, what were you thinking?? Went ot bristol rovers 5-1 and that was ruined by udders so hope we can get rid of them altogether. Went to charlton and orient and we always seem to have a half in every game were we lose control in midfield. Hammond and chaplow were poor for me again, especially hammond. Need morgan back to keep the ball. Marks are: Davis 8-Saved peno. Richardson-4.(for giving needless penalty away. What was he doing?) Fonte 8-Superb player of season for me. Jaidi 7-Solid as a rock Harding 7-Okay. Guly 7-Out of position but was good today worked hard, we missed him when he went off. Hammond 5- Just didnt offer much. Someone will tell me he does lots I expect. Morgan is much better imo. Chaplow 6- A bit better than recently, still not great though at all. Midfield is our weak spot imo. Lallana 8-MOM. Was class. Brilliant. Lambert 6-Played okay made 2nd goal but not his best game. Connolly 8- The guy was class all day long. Subs; Gobern 6-Out of position was better when he went to left. Butterfield-only on for a bit as dickson. Great day but need morgan back. Why wasnt he on bench? Edited 30 April, 2011 by Roger

Nexstar Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 Fantastic day out, result was great and ended up celebrating 7 times! (3 goals, penalty save, 2 Brighton goals and 1 phantom Brighton goal!) Our fans were absolutely fantastic from start to finish, must have been so loud to the Brentford lot who didn't muster a single song for 90 minutes. Would like to know how we came across on the radio and if anyone has any videos they'd like to share?

Chinese whispers are a little tricky to contain. Someone listening to the radio hears a chance, says something, that gets misconstrued by someone nearby and next thing you know there is a wave of celebration for a phantom goal. Glad to hear you all had a great day. Was the feeling effected much knowing that Huddersfield had pulled a win out of the bag?

krissyboy31 Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 He saved it. I wasn't at the game but the OS report says: "A penalty was then awarded to the hosts on 82 minutes when Richardson felled Weston just inside the area on the right. Saunders stepped up, but his well struck effort came back off the post with Davis going the right way to cover had it tried to creep in."

Roger Posted 30 April, 2011 Author Share Posted 30 April, 2011 Very loud. Do you think adkins sometimes tells us to conserve energy like in the second half today as we really played a a canter. Was a bit concerned that had so much possession second half though, or is it midfield arent good enough to hold ball?

Their only threat (if you can call it that) came down their left, nothing went through the middle for 90mins. They identified Gobben as the weak link. The penalty came from that area as well We played within ourselves and the result was never in doubt from the 1st minute to the 90th We come again late in games when other teams are tired. Judging it on charlton, leyton orient and today we always have a half where we lose midfield.
View From The Top Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 Never thought, for a moment, at Orient or today that the opposition would score. You're a tad OTT saying we lost the midfield as our keeper didn't have to make a save.

shurlock Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 (edited) Don't get the OPs ratings- Chaplow, a 5? Hammond, a 4? Seriously? Both were very good. Chaplow was everywhere and gave us good forward movement. Hammond was usually on the winning end of midfield50-50s. I thought Jaidi was a bit erratic 2nd half -sliced a lot his clearances that put us under pressure. Will be interesting what happens Monday as Plymouth are a physical, hoofball side that Jaidi usually does well against. Lallana also had a poorish game by his amazingly high standards - some of his decision-making and passing was a bit rusty (to be expected, I guess). My only criticism of NA was bringing on Gobern - thought the game passed him by and was a virtual passenger, esp as Weston looked handful after coming on. Would have used Butterfield and pushed Richardson up - after all, we were leading 2-0 at the time of the first substitution. You're a tad OTT saying we lost the midfield as our keeper didn't have to make a save. I spent most of the second half at Brisbane Rd desperately hoping Orient wouldn't score from their ton of possession down Butterfield's flank and all Cox's crosses into the box. Today I didn't even think we'd concede when we gave them the penalty (which looked like contact outside the box and a hell of a distance to fall forward to become a pen). "Lost the midfield" my arse, we were totally on top and totally in control throughout, it took a terrible tackle for them to get even close to scoring and we were always comfortable. The pen clearly hit the post. As for the "phantom" goal celebration, we were in the upper tier right in the middle, and just as my mate's phone registered the Huddersfield winner a bunch of people behind and to the right started cheering - we were doing the "cut it" gesticulation because we already knew, but it took a while to register with them. I thought Gobern was growing into the role, he was more effective today than at Brighton, and he was perfectly fine there. Difficult to criticise anyone, we were so professional throughout (penalty aside). Chaplow's best game for some time without doing anything exciting, Hammond kept possession well and mostly took the sting out of the game. Can't fault either of them really, without them being spectacular.

niceandfriendly Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 Agree with the comments about Hammond and Chaplow, thought they both played well. Chappers especially, never stopped putting them under pressure. We lost the midfield for about 10 minutes in the second half, nothing to get concerned about. Lallana is just unbelievable. How is a player of his ability and quality playing for Southampton? We are so lucky. What a day out, magnificent atmosphere. Leaving for Plymouth early hours tomorrow morning, should be a good weekend. Connolly my MOTM.

Channon played three games for us in Division Two and Ron joined us from Norwich when we were promoted to Div 1 - we did have Chivers before going up though. Chez Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 brilliant day out in Chiswick and Brentford with more beers than I care to remember. Thought we were terrific in the first half. We could not have been more dominant and it could have been 4 or 5. We took our foot off the gas and Weston (might be a good signing for us) caused us a few problems when he came on. We woke up though and at no point did I ever think we wouldn't win. We are so professional right now. David 9 caught everything and kicking was first class. Richardson 6 solid game but got skinned by Weston Jaidi 10 didn't put a foot wrong and won absolutely everything Fonte 10 bossed things as usual Harding 8 "You'll never beat Dan Harding" is the perfect song for him. Has anyone skinned him since that Bristol Rovers 2-3 game last season? Guly 6 a few loose passes as normal but was playing well until he went off injured Chaplow 7 ran and ran and ran. Battled hard and covered every blade of grass. Hammond 7 Strong and passed well Lallana 8 usual tricks and turns Lambert 8 Bullied their short centre back Connellly 9 tremendous until he tired. A real thorn in their side. Interesting battle with their centre back that almost came to blows off the ball Gobern 6 held an end up, but not much more. He is too cagey with his tackles now. Butterfild and Dickson did fine.
