Has Mick Dennis ever written a similar article about any other relegated club ?

I doubt it very much.

I suggest every Saints fan sends an e-mail to their letters page stating that they will boycott all Express Group newspapers unless a fullsome apology is printed PROMINENTLY.

And that Saints fans will encourage evryone in the area they know or meet to boycott their crap papers as well.

**** the arsehole(s) !!!!!!!

You (we) can't even get 10,000 fans to boycott one game, what chance have you got of getting them to boycott the Daily Express.... ???

...actually, on second thoughts, judging by the actions of some on Saturday and in general the quality of posts on here there is probably only a very small percentage of people here who read the Daily Express anyway, getting them to boycott the Daily Star might be a bit harder :-)

He's probably just a bored, fat (probably), fumey (probably), smelly (probably), letchy (probably) old journo trying to get a reaction.

TBF who gives a **** what print rag journos think? Most of them are thick and beligerent and haven't the faintest idea what they're talking about.

A boycott would mean that some people actually make a conscious decision to buy the paper. I don't think anyone actually chooses to read the Daily Express. The only place I've ever seen people read it is in dentist's waiting rooms when all the superior papers, car magazines, computer magazines, women's magazines, Pig Farmers' Gazette and the Morning Star have all been taken by other patients...the Express is like the Emmerdale of newspapers, no-one you've ever met reads/watches it but somehow it keeps going year after year.

Let's just remind ourselves why you're having this hissy fit...

We get a paragraph in there today, basically blaming the fans....

'Southampton fans blame board blunders for their Championship plight. They should have a go at their fair-weather mates. In their last season in the Premier League, Southampton's average attendance was 30,000.

Last season it was down to 21,000, this season 17,000. If they ever get back to the top division and rival fans chant 'Where were you when you were rubbish?' the answer will be. at home, moaning'.

One f::cking paragraph...

I don't buy the Express anyway...but that statement certainly doesn't rile me...

You want to calm yourself down a bit mate...you'll work yourself into an early grave at this rate...

Oh and i've read much more insulting stuff from other journalist about other clubs...they are paid to write controversial stuff...

I've boycotted the Daily Express my whole life and I don't intend to stop now.

As benjii says he's probably yet another fat, never played any sport, London journo who gets off on winding fans up, so best not to bother emailing him.

I've seen some pathetic drama queen over-reactions on Saints forums over the years (some of them eminating from me) but this is utterly ludicrous.

Newspaper columnist points out that club at the bottom of the second tier aren't packing em in like they did when they were top half of the Premier league.

And the pope sh i ts in the woods.

It's a cheap line, rattled off at a moments thought by a filler columnist. It has a grain of truth about the transient nature of football fandom and "loyalty". Mick Dennis will have forgotten he wrote it by now.

1965onwards, get over it, you dopey twonk.

They guy wrote about 3 paragraphs ffs - much of it true to...! It's now chip paper, doubt whether anybody really took very much notice apart from our own fans who now want to start a rebellion.

For those of you that might have missed it, much bigger news items happened on this day - lets move on eh?

What Dennis wrote was incorrect but I can't say I'm overly fussed - no-one buys the Express and it's circulation is falling even faster than our gates. Right-wing readers seem to much prefer the Mail or if they are pushing the boat out, the Telegraph.

No it wasn't - the figures that he quoted were about right actually. But the implication that the state of the club was down to the stay away fans is debatable.

What Dennis wrote was basically true. Never mind the reasons people are staying away there can be no doubt that if we did have 30,000 fans packing the stands each week we wouldn't be in the state we are now. You can't even blame Lowe (for the low attendances) - if the extra fans had turned out while he was gone we wouldn't have been in financial freefall, Crouch's position wouldn't have been undermined and Lowe wouldn't have been able to return.

But by all means boycott the Express - it's a ****e paper.

Mick Dennis is a Norwich fan, they've had a pretty poor season and yet their gates have been good. Personally, I think he's hit the nail on the head.

Norwich don't have a chairman who is, rightly or wrongly, regarded as a hate figure. Norwich haven't embarked on a playing policy that a significant proportion of the usual Saints crowd have absolutely no faith in. Personally, I don't think he could be wider of the mark if he tried.

On Saturday, 31 January 2009, there will be a protest from the park opposite K.F.C in the town centre, down to the ground. The walk down to the ground will start at 13.30pm. We do ask if possible for you to be there at 13.15pm just so we know how many people will be attending. We will then protest outside the ground for about 15-20 minutes before going into the ground. We also ask that if you have yet to get a ticket that you purchase one for the Northam or the Itchen and not the Chapel or the Kingsland. Banners/ sings are welcome if you can get them into the ground. I know you will have other questions and I will try to answer them. Please leave a comment below or add me at simon_hampshire@hotmail.com and I will talk to you there.

1. I will try and get some of this read out on BBC and Meridian so more people will know about it.

2. Who are we? We are several angry and fed up Southampton fans. I just happen to be the one writing this.

WE ALSO ASK YOU FOR 3 THINGS!!!

1. NO VIOLENCE!!

2. A LETTER ADDRESSED TO MR LOWE THAT YOU WILL THROW ON THE PITCH AT THE END. INSIDE THE LETTER WRITE WHY YOU ARE PROTESTING. ( YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO THIS)

3. IF YOU DON’T WANT LOWE OUT DON’T COME ON THIS PROTEST!!

PLEASE TELL FELLOW SAINTS FANS!!

When you compare us to Norwich, you have to ask who deserves to stay up more? Norwich have been served up more shiete then ourselves and are still supporting their team in good numbers. We had record low crowds last season with the average only being bumped up by the freebies and kids. Our fan base is disappearing fast but there is extenuating circumstances because of the demography, magnified by the economy and quality of football. It does not look good and combined with the failure to sell players, will mean our goose is cooked.

That was a one-off in a once a season competition, where a significant proportion of the crowd have come to see the opposition. Many may have even been ManU supporters from the Hampshire catchment area [and don't get started on home grown football fans who feel they have to support some side a couple of hundred miles away which they have absolutely no connection with]. It's not even remotely representative of Saints supporters [hard core or occasional] overall feelings to the club.
