Is Saints player worth getting?

Once and for all, and possibly with a poll too, 'Is Saints player any good'?

As an 'exiled' / occasional fan I would love to see the extended highlights of games I miss etc and it appears that all the decent content on the OS is only available via the Saints player.

On the surface I am the ideal candidate to subscribe yet every time the club put a juicy offer to me the siren voices of Saints Web loom large; it's a load of rubbish / it crashes on match days / they give you commentary of B'moth v Carlisle / the commentators are gimps (or yam yams) / etc / etc

Is Saints player worth a few pennies a day or is it complete rubbish ... I need to be told, now!

As another Expat, I think it is well worth the money. Been particularly impressed with the amount of content going up in the closed season. Seem to remember last year there wasnt so much.

Will get a few more live games this season on the telly here but for me still worth the investment.

It's great.

It used to be a bit glitchy, but it's worked perfectly for me for ages and ages now.

You get to listen to live commentary on match day, you get player and manager interviews, highlights and goals. And its about 8 bucks a month. That's two beers... Do it!

If you can't get to the games and don't live in the Radio Solent region then go for it.

The commentary is Solent's which I ain't a massive fan of but it's a damn sight better than nothing. The main prob with them is they often turn the crowd noise DOWN which sucks - but as I said - better than nothing.

Saints game on the radio and choice of Prem game to have on the TV with the sound turned down - it's what 10am on Sat mornings were made for. Roll on the new season.

Having said that the lastest video of the West Brom game is a bit annoying, obviously the editing guy has got a new toy. Ended up turning the sound of as the boing noise everytime they cut to a new clip got bloody annoying.

Sure the novelty will wear off though and we will get back to a proper commentary on highlights

It's 3.99 a month. Even with the faults you list (which I rarely experience) it's worth it

Have you not had the e-mail yet?

Dear Andy

We are currently working on improvements to Saints Player that will give you a much higher quality viewing and match day experience.

Key improvements include:

  • Upgraded near HD video quality

  • CoveritLive live chat

For the new season it is necessary to increase the price of your subscription slightly. As of 29/08/2011 your subscription will start to be billed at £4.29 per month. That is an increase of just 30p per month.

I think it's still worth it, moreso my nipper who's always checking it out.

Worth it for the extended highlights alone (you get 5 to 10 times as much footage as on the Football League Show). If you don't live in Hampshire then I imagine the Solent commentary stream will be invaluable too, plus there's a lot of behind the scenes footage and full interviews rather than snippets.

The service does have minor faults but for £4.29 I don't think you can go wrong. I only subscribed last season but would really miss it if I had to cancel.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?? And for that reason. I'm out. ;)

I guess the extra 30p has paid for the new Whooshes and Boings.

Yep - I'm an ST holder and so get to most games, but it gives me an extra Saints fix when I need it. Also, if I'm away on hols I can still keep in touch with news and interviews etc. What would REALLY make it great though would be live game streaming - not likely I know, but nevertheless that would be awesome.

If you can afford a quid a week, then get it !

Sure, some people will give you negative comments, but overall you will see every goal from Saints games, can listen to every commentary and quite a lot more on top !

No brainer IMHO.

Is it true that if you buy the player on one webstite, eg Brighton's player, your login works for all.

Well it's certainly true that if you buy a Saints Player subscription you can log in to other clubs' versions so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around.

I'd pay good money for that. If it's not allowed in the UK (cos of the 'no live games on TV at 3pm Sat' rule) then how about a service just for non UK based people?

espn3.com is basically ESPN online. It streams tons of stuff and the quality is top notch. If the Saints games were shown in the same quality then it would be excellent.

If the provider wasn't *too* fussy about locking it down to just non UK people (no geo IP checking) then I'm sure they'd be pleasantly surprised at the take up.

Like you say though - not likely - shame....

I wouldn't bother again for sure. It's probably my fault for not reading the small print but once you're locked into it you can't get out of it. I tried to stop my subscription after about 6 months and no matter how hard I tried to stop it, they kept taking the subscription until I was forced to close my bank account. What a pain in the ar$e?
