The odds are always stacked in favour of the penalty taker but he seemed a bit slow to get down to it. Perhaps harsh. No denying his late save though, important stop. Hope he builds on it. Not convinced despite yesterday’s performance. He’s no Hannah Hampton ! As LD said above, for the penalty he was bouncing up and down which meant he wasn't set to dive as the penalty was struck. 1 1
Midfield_General Posted August 10 Posted August 10 (edited) I think full-time yesterday was the first time I'ver seen Baz smile. He usually seems very serious and loves a scowl. Absolutely delighted for the young custodian. Edited August 10 by Midfield_General 6

The club didn’t help him by chucking him in so young, not helped I suspect by RH having fallen out with McCarthy after the Brighton game and not giving GB a rest when the heat came on. Add in the instability of 22/23, Martinball in 23/24 (we’ve seen how many shots League 2 SPL players are taking at goal vs a wide open Rangers) and a mixed spell at Liege. Confidence can’t have been high. So if Still has brought a good keeping coaching in and lifted confidence and instilled some basic technique to complete the City academy education, then we can hope for continued growth and development. He will still make mistakes - all keepers do - but it’s the basics I’m watching. And if those go on an upwards curve I think more fans will overlook the mistakes a bit more. 1

At those speeds with those fine margins, that half a second it takes to adjust and dive is massive. This isn't a Bazunu thing, I've always said keepers shouldn't jump up and down when facing a penalty. Edited August 10 by Saint_clark 2 2

It wasn’t a great penalty, not even close to the corner but he didn’t get anywhere near it

If you say so 😂 Baz’s right foot clearly planted and pushed off from at the point of the ball being struck, note picture doesn’t show Windass with his right foot at the top of his back swing.

You can’t post a still picture just as his feet landed and claim it was clearly planted and he’d “pushed off” from it. Watch the moving pictures, he lands just before the lad struck the ball. Contrast this with Dean Henderson fa cup save, where he isn’t so flat when the balls struck. It goes in pretty much the same distance from the post, yet Henderson pushes out further and one leg is further behind the other. If I have the choice between a former pro, who is now coaching professionally, or you, I’ll go with the first. As I said, he has no agenda, he actually thinks Baz is decent. It’s just a little point he picked up on (as I’m sure our coaching staff will have as well). 4

No one's perfect, and that includes those passing it back. But he remains super cool at it, and better than many other 'keepers I see. I'm generally already looking to see where he's going to put it, rather than any concerns about it going wrong. 4
goodymatt Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Let’s see if he can continue this recent form from preseason and the Wrexham game, too small a sample size atm. Would be great for us if it just clicked, might need to extend his contract if it does. Early days for now though, I’m still not convinced he’s the answer mid-long term. 5
Barsiem Posted Sunday at 14:08 Posted Sunday at 14:08 Impressive performance again today I thought. No big saves to make but those he did make were with a minimum of fuss and he commanded his box well. I'm really hoping he's turned a corner, albeit still early days 7

Not the biggest of sample sizes there, but worth a shout out for him. On the other hand, I thought he was less scowly today. Scowling is a massive part of his game, and I'd hate to think of him slacking off here. 2

It's not just high balls in terms of commanding the box, but he claimed everything he could today, and even held onto the ball in one instance after blatantly being pushed to the floor in the first half. He was also alert and well positioned to save Jack Stephens after his bad backpass header in the second half. 2
Saint_clark Posted Sunday at 15:18 Posted Sunday at 15:18 Been impressed with him so far but it is worth noting that he's faced three shots on target so far and conceded two. Be interested to see how he does when a team gets 4, 5, 6 or more shots on target. 1

That can't be true as he saved against Hirst today, and obviously at least one last week, though I believe there were more from Wrexham that were straight down his throat. Now I've used up all my daily posts on Bazunu.... 2

He was doing the right thing covering where a shot might have come from had it reached the attacker. Nothing he could do about the bounce off THB's chest. 2

The reason he was so terrible for us previously was because he let in shots that you'd be expecting him to save. So far he's only faced 3 shots, one was a penalty, one a great save one on one v Wrexham and another a regular save v Ipswich. Until he's faced more shots we won't know if he's actually improved his shot stopping or if the sample size is just too small. Don't pretend you don't understand how stats and sample sizes work now, you fucking love them. 2

I have to ask what you think the point of football is in that case? Danny Blanchflower described it best for me, “The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It’s nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It is about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.” Or Grantland Rice, "For when the One Great Scorer comes to mark against your name, He writes—not that you won or lost— but how you played the game." There can only be one winner in any league but there can be bright, shining moments along the course of a season. A moment of individual brilliance perhaps. Or a scintillating team movement. Things that get you up off your seat. Trying to break the game down into a series of numbers is like tearing it apart because you're trying to find the magic. 3

Paul_B Posted Monday at 10:32 Posted Monday at 10:32 Back to Bazunu....... got to give credit where it's due. He's giving off a more confident and positive vibe and his performances have been good. Really hoping he is turning a corner and can overcome the adversity of the last few years. 7
OldNick Posted Monday at 10:46 Posted Monday at 10:46 I ownder if the new goalkeeping coach has been instramental is giving him an extra confidence/swagger again. It is important that he does become a top keeper. Obviously a keeper is always one mistake away from being seen as the worst in a clubs history lol 1
St. Ciervo Posted Monday at 14:43 Posted Monday at 14:43 He really does seem a different player. He ripped into his defenders at one point last week. Previously he would just quietly scowl and brood moodily between the posts. Getting time out of the spotlight did him some good. Something our managers should have seen and given far before the injury. 1
