bjk Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 Just seen Sky Sports news and Nigel Pearson on the pitch at Yeovil celebrating another win which puts them further clear at the top and surely a step closer promotion, and surely passing us as we take their place in league 1 Fair play to you Nige you deserve it. Colinjb Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 He is an excellent young manager going about things his way and getting the results for it. Exactly the kind of person we should have retained. No way in hell would Lowe let someone as assertive and focused as him work in his club. Micky Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 I'm pleased for both Nigel and Matt Oakley, fair play to them if they manage promotion this season. Let's be honest - they may have a good squad but you still have to do the business. Both Leeds and Forest struggled to get out - so I wonder how we will do next year. Thedelldays Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 although well done.;.. to be fair, they have by a country mile, the best facilities, the most resources, the strongest squad and the most money in that league.. I would be shocked if they never got auto promotion...

um pahars Posted 19 January, 2009 Share Posted 19 January, 2009 Did someone say with seven players under the age of 22 !! not too sure on this ? Take out Howard and Oakley who are older than me then also Dyer who is over the hill at 26 and their ages were: 23, 21, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 22 "That shyt3 manager Pearson would only work with old warhouses who would have cost us a fortune." "He would never have used the youth" "He would have wanted to have spent loads." "We couldn't afford him". "Just look at the calibre of the side he inherited".:rolleyes:

Saint_clark Posted 20 January, 2009 Share Posted 20 January, 2009 I'd love to play them in the cup next season just to show Pearson how much we appreciate him. I don't think he knew he was very highly rated here.
Shroppie Posted 20 January, 2009 Share Posted 20 January, 2009 Felt very depressed watching the game last night thinking what could have been, what SHOULD have been at SMS this season. With NP we would now be at leaset mid-table, and probably higher, and yes, with the team we have now. Leicester were a determined, fit, committed team. They didn't go round and round in circles playing total pretty football, but it was good football, contructive, varied and positive. When they attacked there were always numbers forward, plyers wide and options. They always looked like scoring. When they needed to defend, they got back in numbers and were solid. And they kept going to the end. No coincidence that they scored twice in the last half hour or so. I remain convinced that the sacking of Nigel to be replaced with a pawn is Lowe's single most disgraceful act, and for that he will never have my respect or support again. Whilst I agree with the majority of your post, the fact remains that Nigel was not sacked. His contract was not renewed, it should have been, but unfortunately we opted to go Dutch instead. You are of course correct, but the end result was effectively the same since, from all reports, NP was hoping to stay and wasn't making unreasonable demands. I would be shocked if they never got auto promotion... That's not how it works though is it? We had all that in our first season in the CCC but twitcher hardly left us in the top spots did he? Sheff Weds, Forest, Man City, Leeds - none of these went up by winning the league and only City went straight back up. And, where as the young players might be quite good, he's not spent much money has he? So it's still a very good job (assuming they do go up)

Sheff Saint Posted 20 January, 2009 Share Posted 20 January, 2009 So are we all now wishing we'd been relegated? Very strange. We've seen many managers do well in league 1 only to get sacked in the Championship. I hope Pearson does a lot better, and maybe he will, but he hasn't proved himself in our league yet. I'm not sure anyone has said they would like us to have been relegated. What they've said is they'd prefer Pearson was still here, not at Leicester. He may well have ****ed up royally this year but he's not really giving any credit to that theory with his performance, albeit a league below. He, almost certainly, wouldn't have done worse than the current setup.

I don't think he knew he was very highly rated here. I spoke to NP at the saints end of season party last summer. I told him how much the fans appreciated his work and that id really like him to stay. He thanked me for my support and said that he'd love to stay here if given the oppurtunity. A very genuine down to earth nice bloke.

Exactly my sentiments too, Shroppie. And it's just ahead of his second most disgraceful act: getting rid of Sturrock (who had a decent record at Saints despite many games with more than half the first team out injured), and replacing him with another incompetent pawn. And we know what happened that year. A leopard doesn't change his spots. And for the Lowe defenders, yes I know neither were technically sackings, but both were Lowe's decisions (and in NP's case cheaper than sacking because NP didn't even get compensation, despite him wanting to stay on). Wes Tender Posted 20 January, 2009 Share Posted 20 January, 2009 I'm starting to view Leicester as my second club after Saints and look for their results because of the respect and liking that I had for Pearson. In many ways they are very similar to us and even having Mandaric as their Chairman is a plus, as I'd far rather have him as our Chairman than Lowelife. chi saint Posted 20 January, 2009 Share Posted 20 January, 2009 Lowe is scared of managers who speak their mind and are assertive. THAT is exactly what his removal (term it how you want) was about, what we the fans and I suspect the players wanted, direction, assertiveness and authority was not what Rupes would want to be dealing with on a daily business. Pearson was a players manager and not something Rupes would have been able to compete with on his limited knowledge of the game. Its all about egos i'm afraid.
