madge Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Support this decision but now let’s hope the club fully back him with the players he needs to play his style.. for once the club have at least done something positive by sorting the deal early. 3
Paulwantsapint81 Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Welcome Will i am optimistic that you are going to be the right man at the right time let’s hope you have the ability to listen to brotherly advice of Koeman, the humility of Merrington, the passion of Ball & the press conferences of WGS 2

I hope we don't focus on players for set styles, let's just buy 'good players' with some physicality about them. Put them together on the pitch in their natural positions and things will happen. I'm bored with signing project players tbh. 9

He may turn out to be brilliant but it is a gamble. 😂😂😂 definitely reasons not to employ a very good manager that 😂😂 in that case we’d never employ a large percentage of managers

Tend to agree, however I also think that by rejecting the old ways we’ll hopefully naturally get recruitment right again. I think SR thought the benefit of the possession football was that you don’t necessarily need highly skilled, fast or physically dominating players, particularly in the Championship - just ones that can pass accurately and these can be found relatively cheaply. So yes, Saints have focussed on building a squad for a possession based system but largely with ‘bargain basement’ limited quality players (yes MLG, I know we’ve had our pants pulled down forking out stupid amounts for Sulemana etc.). Going forwards it’s absolutely true - to exorcise the old system and build for the future, we need to bring in all round better quality players.
miserableoldgit Posted May 24 Posted May 24 (edited) How much experience of the Championship did Régis Le Bris have as a player or manager before today? Edited May 24 by miserableoldgit

Expecting award winning French restaurants to have coaching badges is asking a lot. Oh wait... the Sunderland manager? Right. I knew that. Like Will, hits my criteria of managing in a top 5 league. Like Will, he's also done it for more than one season. The first ended up with an improved position. The second got them relegated. However, the Strachan clause is then activated, at least to see the circumstances. 1
Turkish Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Interesting to read back the early pages of this thread only @Maggie May mentioned him. He wasn’t on any betting list and his name only seemed to pop up a couple of weeks ago regularly. By amazing coincidence I took a business trip to Brussels at the same time. Check the CoT thread 4

Welcome to the forum btw #whiffofglasgow The post you've quoted was more of an opinion of why we chose Still over Rohl - I believe that the compensation required for Rohl (amount and complexity) was a factor. I quoted the other post because that's when I found out we had offered the job to Still. Thanks for the welcome! Hopefully I can add more snippets of information when I get it 😉 5

Check the CoT thread I think every single name at the start was English-based. Still, was in his first season at Lens and doing a good job with no budget. I don't think he felt like a name who could be available / interested, even if Spores was considering him.
Willo of Whiteley Posted May 25 Posted May 25 There are some on here that are probably still not over Danny Rohl not coming - if he didn’t want to come or was waiting for a better offer, then he was never the man of us. Simple as. Move on. 😂😂
Miltonaggro Posted May 25 Posted May 25 To answer the original question posed, I want William Still, the 32 year old Belgian manager who has significant experience of the fifth best league in Europe (verified). Setting my hopes on an official announcement very soon - get it done Johannes. Bosh!

We have been a tad light on genuine ITKers over the last few years so any genuine insights are of course welcome 👍 P.s. if you can let us know which prolific striker we're going to sign before we do so then your place in the Saintsweb ITK hall of fame is all but guaranteed 2

This appointment is too important to get wrong. Then read this article. Explains the utter shit show that Will Still has successfully managed since the January transfer window - selling both first choice CBs and goalkeeper/captain. I'm firmly onboard the Will Still train now. 18 hours ago, goodymatt said: Edited May 25 by Patches O Houlihan 1

You will find I posted the tweet first so people could see the source of what he was saying because he didn't, he then edited his post to include it. I was being helpful, something you are not. Genuinely never seen an adult so rattled that they didn’t post a link first 4
