Angus Gunn was our league goalkeeper, Alex McCarthy was our cup goalkeeper. So, fortunately we went to Fratton Park with McCarthy. They went all out at the start of the match too and McCarthy had to make a few smart saves, which I wouldn't have banked on Gunn saving. Just over a month later, after the Leicester match McCarthy took Gunn's place in the league team. Edited 16 hours ago by HarvSFC 2
Pwoite Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Incredible some posters on here. Yesterday was the second worst keeper in the history of the world, beaten only by Long. Tonight he’s the best we have. Amazing! 1 2

Being the 'best' of three pretty shit keepers isn't the glowing endorsement you're making it out to be. 2

The point still stands that on Monday people were calling for him to either be our number 3 or have his contract paid up. A day later, and it's give him the gloves.

That would be a day after we signed a Norwich reject on loan signalling to all and sundry that there's no way we are looking to bring in anyone better, so we may as well choose the 'best' of our three shit keepers. 1

Midfield_General Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) People are getting way too carried away with one solid but unspectacular performance against Norwich reserves. He made two good but not exceptional saves (the one low down to his left and the one that came through the crowd), and two basic routine saves (the one up to his right and the one that would have been an OG). He also played us into trouble three times by getting caught with the ball at his feet or passing out into trouble. Fortunately Norwich weren’t good enough to capitalise on it when he did. Then there was a low one in the second half which beat him but went wide. He might have had it covered but possibly not. See MaccaWatch (tm) in the match thread. It was a perfectly decent one-off performance for a championship level keeper but it really wasn’t anything special. Most pro keepers would expect to make those saves more often than not. We all know his weaknesses because he’s had the same ones since he joined us 8 years ago. I’m glad he did ok last night but unfortunately he’s too unreliable for a run of games and always will be. With all that said, I’d still play him against the Skates as they will single Baz out for dogs abuse as a former player, and he’s played in bigger games before so will probably handle the atmosphere better and be a calmer presence. He also did well last time we went down there. For that particular game, he is probably lower risk. Edited 5 hours ago by Midfield_General 1
HKsaint Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago If not his performance in the playoff, we were still in championship! Oh ..
