Saint in Paradise Posted 18 May, 2013 Share Posted 18 May, 2013 Don't know why he is crying he will still continue to rake in more money than he needs. Oh yes and he will still manage to get his photo everywhere so we won't be able to easily avoid him even though some might really want too. Colinjb Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 An honourable man who genuinely loves playing football. Of course he would be emotional at the prospect of never playing professionally again.
tony13579 Posted 19 May, 2013 Share Posted 19 May, 2013 I don't quite get the emotional bit. I left work after 33 years. No tears. Just a big grin and a long list of things to do. 7 weeks in I don't know how I managed to fit work in.

de-fence Posted 22 May, 2013 Share Posted 22 May, 2013 He took LA Galaxys money and ran He was hopeless in World Cup finals. For the last third of his career, his eye was literally off the ball, imo. Sorry, I think he was a couple of steps short of greatness. I'm ****ing sick of people slating David Beckham. I literally do not understand what else you could ask for from a professional footballer. 'Batman's' list there is extremely comprehensive and thus he has to be regarded as one of the leading British footballers of his generation. But even if you refuse to accept that he has been a FANTASTIC role model for young people in this country. Besides playing a major role in obtaining the Olympics for us (one of the best month periods this nation has enjoyed for decades in my opinion), he has done an enormous amount for charity and above all else is just a supremely nice bloke. He's taken himself from being a bit of an illiterate div to a well rounded, almost intelligent and coherent speaker. The people who dislike him just sum up what is wrong with British people in general. We hate winners. And DB has won at every major project he has ever turned his hand to inside and outside of football. Appreciate the contribution this man has made to your country, a contribution that dwarfs anything you will ever achieve by many orders of magnitude. People who refuse to acknowledge this are just bitter and quite frankly pathetic in my opinion. Rant done.
Manuel Posted 23 May, 2013 Share Posted 23 May, 2013 Ok, seeing as we're not permitted to discuss the murders of innocent people on our streets we'd better get back to David Beckham. Personally I think he was alright.

Agreed, no point belittling the mans achievements, let's see who history favours more, Beckham or you? If your achievements are genuinely bigger and greater and have as much of an influence on other peoples lives as his did... we'd sure like to know about it! Especially before you can critiscise someone elses! Its like someone sat in a rusty Peugeot 106 with a dodgy break light looking at somone in a porsche and going "**** car, overrated!" Cascadia Saint Posted 23 May, 2013 Share Posted 23 May, 2013 Swap LA Galaxy for Real Madrid, Newcastle Unite, Man United and Stoke and you would be describing Michael Owen to a tee Utter ********. Beckham did immeasurably more for LA than Owen did for his last 3 teams. Starting most games for one. Being the best player on the field most of the time for another. And don't whine about the standard of MLS if haven't watched any games.

Try reading my reply in the context of Alpine's reply and you would realise that is exactly what I am saying. Since leaving 'pool Owen's career stagnated yet he was still applauded as something special on Sunday, not by me. And where the **** have I slagged off MLS?? Since leaving 'pool Owen's career stagnated yet he was still applauded as something special on Sunday, not by me. And where the **** have I slagged off MLS?? The MLS point was a pre-emptive strike, apologies for any collateral damage there. I really don't think Beckham's career stagnated in anything like the same way Owen's did. I imagine it could seem that way from England, although I have been in more regular contact with his career at LA being over here myself. I try not to read anything Alpine writes, so may have missed the context there. Edit - I see what you mean.
