Would he make the first team sheet for us, or would he just be cover? ;)

I think it would depend on him keeping up with Lambert, Connolly and Barnard!!

It would be absolutely hilarious if we did sign him though.

I'd hope we'd be thinking a bit bigger than that really (and the same could be said of Mackail Smith, can't really work out the obsession of some to sign him)

Yes I could never understand this either. The possibility of taking the leagues top scorer away from one of our main rivals was a mystery to me as well.

transition from playing in front of 7,000 to 32,000 sell outs would be a massive step up for the lad?

Steady on son. Great that we got promoted but if you think we'll be playing in front of 32,000 regularly next season think again.

Agree but I am sure if we were to be in the top six just before Christmas our gates would top 28,000 most weeks then selling out for likes of West Ham, Leeds, Wolves and Brighton. Also Pompey if they could sell their allocation?

Definitely not good enough for us im afraid. If we were still in league 1 next season then i would be happy but not in the Championship.

CMS is the guy for us IMO, he tore us apart a few months ago, is top goalscorer, works amazingly hard and was voted best player in the league.

It's no coincidence that Hull and Norwich were trying to sign him. Lucky for us the canaries got promoted so i doubt they are interested now, he would be amazing up top with Lambert

Neither were Norwich yet they wanted to sign him, should we ditch the entire saints team as they're all league one players at present? Going back to Norwich who scored the goal to send them up to the PL? thats right Jackson a league one striker last season. CMS would be a great addition to the team I'd rather have a hungry talented player from a lower league than some name looking for his last pay day.

Wouldn't take a risk with CMS - compared to other positions, our frontline has very little championship experience and would prefer proven pedigree, especially if he is cast as leading forward. CMS is quite similar to Barney in style and many forwards would do well in a Peterboro team that has created chances for fun.

There are arguably more L1 strikers that have not made a huge impression on the championship -Hunt, Paynter, McLean, BWP etc- than ones that have (and the ones that have made the step up have usually been promoted with the team, not been subject to a big money move). Of course, CMS spent a season in the championship and has learnt from the experience but the numbers -£2m+- being bandied about are pretty steep and need much greater justification in terms of value for money.

Danny Graham is a realistic target for us from Watford.

Glen Murray is a good player as those of us at our 3-1 defeat last season will testify when he ripped Jaidi and Trotman a new one. Unlike many of the posters on here I think he WILL do well in the NPC, getting 16-17 goals but he's less likely to be moving to us or any other southern club as he is from Cumbria originally and wants I'm told by friends who are Carlisle fans that he wants to move back to the North West. Burnley are a possible destination although they have a similar player in Austin, Wigan if they go down and Blackpool. Further afield, on a free I can see him being attractive to Hudds if they win the play offs (Alan Lee is too old now for NPC) or maybe Leeds as he's a far better player than Billy Paynter.

So? Just as many have failed. In fact, Holt has failed in that league before, Jackson took a long time to make an impact. All depends on the player. Lambert for instance could be as good or better than Holt, or could really struggle. V hard to know. IMO he's level headed and his finishing will remain largely similar regardless of league, but perhaps his lack of pace will limit chances a little more. Pace around him will compensate though. I'm still very happy to have Lambert as the main striker next season though.

Don't get too many games from League 1 here so can't really comment on Murray or CMS.

Personally from what I have seen of Lambert, I think he will do quite well. He is not a striker that relies on pace to score the bulk of his goals but works intelligently around the box and brings others into play. I agree if we could pair him up with someone who is quick, can run at people and dribble a bit I think they could both do well. Someone like Rob Earnshaw would be my choice, probably not good enough for the premier league but has bags of expereince at championship.

He wants a small fortune in wages, which is why Forest have so far failed to agree a deal with him. They want to reduce their wage bill, he doesn't want to reduce his upwards of 17k a week wages.

CMS price will have dropped as teams will have been quoted a "premium" for him in January.

Had they sold him then they would have had little chance of promotion imo.

Now he only has 1 year on his contract and they have said he can leave.

He scored 10 goals in the NPC last time out and is in the best form of his career, he has what we lack....pace up front (other than Forte).

I didn't realise they were the only two options. I'm not advocating the return of James Beattie either.

My point is that Mackail Smith has had one decent season. He was in the Championship last season and was unspectacular. He's already 27. Now it may be that he's going to peak late, and will only improve over the next few seasons into a Premiership-quality player. But its more likely that he wont.I

would hope we would be aiming higher (now that we are promoted) than a player that has had one good season at League One level and several okay ones at a lower level.

But if you listen to some on here, he is/was somehow the magic ingredient that would guarantee us promotion and worth spending three times as much as we did on Lambert (which was already a considerable amount for a third tier player) for.

Incidentally, how are Jason Scotland and Simon Cox doing these days? Presumably they're ripping the Premiership (or even Championship) apart?

that is a good point, but having seen him play against us I feel he would be a good option at the right price.

£1-1.5ml would be a good deal imo.

He is not superman but how much would a prem class striker cost!!!!

Very out of date I'm afraid.

That WAS the case a while ago due to personal circumstances. But most definitely isn't the case now due to personal circumstances.

Which is why stories are emerging regarding to sale to Southern Clubs.

I doubt they would sell him for that when they turned down bigger from Norwich a few months ago.

MLG see my post 32 why I think they will have little choice! They could have sold him for a premium in Jan but wanted to have a good crack at the autos.
