It is very hard to have a reasoned debate with you - great conclusion though

Why? Correct me if I am wrong, but Sir Ralph is only interested in the number of racist hate cases that end in convictions. So if 100 cases go to court and 80 end up with a conviction, that is the level of racism as far as he is concerned. There may be another 1000 cases where people have said that they have been racially abused but, for one reason or another, they haven’t made it to court. Is it unreasonable to take into account the “anecdotal” feedback on racism when looking at what is happening at ground level? Why just dismiss people’s experiences as “guff?”

It is generally accepted that the amount of sexual assaults on women is much higher than the recorded figure because many don’t report it to the police. It is the same with race hate cases.

In both events the cases that end in convictions are just the tip of the iceberg.

I don’t expect Sir Ralph, or nic for that matter, to understand this point. You on the other hand, shouldn’t find it too hard to comprehend.

Why is my anecdotal evidence of my mixed race wife receiving almost no racial abuse despite living in this country her entire life less valid than your anecdotal evidence?

Yours can't count because a) it's you and not him b) your example isn't being used to support a headline in the Guardian, without understanding the context and, importantly, c) your personal anecdotes are real ones. The closest SOG has personally come to a racial incident is the one he faked on here, when there were national incidents, and then blamed his wife.
