spyinthesky Posted yesterday at 15:17 Posted yesterday at 15:17 We have to expect that Trump and his band of cult members will detach from NATO at some stage within his remaining years and the threat of Russia invading another of the countries in their purported sphere of influence will increase. Hopefully the Ukrainians will do their utmost to keep Putin occupied. The country getting the most benefit from Trump is probably China. Meantime the cost of jet fuel will rise and adversely affect foreign travel plans. Hopefully this will mean that far fewer people will be attracted to the USA for the forthcoming World Cup. I truly hope so.

The midterms are also coming up in November, at which point he looks set to lose control of the house and will be a lame duck president. I don’t think that Trump is too bothered about getting the approval of Congress. He has ridden roughshod over them on many occasions so far. If he wants something he has enough useful idiots in positions of power to deliver for him. I wouldn’t rule anything out. As for Vance, he may be even more problematic than Trump. We can only hope that the Democrats get their act together and put the brakes on these lunatics. 1

Even the Supreme Court would not back him against Congress. The Law on elections is cast in stone, that is why so much effort is being put into gerrymandering, by both sides, and why Congress, with it's current balance of power, has proven unable pass the SAVE Act - he simply cannot command the majority needed to pass the Bill. He could do plenty to stop American participation in NATO without pulling out of the membership. Remember too that the President needs to get approval from Congress to go to war and that hasn’t stopped him in Iran. Edited 12 hours ago by sadoldgit

tdmickey3 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago 🤣 Putin ready to help resolve war in Middle East, Kremlin says Vladimir Putin is talking to regional leaders in the Middle East and Russia is ready to contribute to resolving the Iran conflict, Moscow has said. In his daily briefing with reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "The president is continuing these contacts, and if our services are somehow required, we are, of course, ready to make our contribution to ensuring that the military situation transitions to a peaceful course as soon as possible." Peskov was responding to a question about Donald Trump's speech to the nation about the Iran war and his separate comment that he was considering pulling the US out of NATO - an alliance which Peskov said Russia viewed as "hostile". Discussing the prospects of a Russian-Arab summit, he added: "Certainly, easing tensions in the region and minimising the negative consequences of this war are only possible through negotiations, through dialogue, for which such a summit could potentially become a good platform in the future."

inspectorfrost Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Inevitable that Putin sees an opportunity by offering to resolve the conflict (see Syria several years ago) Iran have just stated that the Strait of Hormuz is open to any ships that aren't American/Israeli or belong to any related country. If an agreement could be reached where the Iranians let their countries' ships pass through the Strait in return for stopping the US/Israelis use any of their countries as a platform to launch attacks from. Shame Starmer caved in to Trump's noise and didn't take a leaf out of the Spaniard's books. 2

The problem is that a lot of our diesel comes from refineries in the Low Countries, which rely on imports from the Middle East. Edited 10 hours ago by badgerx16 1

Approx 20% of the petrol, diesel and jet fuel for use in this country is refined at Fawley. There are now only 4 refineries in the UK whereas there used to be 6. A lot of ships now have to use LNG under UK regulations. The main suppliers are USA and Qatar (problematic!!)
