The thread for the more optimistic in life

Yes so we're bottom of the premier league with 0 points after 4 games. We're in the premier league. We're watching one of the best leagues in the world (if not the best) and have a reasonable chance of staying up (after 38 games). What happened to "in Adkins we trust?"

Without being "happy clappy", we have a good manager, better players than we've had for a long time and when everything clicks we get served up some classy football.

Good to see we are not panicking just yet.

In Adkins & Cortese & Lallana I Trust.

(ok, that was a bit happy clappy, but we have a lot of positives)

Two years ago we were in league 1 without a manager wondering how we could have started our 125th year so badly, and now we are wondering how our 12 million pound Uruguayan international will make a difference to our fortunes in the top flight.

Life is good.

On 18/09/2010 Southampton were 22nd in League 1 - P8 W1 D2 L4 (having nearly gone out of business)

On 18/09/2010 Portsmouth were in the Premier League.

On 17/09/2012 Southampton are in the Premier League.

On 17/09/2012 Portsmouth are 17th in League 1 - P6 W1 D2 L3 (and close to going out of business for good)

I know, I know, I've mentioned Portsmouth, but I thought it would be a LONG time before they stopped lauding it over us. We've come a long way in a very short space of time, and there's plenty to be optimistic about. I think we'll survive, but if we don't, it's not the end of the world. We've got solid foundations now.

Dear me. We're having this thread are we?

No short memories. No one has forgotten three years ago. It was three years ago.

Seriously, if you don't want discussion of our current situation, this forum probably not for you.

Give it a rest.

Bit blustery tonight, don't get too close to the ledge...

We'll be OK.

If we put in the very same performances against Utd, City and Arsenal but spread over the season, rather than in the first four games, there wouldn't be the same level of panic or concern as nobody would expect a result. The fact it is three of our first four games makes it look terrible to anybody who expected a result from Utd, City and Arsenal.

Context, it's all about context.

Gary Neville says we had decent shape and defended decently as a team but for a sensational arsenal and a couple of own goals and individual errors from Clyne and Fonte....... You get punished at the Emirates. Top teams will get punished there

Also he says we defended better than reading..... A lot better

#Perspective.

One of the best 'footballing' teams we've had since I've been supporting Saints (30+ years) with the promise of more to come once the new players are bedded in. Personally, I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

Just looking at all the other thread titles on this page......Jesus!! How long have these people been supporting Saints for? We always got tonked away from home at least once a season in the top flight and consistently played far worse than we have done so far and survived. Embarrassing bunch of lily-livered fannies. Please stay off this thread.

Reasons to be cheerful 1-2-3

1 We are in the Premier League and we get to watch the likes of Ramirez and Lallana every week.

2 We are as stable and secure as I can ever remember us, if we go down we are solvent; we take the parachute payments, sell off our big money buys (probably at a profit) and start again.

3 The academy continues to be a production line with JWP playing and doing well in the Prem at 17 years old and the promise of more to come.

Enjoy the ride, would you swap those Arsenal fans? I wouldn't.

I loved the ride ..........just not enjoying the destination much:lol:.

Haha, point taken!

Think we're just changing cars, been a long journey and some parts are showing wear and tear. Looks like we put wrong petrol in the new one, Adkins has just realised, but to be fair to him it was a hell of a big hill to drive up, especially with the wrong fuel.

Started to look a little better with the Gastron GTX oil and once he fits the Japanese parts in, fixes the flat left tyre and works out where the dodgy African turbo boost goes, we'll be ok.

Personally i am loving this season,i know Saturdays result was a setback, but the previous 3 games i felt we have been excellent.Apart from suspect substitutions in the Man U game i think the manager has been spot on,not just this season but the previous seasons in the lower leagues,i think hes as good as we need. Its going to be an exciting year, and with the promising football we have shown so far,id like to think we will survive at this level........It was not long ago i followed a replica coffin around the streets of Southampton on a deminstration to how badly the club was being run,so to be in this league someone somewhere is making the right decisions.

For me this post misses the point. I do appreciate being back in the Prem, I think NA has been a breath of fresh air, as has our approach to playing football. However, it is valid to discuss the fact that we have lost the 1st 4 games and are bottom without a point. If it continues, I can't see anything other than NC acting to dismiss him. It's not about throwing yourself off of a ledge because you are a doom monger, or saying "In Nigel I trust", it's about living in the real world. Look back at history and you will see it time and time again. It's unfortunate, but we really need to get some points up on the board and I really hope for Nige's sake that we do that quickly.

I gather you're talking about the whole thread? Anyway I'd imagine alot of those posting on this thread are happy to discuss what's going wrong at the moment. However discussing that is one thing, constant negativity and the instigation of witch hunts is something else entirely. As is jumping to conclusions and then posting these thoughts as fact.

I honestly have never come into contact with quite so many people who seem to have no ability to look at themselves and think 'Christ I'm being a bit of a pillock here'.

Actually, Skates were in the championship 2 years ago, having been relegated at the end of 09/10 season.

Try 3 years ago, when we were still on minus points.

Yes, sorry I meant the whole thread. Fair point you make though. I'm a pillock most of the time but I don't take it too seriously. No-one here gets out alive at the end of the day.
