Here is a lovely chant for all of our super violent marchers today. Obviously to the tune of Sloop John B. Rulez is rulez.

We're going to fight Wilde.

We're going to sink Lowe.

We are Southampton.

And we're ready to go.

I have completely changed lots of family arrangements in order to free up the time to participate in the march today.

I march not to rid the club of Lowe or Wilde or even to install Crouch.

I march to show I care about my club. I march because it gives me a chance to demonstrate just how badly this club has been run since it became a PLC. I want to show the citizens of Southampton that there are people who still have pride in their football team. I march for all the fans who can't make it because they are dispersed all over the world. I march for all those fans no longer with us who have supported the team loyally ever since 1885. I march out of respect to the great servants of our club - people like Ted Bates, Alan Ball, Peter Osgood, Bobby Stokes, Derek Reeves, John McGrath, Charlie Wayman, Steve Mills, Austin Hayes and many many more.

Come and join in what will be a dignified, peaceful statement. I gather Mary Corbett will be there. I am sure her father would have been proud and totally agreed with the stand we are making.

Rgds Duncan

Thank you Duncan and I am humbled by your offer to march for me and all the overseas fans who can't be there today.

If I were back home both my son Scott and I would not only be in the march we would be at the front of it and in loud voice in our damnation of the utter pillocks that have ruined, for their own worthless sake, what was once a wonderful family club and local icon that I had so much pride in supporting.

The whole community once treated Saints like a part of the family and I still remember my old boss's elderly Scottish wife telling me how she had been shopping on the saturday "and I heard the roar from the Dell and knew the Saints had scored a goal, och aye they musta won agin".

Yes it was a community club once and the fans must take it back again so that the city of Southampton and Saints wider family can again feel the pride in a much loved club that has meant so much to so many. Lowe and Wilde must NOT be allowed to kill off our club for good, it means too much to us for that.

Lovely post Duncan, I am old enough to appreciate the comments made and the legends you mention and thank you again for marching as my proxy.

Kind Regards

Why are people calling The Bargate a castle? It is not (and never has been) a castle. I find it ironic that some of the very people who are bemoaning the fact that others should understand and 'fight' to protect the history of Southampton's football club, are themselves a bit thick and ignorant when it comes to the history of our great city. They should not be directing strangers to the gateway to Southampton's old town by calling it a 'castle'.

I also hope, for the safety of the marchers, that there is not a mob of Swansea en route to the stadium who, on seeing a few hundred Saints fans chanting on a march through the city, think that it's our 'firm' calling it on ;-)

Will the police 'escort' the Swansea fans away from the march, does anyone know?

Not that you'd know anything about that sort of behaviour - eh Ess!

A very well thought out post and a sign of a true supporter. Good on you.

Sadly, I will not be in attendance. Whilst I'd like to go and agree with everything it stands for, I don't think exposing my toddler's ears to protest chants is conducive for his development. I will certainly be there in spirit and following events closely through the media and friends in attendance (awaiting the mms and text messages!)

Must admit, I wet myself laughing at the pathetic hogwash and desperate attempts of the dying beast (Sundance/Nineteen Canteen...Domkop [or whatever he calls himself this week!?]) to undermine this rally by the fans. Despite Lowe's pathetic PR & arrogant obsession with manipulating public opinion (it fails, another lesson not learnt!), fans will turn out and there will be unity (even if we fail to find that inside St Mary's thanks to Lowe's myriad of mistakes & reoccuring abysmal management)

Let's hope it goes well, lots turn up and make themselves heard. We need change but I fear it is too late due to Lowe's sheer stupidity and vindictive disregard to the fans. Appointing Wotte showed the level of that arrogant disregard to the fans and football. We want Lowe and Wilde out - questionably the most terrible chairman to ever disgrace the steps of Southampton Football Club.

COYS. Supporting Southampton FC may be painful and frustrating but we have no choice but to support and love our club (even if many no longer go to St Mary's as a direct result of Lowe and Wilde returning). We will not let our club die, not without fighting for what we believe is right.

Oh when the Saints go marching on...

Now this may a cliche but I think given the air of animosity against the club this demonstration will generate I thought it was appropriate. (Also given the estimates are for 500 to attend that is still significantly less than 5% of our fans base - the Lib dems have more weight)

Anyway some words of encouragement to Wotte and the boys:

If you can keep your head when all about you,

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too,

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don't deal in lies

Or being hated, don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, not talk to wise,If you can dream and make dreams your master,

And if you think and not make thoughts your aim

If you can meet with triumph and disaster

And treat those two imposters just the same..............

There is a few words to the wise for Crouch and the demonstrators but obviously too late for you to reconsider your proposed actions. Surely one of the main traits of a fan is to be able to ride with the good as well as the bad times but some can't treat those two imposters just the same and perhaps therefore you'll never have the Earth and everything in it or be a man my son!

Time for a bed tomorrow is going to be a long day but win or lose one thing is for certain there will be no giving in to a portest of less than 5 or even 10% of the fanbase.

I do not normally lower myself to bad language but in this instance it would be quite easy....you are a total numpty with no soul and no love for our team.

we desrve a better supporter than yourself without doubt

Totally uncalled for. We all love Saints. We each express it in our own way. It's another opinion - just like yours - and should be respected - just like yours. Personal insults are actually what we can do without.

It was the north gate to the city walls which contained a castle though.

Does that please you ?

I dont get you sometimes, TDD. I often get accused of being negative for the sake of it, but sometimes I think that epithet belongs better round your shoulders.

does not bother me either way...dont mind people protest but can also see why people think it is a waste of time with lowe..

I was just saying that 200 is not fantastic...

600 hardy souls who sacrificed the pub is a good turnout.

I found Illingwsorth's plug on TUI, of the Trust Bar as a pre-match venue for today, a complete f**king disgrace, but about par-for-the-course for that luvvie.

He, like the Trust has been completely absent and silent - AGAIN. And he wonders why the Trust is laughed at.

I too found this staggering, something as important as the proposed events today and nothing but a plug..........butt plug would be more appropriate for him and his sterile trust.

Spoke to someone at ground and guess with all add on enroute and at stadium about 1,000

Just got home - can't make the game as I'll be elsewhere, but got to the demo. I'd say that 1,000 is on the low side as an estimate; when I got to the top of Kingsway the front of the march was way down Northam Road, while the back-markers had just left Hoglands Park.

If anything, the numbers outside SMS were lower, as many people went off at that point, presumably to take their seats, meet friends or whatever. All in all, an excellent turnout - plenty of cameras there so there'll be TV coverage too.

Sounds a great turnout. Lets hope that ALL those 1000 or so congregate outside stadium after the game, regardless of the result today. As much noise outside the stadium will get the message across and cannot go unnoticed

Well done to everyone who made the effort.

Proud to be a Saints fan :)

David Pleat is a guest at the Stadium...Either in support of the demonstration..A guest on a freebie or our new Dutch Director of Football...Mind the girls, ten bob all night in..

Without doubt Pleat is the proved English manager that Leon Crouch has lined up. Another ex Skate/ North London Youbbo to ensure we will get relegated. Of course Pleat comes with Hoddle's approval (....I don't think!!)
