bangkoksaint Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Whether it’s this thread or on another, TE is just a bull shitter, a SR puppet who’s having his strings pulled 2

None of them are fit enough to play on a full size pitch as proved by the constant use of 5 subs and the massive drop off in performance during the second half of just about every game. No need to single out Oriel when he's not that much different to the rest of the players.

Could well be that he was signed just to appease the fans with no idea of his actual condition. Edited January 11 by hypochondriac
S-Clarke Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I thought he looked a bit leggy in the games I've seen him, struggled to get around the pitch. I didn't think we were ever going to see the PL Romeu, far from it, but I didn't expect him to have regressed this much. It could be fitness I guess, but the game seemed to move 10-20mph faster than he did anymore. I hope it's not a failure and it's about him getting fit, but given that he's only got a 6 month deal and we're now in January and he's nowhere near...I can't see him being given a longer one. He'll probably retire and transition into a coach in the summer. 1

Don't think the timing, framing and PR around the signing have helped him at all. Was always going to be a struggle given he'd presumably had little pre season. 1

Yes agree, they kind of paraded him as our saviour which for an older player who hadn't played a competitive match for at least 6-9 months was unfair on him as expectations shot through the roof. 2

It was completely over the top - the whole on the pitch thing (can't remember which match that was now) and so on, OTT. The framing was off. 1
die Mannyschaft Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Has he officially retired now as not seen him on the pitch? He is rated on EA 26 with 45 Pace.
St Chalet Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Thanks for everything Oriol, it didn't work out on the pitch this season but I am sure your influence and professionalism were a big part in our recovery. Club legend of recent years! 8
Paulwantsapint81 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Has Oriel said what he plans to do next? Sign for someone else? Coach? Non football ventures? Personally think he would be a great ambassador for Saints & mentor for young players 1
Charlie Wayman Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Sad that he only made a few brief appearances after his return But I suspect that or sentimentalty were not the main reasons he was brought in. Since he arrived all of our midfield players, Downes, Bragg, Jander and Charles have been improved out of all recognition from their former selves under Still. Co-incidence? I don't think so, more likely he has been encouraging and coaching those guys in the dark arts of midfield play in the background, quietly, efficiently and without distracting publicity. Like many others I absolutely loved the guy and sad to say farewell ¡Gracias, buena suerte y que tu futuro esté bendecido con felicidad! Edited 2 hours ago by Charlie Wayman 5
Willo of Whiteley Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago It wouldn’t surprise me if he was doing badges at the same time, it’s what a lot of players do towards the end of their careers
