I know it is hard to tell what we will do next season until we have seen who goes and who comes into the club, but what are your expectations for next season?

Earlier this season I was saying that when we go up at the end of the season I would be happy with mid table. When we beat Plymouth I thought scraping into the playoff's I would be happy with, but after Norwich went up I was thinking why not top 2?

I was wondering if the club and manager are thinking top 2, I am sure they are, but I would be very happy with a playoff place, and not to down in the dumps if we finished mid table..... top 2 would be a dream!!

I just wanted to gage now what you want next season, and then again after pre-season, then again after 10 games.

How about a Poll now, and then again just before the start of the season, and then another after 10 games.

but what are your expectations for next season?

I expect

- season tickets to go up 25% for starters.

- the manager to say that we'll take each game as it comes - stopping at each bus stop to reflect no doubt.

- very few (1 or 2) new players will come into the building and those that do will be unknown to most of us.

- by Christmas we will be 14th in the NPL

- the manager will say that league position is irrelevant and he never looks at it until the end of March

- lots of moaning and groaning on here about why we aren't top of the NPL by the end of October

- a significant " Adkins Out! lobby by November

- lots of rumours about Chambo and Adam and Morgan

...so, quite a season in prospect!

Looking at the top half of the NPC at the end of the season there would probably be 4 or 5 teams who will strengthen over the summer and be considered a challenge to us next season. With NA saying that there will be a couple of additions to our squad there is no reason to suggest why we cannot be top half of the table at minimum. Given the team spirit there is in the squad, a settled pre-season and a good start could see us challenging for a play off spot. For me a top half of the table finish be good, anything higher a bonus.

We have a chairman with a 5 year plan, I would expect that within that plan, the play offs next year would be the fall back objective with automatic promotion the primary.

As a fan, I could go with next year as a year of consolidation and adjustment with a top half finish as an ok result.

I don't think that would be acceptable to NC though.

We live in interesting times.

You certainly put the 'Goon' in Gooner.

I would love us to get auto promotion next season.

However, probably only a minority of our current squad would cut it for a whole season in the prem the season after.

Assuming that there just a few comings and goings this summer, then January will be interesting.

To mount a push for top 6 we need to sign 5-6 quality players. You look at the championship and I can't think of more than a handful of clubs i feel can't push for top 6 (Doncaster, palace, Barnsley, Watford etc) your left with a league with very strong squads. Interesting summer of building to come we have a good team spirit winninmenality but get a few bad results we need to show our resolve or bouncebackability...

Looking at where the promoted teams finished this season in the Championship, then I think play-offs is doable with a good start.

Provided we make about three astute signings, like a youngish CMS quality striker and someone of Jaidi's quality CB and CM. But we do not need to make wholesale changes as this squad is good enough for mid-table/top half.

We should not jettison anyone who played in the first team (other than N'Guessen) imo, at least before January when NA will have a better idea how individual players are faring in the CCC.

Is there an argument to say that you can go up too soon and a season of consolidation in the Championship will give Saints a better chance in the PL? On the other hand, who wouldn't take promotion next season. It will be interesting to see how Norwich get on. Were we to go up next season, with Saints PL infrastructure and what appears to be sound management and financial backing I think we'd have a better chance in the PL than many of the so called yo yo clubs. Nonetheless, I doubt we'll go up next year, although I think play-offs are a possibility.

There is a very good reason not to be promoted to the EPL too quickly. Derby

Derby made no effort to stay there, knew they had no chance and just took the money for future campaigns, mind you sacking Davies and appointing Jewell didn't help.

we should have beaten Derby in the play-offs really, they were dire.

And Norwich. They lasted just one season after they went up in 2004 and shared two relegations with us soon after. Will be interesting to keep an eye on them this year.

Norwich's relegation to League 1 was just the result of a totally p*ss poor management appointment.

Gunn took them down all by himself.

sort of proves the point....

Exactly, Forest appointed Davies and he got them clear, Derby appointed Clough and he did the same,Watford were really struggling but I guess they got someone else in and picked up.

The bottom was really crap, Saints were going to get -10,Charlton were useless, any reasonable managerial appointment for Norwich would probably have done the trick, but they appointed the tea boy as usual and he finished them off.

The tea boy got more points per game than the man he took over from. Roeder was to blame for Norwich's relegation, by the time Gunn came in they were in freefall.

Not sure why I am feeling the need to defend Bryan bloody Gunn but there you go.

upper mid table and two wins over Pompey. We cant expect play offs. We owe Pompey one big time, last two games against them have been heavy defeats, we really need to out the record straight and we need a win at Fratton Park.

top half finish would be a good season, with a win at fratton...I agree

to expect to walk into the playoffs first shout is a huge ask

Win the League Cup, FA Cup and the Championship.

As one poster famously said Saints should aim to win every single game. Therefore I want all three.

In reality I want consolidation (top half of the Championship) with a possible push for play-offs or a late charge for automatic would be a bonus.

Year 3 of a 5 year plan. Consolidation and building a team to get us automatic promotion in year 4

This, have to be realistic - I appreciate we are on a wave of euphoria following an astonishing run of form, but the championship is a significant step up and there are a lot of 'big' cluns in there and a lot of clus who have parachute payments, we are not alone in having cash
