Seriously wonder why Azaz would leave Middlesbrough for us, similar to Rudoni.

Agree Spersyan is a pipe dream although has probably been out of the quest for a couple of weeks (or months).

Guilsvogui , like Scienza just seem more of the same. Non-entities with no track record, next summer’s deadwood.

I don't see it happening really, I have a very bad feeling about the conclusion of this window.

Cheap though, an essential criteria for SR incomings. They should try League 1, they’d love the prices there and rebuilding your squad every season.

Whereas the fans find it hugely monotonous and can’t identify with any of the players.

Premier League - typical cost of player £20m+ - SR spend less than £10m

Championship - typical cost per player for aspiring top 6 sides £5-15m and they want to pay £3-5m.

Anyone criticising this squad is utterly wrong, as many of the forum said this was a squad good enough for top positions  😂😂😂  They were good enough 2 years ago after all.  I was good in bed 2 years ago, now I can't even get it up; things get worse as you get older 😂 literally, not idiomatically.

Where I would agree with people like @Farmer Saint is that it was a team built for the Championship.

Spors, you have much to do old bean.

Nothing we can do about what's happened in this window so far. It's getting a bit late to be hanging around waiting for players. Hard cash down this week and we have to bring these players in with no messing about.

Agree, and any extra received for Dibling and Fernandes will get eaten up fast. But their objectives at SR seem to be all about the fees brought in and not around the health and performance of the football club. Strange way to run an organisation.

Appreciate the performances have not been good enough so far this season and today’s result, especially against 10 men adds to that concern. However, Still and Spors are working with a lot of uncertainty around our players and potential incomings. The squad is bloated and full of players that aren’t sure if they want to be here.

We all know the final week of the window is where the majority of moves happen, for clubs of our size especially. Questioning Spors or Still before the final week of the window seems premature. Last champ season the final week saw us add players like THB and Downes, 2 of the best in the division that season. To suggest Spors isn’t up to the task for not bringing players in earlier is naive to our situation. We do not have full control of the market and this is just the reality of the transfer window.

Azaz seems like one we can do if we pay £12m, player is interested and they reportedly would accept that fee. Boro winning some games early on doesn’t change the most likely outcome that they will be below us this season, it is not hard to see why Azaz would be interested (higher wages, higher chance of promotion).

I’m going to judge our squad competitiveness on September 2nd and I’m sure having a settled group will help Still in general too. I’m as frustrated as anyone tonight but I’m going to wait and see how the window pans out before declaring we aren’t promotion challengers.

We played the loan market quite well during the last Championship season. Think we need to do so again this season.

And then spent an inordinate amount resigning a championship standard team ready for the premier league.

I was feeling a bit deflated after today’s result. Still find it difficult to comprehend how we didn’t get a positive result, we did more than enough. All the trendy people say stats are important and xG tells you a lot and that suggests we should have won 2-1. Football is made up of moments. Stoke took their chances today we had Lady Luck against us, along with poor finishing, but it happens.

All of a sudden the world is falling apart because we lost a game of football.

i just hope the Samaritans are adding extra resource in Southampton this week as there appear to be a good number of people on this forum who are teetering.

It has brightened my evening reading it all though, so thank you all.

Poor results concern fans, but judging Still and Spors is premature with a bloated squad and transfer uncertainties. Key signings, like Azza (£12m), often happen late. Wait until September 2nd to assess promotion potential.

How many in then do you reckon?  My guess is five:

GK

Winger on loan

Fernandes replacement

DM

Another wide man

3 is my guess. 4 if we get lucky.

Winger, 10 and a GK.

Maybe another bonus winger if we get lucky.

I'd be pretty disappointed with that. We'd be lacking in the wide areas.

Transfer Deadline days are made for us to be disappointed, so I'm fully prepped.

Yes, 100%. We needed new signings who were better than what was already there in a very large squad and they haven’t been. The right back is much more the type of signing needed, eg ready to come in. The two cheap projects from Germany are not what was required. You can tell Still is getting frustrated too.

Fair enough. This feels like hyperbole to me. I think it’s far too soon to be writing off Spors, Quarshie or Downs. If you believe the press we are in for Azzaz and/or Rudoni who are top level championship players with proven pedigree. Spertysan has been linked with big clubs and seems to have a lot about him. The squad needs surgery and I don’t know how realistic it is to expect everything to be sorted after one window for Spors/Still.

It's not though is it. They could go on and be productive but they aren't good enough right now which is what is costing us points.

We are THREE games in. Downs has started zero of them and Quarshie has started two (the two which we didn't lose)

I think you're right that it'll be three permanents: GK, Winger, 10. But I am pretty sure we will use the loan market. There's no reason not to just take a punt on another wide player, given that a few will eventually get told by their PL club they can go out in the final week of the window

I'm fully aware thanks. What we needed were players ready to start and improve the team immediately. Like last time when we signed THB and Downes.

They were signed around now though, THB was an out of the blue deadline day signing. The best additions will come between now and next Monday, these will be the players which make or break the season.

We started with a much higher base last season with Tella contributing, and Adams in the squad etc - but not so lucky this year.

I think we bring in: GK, 10, 2x wide players and if a loan comes up for a game changing ST, we might take it and shift one of ours on loan.

This final week is where most loans happen and we still have 5 to use. Despite Dragan’s anti-loan comments I’m sure we will use some of those wisely.

Downes signed 21st August and THB on 1st September. Not like we signed them in early July is it? I understand the frustration at the business we have (or haven't) done, but these hysterics after one loss are ridiculous.

Let's all have a meltdown on the 2nd of September if Spors has ballsed up the window.

Quarshie I can understand considering how many cbs we have it's fine to bring a player in with potential. Up front to just sign a player with potential like downs is madness if we get no one else in. It's a huge gamble from Still to think that with better service one of our strikers will be able to score regularly when they aren't showing any signs so far.

It’s got nothing to do with the other two. You specifically said that having those three strikers - Armstrong, Archer and BBD - was good enough to get us promoted because they’d all scored goals at this level before.

Are you sticking with that? It’s fine to admit you were wrong.

Only one of those three is best as a central striker, he left out two that are.

When we signed them I thought they were more typical SR signings (like the City kids) where the new scouting team picked up som "cheap" gems they knew well, who might come good. That is why Solak had OK'ed them before any outgoings. Just an investment...

I didn't think they were starters (or so I hoped), and we will get the players Spores will be judged on later in the window.

I still hope me from back then was right all along, and not some naive idiot...

Still will insist on two wide players who are first XI slot-ins, 10 definitely, GK but not sure what career stage. That’s four and as others have identified we urgently need another CM as Downes and Charles are either/or. Especially if as expected Fernandes goes.

Do we think this guy will be one of the wingers we sign? Apparently still monitoring him.

Not if Gladbach or Koln go anywhere near him. He looks a handful and tricky, though, although his career path is a bit unusual and he's risen rapidly

What hysterics? If we don't sign a striker then our one striker signing this summer was the wrong one. It doesn't matter at what point of the window he signed.

I agree that's how it should be. I'm not sure who we are relying on for goals though if that is the case.

Just imagine the commentary. Not the player you want in a local derby.

Maybe they were told by an inhouse MLG in the stats department, that goals from our forward line would not be a problem this season...

I hope they are seeing what's missing so far...
